Discussion XY9 Garchomp Partners

In all honesty, Garchomp works best with itself. Basically, you use Garchomp to KO EXs and survive with Focus Sash. If you are about to get knocked out, then you retreat for free, Max Potion, and use another Garchomp to put energies back on or take knock outs. For this version, you don't use Maxie's, but you use Rare Candies so you can get multiple Garchomps out in one turn.
Also, Hawlucha makes great use of Strong Energy, and recycling it is great.
Garchomp could work with Night March because they rely on special energy, however, Time Puzzle exists so I don't think it's necessary.
I'll post more if I think of more.

One of the main issues I've had with playing with Night March decks is that playing against Item Lock decks is an absolute nightmare, especially when the locker is Trevenant (thank you PTCGO special). It's forced me to tech in Zoroark and trim down my Garchomp line to 3-1-3. You got Korrina, so you have a lot of freedom to add in techs like Zoroark.

I went 2-3 with a pure garchomp list at a cities today. It was a list designed to just stream garchomps as quickly and efficiently as possible. I wish I had put a couple of max potion in tbh. Beat wailord & gardevoir. Lost to quad mega manectric, darkrai (he only played the yvetels and shaymin down) and nightmarch. Best of 1 format, so unforgiving to prized gibles. Have to say it was a fun deck to play, I don't think I tested my list enough but Garchomp definitely has potential to be tier 1. I'm just not sure what list will take it there.

I played 4-2-4 with 3 shaymin 1 hawlucha, 1 jirachi and 1 lucario ex.

After a lot of testing I've found Lucario-EX to be a fantastic partner for Garchomp because of how well they work together. The main advantage of using Lucario-EX is corkscrew smash. Corkscrew Smash lets you draw until you have 6 cards in your hand. Because of this, you can often get the rare candy/garchomp combo or find a Korrina almost every time. I think its fantastic draw support as well as a backup attacker. Garchomp's Turbo Assault can build up a Lucario-EX on the bench as a good revenge killer. Overall, Lucario-EX is a fantastic partner for Garchomp.

I have been playing for quite some time now, and I play in person just about every day and online every night. I really like the new Garchomp from breakpoint and want to main the deck at League events. The only problem is that rayquaza is popular in my area and chomp usually falls short by a bit in securing the OHKO. I was thinking riachu or manectric ex as a partner but im not sure and looking for some ideas/pointers.

As mentioned earlier, I've also found Lucario EX to be a great partner with my Garchomp (I run a 4-2-4 line).

Dedenne (FFI) can help in this match-up, as well as against Yveltal decks too.

Not to mention Dedenne is a colorless and cheap attacker, but it still allows you to keep the positive prize trade.(usually)

I think y'all are undervaluing Hawlucha as a good partner for Garchomp. My list is in the deck garage, but I play 4 hawlucha, 4 garchomp, 2 Lucario EX, 2-2 Garbodor and 1 Shaymin EX. This lineup is a Maxie's variant, that I have been working on for a while now. It is very consistent and always has a garchomp by T2, and subsequent Garchomps each turn after that 75% of the time, even if I am Fighting a Item Lock deck. Lucario EX is an absolutely wonderful partner too! The hand refresh is great, and its quick to get set up. Lucario is definitely the preferred starter, but Hawlucha works just as well, at least against any EX decks.

I also run Hawlucha (just 2) in my deck, as well. A Focus Band'd Hawlucha is a real menace to opponents' EX Pokémon.

There's been a new trend that every good stage two or restored stage one *cough cough* Archeops and Gallade have been paired with Yveltal EX for some reason. The deck usually uses Maxies to get the Pokemon out. Garchomp is great in Yveltal because it does big damage on it's second attack, and it can accelerate DCE to a benched Yveltal. But, Gallade does take only a DCE so Garchomp be harder to set up since it only takes fighting energies, but it will probably work because people have been playing Yveltal/Regirock recently.
My second idea has been with Maxies/Miltank/Hawlucha. This is a deck that used Gallade, but I like Garchomp better. Garchomp does more damage and can accelerate Strong Energy to itself or Hawlucha or a basic Fighting to Miltank. You use Hawlucha to attack while setting up Garchomps and when you have Garchomps, you want to use it's second attack to take KOs and Miltank if you only have one energy. This deck could work with Rare Candy, but Maxies is better.

that paring is because the fighting types hit electric types but Yvetal will not cover the problems garchomp has.

Dude, Garchomp's attacks cost Fighting Energy, not Colorless. I think Groudon or something similar might be the better option…oh, wait…Garchomp with Maxie's in Night March, run Fighting as your basic energies, and use Garchomp to recover DCE's from the discard pile, and you could use Mew EX as another option! OH MY GOD! Night March FINALLY gets the energy recycling it's been looking for! Plus, Garchomp has no retreat, so you might be able to cut Float Stone!

thats why the chomp is accelerating to the yevtal not itself.

I was thinking a korrina rare candy deck. They don't have the most videos, however it seems to work similarly to the gallade ralts octillery deck. The reason I think garchomp is better though, is because garchomp can abuse focus sash as a gible, unlike ralts
i run the rare candy variant and its really fast and consistent.

Biggest problem you're going to run into is the fact that those rare candies are going to be dead cards against Three Huge Meta decks. Unless you are running garbites as well, you will have issues. My META is FULL of item lock though, so your success can and will likely be different depending on how your local area plays.

Thats why you run the gabites and frankly one chomp can break item lock

Forgot to mention that I've been running Garbodor too with Garchomp (deck 3... lol); results have been quite good.
