Lots of naysayers that yapped before even seeing how the game was gonna play out, must be feeling a little silly right now. You can already tell, from the people making and consuming content for the game, that this is gonna be the hugest hit ever. People are locked behind VPN stuff to play, and it's still crazy that some channels that just began, get tens of thousands of views in every video. People are eager to play it, and the content creators all say that they've been completely surprised by how much they loved the game, and how much engagement they're getting.
Turns out the gameplay is actually pretty fun, and having the different set of rules, along with power levels that seem to go back to a time where you still hadn't had almost 30 years of powercreep, actually makes for a fun, engaging play experience. People who had never played the TCG in their lives are loving it, and people that already play the TCG are liking the new puzzle of discovering what works in this completely different paradigm of rules/power level.
The economy is looking fine as well, except for just a few easily correctable things. Apparently, putting a couple hundred bucks in the game gets you almost everything that is mechanically unique (i.e. you have access to normal exes and stuff, you just won't have all the alt arts stuff, which is perfectly fine, since alt arts are a vanity thing and not required to actually play the decks). In fact of the top of my head, the only really annoying thing right now is that the crafting system is complete ass. You can craft a regular ex if you opened like 100 packs. It's just not worth it. let's see if they'll change that.
One thing that worries me though, is something that is at the same time a god and a bad thing. And that is how much this is attracting people that had zero familiarity with the TCG. It's good for obvious reasons, because it will make the game grow. But the bad thing is, people that are clueless about how the TCG usually is, as in, what is the "culture" of the TCG, in the sense that what is usually considered ok, or even necessary. For instance, they see a draw supporter and say that it's OP and broken and should be nerfed because every deck runs it. While there's nothing wrong with that. They say "P's R is Pot of Greed, and Pot of Greed is broken!", well, guess what sherlock, similar effects should be treated differently when they appear in completely different games. They're already crying about Misty, they need to nerf Misty, which is a "flip until you get tails" style effect...anyway, people are completely clueless, and already being very vocal in their clulessness. So I hope the Pocket app is handled like the actual TCG and they only ever touch anything if it gets really grotesquely bad. Cause right now it's actually an amazing gameplay experience and there's nothing wrong with it (for anyone that has played the TCG for years and has more context in evaluating stuff at least).
