Part of what you said is true. However, would someone keep the change if 1000 members were unhappy or possibly left? The members ARE what make a forum, so they do have some influence. The biggest influence right now is probably just this thread alone with everyone's posts.

The coding of the site is fine. It wasn't an accident. However, there are many people who object to it, including some of the staff.

Approved. Just a suggestion, you might want to split some of the paragraphs for easier readability and possibly bold "Main Comments:" etc. which would also add readability.
