RBY Your RBY Team

Current Team!

Ella (Nidoqueen) Level 24
Zena (Wartortle) Level 22
Caledori (Clefairy) Level 23
James (Weepinbel) Level 22

I'm about to challenge Lt. Surge. It took me a bit of remembering not to mash A, so James doesn't have Vine Whip >_>. Caledori nearly lost Mega Punch, but I was paying attention so I reset it. No such luck for James, though. :<

Overall, I'm getting mixed results from my team. Caledori's Mega Punch destroys everything, and Ella's Body Slam can usually 2-shot things, but James and Zena are falling behind a bit. Maybe Surf will save Zena, who knows?

I started playing Red on Monday and my team is very basic:

Wartortle: LV 16
Pikachu: LV 16
(Planned) Vileplume
(Planned) Gengar
(Planned)Arcanine
Last spot not sure of yet

Right now im in mount moon.

So the Mew glitch helped me to get the Red exclusive Electabuzz. Just got the Earthbadge! Current team:
Tarr the Raticate
Spearmint the Fearow
Rip the Electabuzz
Beru the Magmar
Anomaly the Mew
Phillip the Lapras

All level 42! So good to see myself underleveled for once in a Pokemon game.
Man, I love the level jump between Erika and Koga. It marks a clear midpoint between "early" and "mid" game bosses. Also love how you can defeat Team Rocket at Silph before taking on Koga.

Well that's Yellow done now. Played through on a 2DS. The screen seems tiny compared to what I'm used to, but it's a comfortable handheld to use.

The team I used was ones I've never used before, plus starter. Here is how is sits right after the Elite 4:

Hypno (Lv.49)
Golem (Lv.48)
Victreebel (Lv.47)
Fearow (Lv.47)
Kingler (Lv.47)
Pikachu (Lv.46)

First four were fantastic. I love Victreebel now!

Kingler was a bit weak, as was Pikachu, but as a team the 6 were able to pull through.

I chose Pokemon Red. Mainly because I wanted Raichu. which you can't have on Yellow, and the fact that my first game was Pokemon Blue so I wanted to choose something else.

My current team:

Chaos, the Charmeleon
Undertaker, the Dugtrio
Venom, the Vileplume
Devil, the Raichu.
Psycho, the Kadabra.

The team is pretty amazing and I find it very strong against everything. I still need a Pokemon that can use Surf. I don't have a Pokemon to use Fly but I think that I can handle without it. I need to check what Pokemon can learn Surf and are not Water types.

1/3 of our team is the same! If you really don't want a Water-type surfer, the Nidos are your best options. If you're put off by having two Ground-types, though, you could go for Tauros. It's a super huge pain to catch, but it has 70 Special (compared to the Nidos' 75) along with that Spe and Atk. It'd probably be a good fit.

My team is:

Vileplume (lv32) – Sleep Powder, Swords Dance, Acid, Mega Drain
Jigglypuff (lv 33) – Disable, Counter, Body Slam, Strength
Pidgeotto (lv 33) – Sand-Attack, Toxic, Fly, Double-Edge
Raichu (lv 36) – Thunderbolt, Thunder Wave, Flash, Quick Attack
Blastoise (lv 36) – Surf, Ice Beam, Dig, Water Gun (placeholder until Hydro Pump comes!)
Butterfree (lv 38) – Sleep Powder, Stun Spore, Psychic, Psybeam

Since I for some reason decided to do a run with a full team, I knew I'd have to have some serious hax going on to get through the E4 without having to grind forever, hence the insane number of status-inducing and accuracy-lowering moves.

I'm keeping Jigglypuff as it is instead of evolving it because it's my favorite Pokemon--I'm treating it like I'm Ash and it's Pikachu, essentially. I've been shoving every HP Up I find down its throat, so the Counter comes in handy and can usually take out annoying Hyper Fang Raticate and other fast mons that have no business hitting as hard as they do.

Vileplume is pretty useless at this point. I keep picturing the rest of the game, and I don't really see a place where Vileplume will be too useful. I just don't want to give up on it yet since it was one of the main reasons I got Red. Maybe I'll use it to take out the Onix in the E4 or something to make it feel needed haha.

Currently I'm trying to catch a Chansey so that I can teach it Tri Attack and annoy everyone in SM with a Serene Grace Tri Attack Blissey. Unfortunately, I haven't even been able to hit it with a ball in the Safari Zone after about a billion attempts.

I'm also pretty excited about getting a Bubblebeam Lola (just to say I have one). Jynx is another one of my favs, but I don't really want to use a nicknamed Pokemon in the game, otherwise I'd probably replace Vileplume with it.
