‘Phantom Forces’ Elite Trainer Box, Collector’s Album, Xerneas vs. Yveltal Deck Images [8/22]

People need to stop harping on the ETB. It is easily the best satellite product for the Pokemon Trading Card Game that has ever been produced, and is the envy of other TCGs with similar products (like MTG Fat Packs, which look awful when compared to these). So happy to see that Phantom Forces is getting one, as one every other set had been the pattern up until now.

ETBs are also a fantastic tool for Sealed Pokemon events. Seriously so many league organizers are so lazy; it doesn't always have to be just free play. Spice up your league with Drafts and sealed events and other ways that make the game different. Honestly it is so much more fun. Get these alternate play styles into the public mind and Pokemon may start actually supporting them.

I don't know what kind of cards I would want in this set. The EX cards are all meh. Hopefully M Manetric is going to be good....

I want those Gengar sleeves for my Vilegar deck.

Vilegar, as in Boundaries Crossed Vileplume and M Gengar? That's a great Idea for a deck!

No. I was referring to the deck with Vileplume Undaunted(Favorie card ever), and Gengar Stormfront. It is one of my favorite decks ever, and I still play it against some friends. Vileplume Undaunted's ability Alergy Powder makes it so no one can use Trainer cards. Because your opponent has so many worth less cards in there hand you use Gengar's Poltergiest to see there hand and do massive damage.

We get a bunch of worthless reprints. Why can't we get Broken Time Space?

I feel somewhat insulted that every XY set to date as gotten (at least) one trainer box except for Flashfire. I mean we could have had a Mega Charizard X Trainer Box and a Mega Charizard Y Trainer Box. Oh, well. Pretty much expected news.

They were supposed to be once every two sets earlier this year, I guess the past few have sold well enough that they've changed their plan.

It's not a deliberate decision to exclude Flashfire.

People keep mentioning that the ETB would be a great alternative to the usual pre-release method.

I say it would be worse.

Reasons:

1: more expensive, paying $40 instead of $30 for the same amount of packs.

2: way less reason to even play in the tournament, we already have enough people dropping out after the first round just to get their packs. With this having all the packs already, what's the point of even playing (for some people).

3: the box would need to come out really early, so again if you can just buy the box (before the pre-release) why even have a pre-release?

@Furn: No, no it's not deliberate. But still kind of annoying, at least IMO. To each their own.

Yes, it is. TPCi dropped the ball on that one, Charizard is a cash cow.

The ETB look cool, but I'd rather just buy packs or booster boxes so I don't waste time trying to get rid of all the other stuff I don't use/need.

Well I for one love all the energy in the ETBs and the sleeves aren't the best for play, but are nice and clear for storing ultra rares. Also, the checklist comes in handy. Looking forward to another one :D

The Battle Arena thing sounds cool. Coming with 20 shiny cards is interesting considering that the package says, "for advanced players" and, "expert strategy". Maybe it could have reverse cards that are used more often like the Red Genesect Deck? Also I like the artwork for the legendaries.

Collector's album? I have enough binders for now.

I hate to keep "harping" on this one, but if you are an "Elite Trainer" you probably have more energy than you will ever need...

So please stop with the energy cards in these boxes!
Unless they are foil or something cool...

You obviously don't get it. This is THE only product where people without energy can get every single type of energy in one product. Just because you have boatloads of energy does not mean that other people who do not have access to energy cards shouldn't have a product that contains all 9 energy types in one product. I think that is just being selfish.

Maybe you are interpreting the Elite in Elite trainer box wrong. Maybe it isn't for elite trainers, but it is to make non-elite trainers into elite trainers. Maybe you should interpret it that way.

By your logic, why not remove the sleeves, dice, poison burn counters, player's guide, and everything except boosters because obvious the elite trainers already have enough of those, especially if you already bought a few Elite Trainer Boxes already. Would it make the "elite" trainer box not for "elite" people if you bought it the 5th or 6th time? This makes my definition of "elite" in Elite trainer box more logical than yours. You buy one of them, and you become elite so you don't have to buy another one again.

Your interpretation of "elite" in elite trainer box means that once you buy a few, you already have all the stuff like sleeves, dice, poison and burn counters. So as I said, you are "elite", and elite players already have sleeves, dice, and poison and burn counters, therefore they should stop making the product altogether, and we, with the exception of you, all know how stupid that sounds.

Do you know what your interpretation of "elite" players do? Buy singles and never touch sealed product.

Honestly, at this point, I would love to see XY5 be a reprint set, ala Legendary Treasures. XY, Flashfire, and Furious Fists(And Phantom Forces, probably) all have great cards, but XY and Flashfire have way, Way, WAY too many filler cards and awful rarities, so it would be really nice to have 1 convient set that has nothing but Tier 1-2 cards. Maybe even some original cards, ala Ninetales and Meloetta-EX. It would also be an excellent way to introduce Diancie to the TCG.

Reprints sets happen at the end of the series lifespan like Call of Legends and Legendary Treasures. I don't want anything reprinted right now. Legendary Treasures made the format change less dramatic. I want each format change to take a crushing blow to 90% of all decks.

Call of Legends was HGSS-5, and BW had an excuse for taking a while to release Legendary Treasures because BW and B2W2 were the same series, with no remakes between. You see, with ORAS approaching soon, I believe that the set after XY5 will be ORAS1. I'm not looking for drama, I'm just looking for an affordable way for newcomers to get the really good decks for not a lot of money.

Diamond and Pearl Stormfront and Platinum Arceus wants a word with you.

Are we supposed to discuss the PF Products here? xD

Sad sad.. A Galvantula with 80HP and a seemingly "bad" Shiftry.
Also, a new Talonflame (acrobatics (so I guess X+ 2 coin flips for X) and something else) and Diancie!!

As WPM posted here instead of making a new Thread for it, that's a yes. ;)

Well, Galvantula is already an underwhelming Pokémon. I do hope that it's Mega Evolution rumors come true... eventually. xD But apart from that, I don't think it'll be that good. About Shiftry, it was revealed already, and it IS bad, as you say. :p

I hope that if there's some Lightning and Psychic support, that it's included in the decks. Man, at least a Special Energy per deck, for Christ's sake. xD You could have done that with Furious Fists, TPCi, but you messed it up. Congrats.
/me applauds
Just don't do it again.

I hope Walmart sells the three packs for 11.98 like they are selling the Flashfire, it's cheaper then buying singles. I hope this means Diancie is a Full Art.

It does not rule out a Diancie-EX as an EX. We have, from Phantom Gate's main set:

Gengar-EX
M-Gengar-EX
Manectric-EX
M-Manectric-EX

Usually, JPN sets have around 4*5 EX's NOT counting Mega's, so we are still missing some.

There's a slight chance that we'll get Diancie-EX, but no full art (see: Hawlucha-EX), which would be pretty lame. That said, considering Dialga and Aegislash already appear to be regular-art only theme deck cards, I'm pretty hopeful (that is, if it is and EX at all...). Maybe it will actually be playable!
