Yourself as an Art Enthusiast

Let's see

-I draw a lot better in real life than I do on the computer

-I just started using a tablet somewhere in August 2010

-Before I got a tablet I would draw/color free hand on the computer

-I never use guide lines for my art, except for a circle for the head

-I love coloring with colored pencils

-I use both SAI and Paint Shop (but mostly SAI)

-I love drawing wolves and dogs

-In sai I always end up with hundreds of layer, even if it's just a simple drawing

That's about all I can think of off the top of my head

-I started out my digital art on iScribble, and I use that for nearly everything I have to do nowadays that is art based.

-I can't draw a clean, straight line for the life of me (Look at those horrible, horrible lines)

-The only program that I have really ever used other than iScribble (if you even can count that as a program), was SAI. Since the 'controls' were similar and weren't that complicated compared to GIMP and Photoshop, I used it until my Trial Version thing ran out. I never bothered with any other art program again, unless I had to edit some sort of photo (made the logo for my dad's company :> )

-I don't like drawing people.

-I don't like coloring things on paper, only digitally.

-Because of my 'funny line making techniques', I also hate drawing small details.

-I really only draw Pokemon :>

-I abuse layers as much as I possibly can.

iScribble is not friendly to lines. I wouldnt bother with it.

I've switched my brush visibility settings in PS from 50/50 (opacity/flow) to 100/40, I think it's more comfortable to draw with now. It's a pain adjusting flow because you have to consider stylus pressure also affects it.

Spent the whole afternoon on lineart. It feels like a chore sometimes, because it's so time consuming and tedious. Easily my least favourite stage of doing a CG art.

Welp,here goes...
-Began drawing when I was barely that of a toddler...I had the tendency to draw a bit,er..."Unique drawings"-My talent grew from then on.

-Art improved from then,in 3rd-6th grade,I had a huge knack for drawing Sonic, all that was sonic was drawn by me...

-In 7th grade,I began to tap more into my,hmm,Human concepts. This was inspired by my love for anime. All my classmates were rather envious of me because I almost always scored an A in Art.

-And now in 8th grade,my art has become more refined, its not the best, but its at least up to par...I'm getting used to Paint...still working out a few kinks though...:/Oh and one last tidbit,I also dabble in pokemon, its minor but....Its just something I love...

Now for the facts:
=============
.I use both Pencil and Pen when doing my work
.I never really learned how to draw,it came naturally...
.The anime I was inspired by was,Soul Eater
.I stopped drawing sonic in 2010
.I am currently inspired by Final Fantasy Artwork
.I love vibrant colors,it makes the picture "jump out" at you

I, personally, cant remember when i started drawing, when i was little i would take a stack of sticky notes and just go down the row of pokemon 1-151 and then stick them all over the place. Boy did my parents get mad.LOL anyways I use just paper and mechanical pencil (I cant stand regular wooden pencils) i dont much like digital art but i would love to learn how ken sugimori and xous color their pokemon because the coloring is just awesome! Having been out of school for a while because of surgery, ive gotten bored and decided to make my own generation of pokemon and the designing of those creatures is taking forever. But pokemon is nearly all i draw, the only other thing i draw that isnt pokemon is dr. suess characters that my mom uses in her 3rd grade classroom but then her students swarm me when i come to the classroom because i always have my drawing pad chock full of pokemon designs in it.
Anyway to restate how I draw:
I use only mechanical pencils
i usually do not color my art but if i do i use colored pencils or those twist up crayons

I feel like a moron now. I've only just found out how to set tool presets in photoshop. The thing that I assumed was tool presets was in fact brush presets (which dont include opacity and flow), and in gimp they were sort of one and the same so.... nevermind...

Also my stylus's pressure sensitivity is going down. I hope it isn't spoilt... a replacement bamboo stylus is like almost US$50 here...

Meanwhile I'll just replace my stylus nib, which has worn out after half a year. The product comes with 3 spares.

Colouring is actually the easiest part really... it's the reason why children have colouring books and not lineart books or shading books, etc. Shading is just selective colouring although it is challenging in its own way. Illustration is where the real challenge lies.

Oh god this just cracks me up

I need to bookmark that tumblr page

For the record, there is a pert of digital art that involves the computer doing all the work instead of the person: it's called filters and it's like 10% or less of the whole art process usually.

Oh, those are amazing. Once again, I am awed/inspired by the intellegence of (some) the users of dA.

As much as I like to draw, there's times when stuff feels like work or a chore, and stress just gets everywhere

This is why I can never art as a career.

It's not like I don't get stressed with other work like school projects too, but with art it's a huge turn-off when something I'm supposed to like doing as a pastime feels like a chore, working under pressure. It kills my motivation faster than... I dunno what's a good metaphor for something really fast >_>

(totally wasting time here instead of focusing on aforementioned art project)

I think people who've ever had to do art against a deadline will probably understand.

Yah, most of the time comics kill my motivation. I can only make super-skimpy ones, that way I don't lose my motivation to quickly. But yes, it sucks when you have to draw your freetime away by a deadline.

I have work and national service. Were it not for those I'd be more than happy to draw all day long to meet the deadline >_>

I'm still on photoshop now at 1 in the morning forcing myself to colour. I have to get up at 6. Will replace sleep with caffeine and taurine, among other drugs.

Informal request: please do something about your avatar so that it doesn't make my kid sister cry when she sees my screen. It's not the avatar that annoys me, it's my sister's crying >_< (It's not a serious request, I just got jolted a few minutes ago when my sis started bawling behind me and pointing at my screen)

The avatar? Really? Because only the banner was meant to disturb small children. The avatar was meant to make me look even dumber than usual.

- I can't recall when I first started drawing, probably when I was about 4. I used to have a thing with trains when I was young so the tube-like structures allowed me to get a grip on things like perspective at an early age
- This, among other influences, led me to develop a rather realistic style. Drawings were usually robots or machinery with very good proportions (for my age anyway). However, I hardly ever experimented with colour. My shading styles were similarly realistic but never daring.
- I got really good with shading with pens.
- About 4 years ago my art style finally broke out of its boring cocoon and started to expand into more interesting, surreal areas. I still had a rather inflexible shading technique, but I let my mind wonder and started to play with more abstract, nonsensical structures (like this and this I guess)
- Many things were learned doodling in maths and physics classes.
- When I shared my stuff on the internet people were well receptive, taking on requests boosted my technique somewhat. Although some requests were a bit odd.
- Now I don't draw as much but I'll always be up for an iscribble jamming session

I dunno they're both weird. Also hell you were already dumb, you don't need to advertise that any more explicitly

perspectives on tubes are sort of easier because they're sort of like a linear shape so they go nicely with imaginary perspective lines IMO. It's when you go into things like people or trees or other stuff that perspective becomes trickier.

I used to practice perspective by drawing the walls of a room (which provide the guidelines) and then trying to put furniture and people into the room. I remember drawing the ceiling fan was a bit of a challenge, it's really easy to screw up and you'd get a nagging feeling the perspective is off but somehow have trouble pinpointing the issue

...

4 a.m. in the morning and still CG-ing away on my art project. The fridge is running low on Red Bull and my mom is Concerned. It's funny really, a long time ago she tried to deter me from drinking Red Bull by lying that it was an alcoholic beverage ("pffft yeah right mom like we're stupid and can't read the ingredients on a can at the age of ten")

I have also realised that I draw tree canopies using the same technique as I do for clouds. Which is kind of wrong in tree-drawing because clouds don't have leaves. I need to find a tree tutorial. Some people have a custom brush for drawing leaves on a tree. Maybe I should get one.
