Sometimes not very competitive is better than too competitive. At least in the former a good player has a pretty nice chance of winning. In the latter, a good player has a much lower chance of winning, because everybody's good.

...You notice the shirts the people wear? And they're all the same? Huh, I wouldn't think people's shirts would be something interesting to notice...unless they wear shirts like mine (I wear a lot of science-related shirts and I shuffle them around a lot).

Also yeah, nothing wrong for being turned away from a place because it smells bad.

Great so far! The class schedule is pretty exhausting, but the campus is huge and there are so many other people; it's something I'll have to get used to.
