“Prismatic Evolutions” Demand Higher than Supply, Allocations Severely Cut to Local Stores

Beat the demand, don't buy the product. Singles all the way yo!
Yep I’m only buying singles and all the singles I want are cheap in Japanese so I’m betting they will be in English too. So many people will be ripping for the eeveelutions so anyone wanting the other SIR’s will find them cheap due to supply. Prayers for anyone wanting an eeveelution though…

There are 4 easy to get cards i want from this set so i'll just buy singles.

But if the problem stays with next sets with lots of playable cards that will be tragic.

I found that if lots of product goes to scalpers the cards end up in bulk boxes in someones basement and not on the market.

Don’t think so. Japan has a guaranteed sar per box. I opened three single booster and had three. All the packs that had been opened in France had none. Japanese cards are generally cheaper. The recent chase cards don’t even come close.

I'm a TCG player who is extremely invested in the hobby, living in Tokyo since 2020 and seeing all things Pokémon up close here in Japan.

The problem 100% does exist here.
It doesn’t. Than you don’t look close enough. They do have favorites but they don’t exclusively have Charizard products like we have (recent ones from here were always the theee kanto starters there) and they have products for even the most unlikely pokemon in regular basis. What you refer to is probably card shops catering to foreigners which became a deal in the past three years only pushing these Pokemon that sell well here - cause that’s what people who visit look for. The Pokemon centers are really tame and don’t really push the same Pokemon as we do.

The problem doesn’t just exist in Japan; what’s even worse is that many of these issues originate from the West—mainly Europe and the USA. Practices like scalping and reselling repackaged items, which were almost nonexistent in Japan in the past (the birthplace of Pokémon), have now started affecting collectors there too.

For example, I live in France, and I can still find Evolutions Prismatic booster boxes in Japanese for around €70. However, some of my friends living in Japan struggle to find the same items, or they only find them on the secondary market with prices adjusted to cater to Western or American consumers.

It’s disheartening to see how these trends are impacting even the most passionate collectors in Japan.

Rationalize it all you want, dude. People that buy up large volumes of sealed product or promos are kinda lame. They might not be as bad as scalpers and "investors", but they all work together to make buying product worse for everyone else. TPCi and retailers aren't helping either.
sealed product i get cause i opened over 400 packs of 151 and never pulled the charizard, its pokemon's fault for making it so hard to complete sets by opening but promos are lame cause you dont need multiple of the same promo unless you are reselling, i never got the grey hat felt pikachu and im not inclined to i just see it as that one card people scalped the hell out of and made up an overpriced economy for it

I don’t think it is their fault, but rather us brainless western fans only likening o s or two cool looking pokemon. The problem doesn’t really exist in Japan.
did you see clay burst? iono was like $1000 and boxes where all scalped because of it, still impossible to get a box and the only box besides 151 that isnt on pokemon center

To be honest, I was really frustrated yesterday when I saw a father couldn't buy 151 for his child because of the high price. I don't know if there are capable people who can stand up and say something to the Pokémon Company. Although we are happy to see that our market is developing well, we are really worried about whether our next generation can have fun in this game.

Now will be the time to go for the Japanese version, while everyone else is fighting at the stores and Japan will be going on to their next set, it'll be the prime time to get it

My LGS was affected by this. A couple months ago, they thought they were getting several cases of ETB's. I was planning on buying a case. Their allocation was then reduced to 1 case (10 etb's) and one case of each of the other products. They usually get a decent amount of product too. Not the insane numbers that bigger stores get, but more than most small LGS.
you are part of the problem, NO ONE NEEDS TO BUY A WHOLE CASE TO THEMSELVES

A case is 10 boxes. That's 90 packs which isn't even three booster boxes worth if this were a regular set. This is also clearly a set that they designed with the idea that collectors open a ton of packs to complete the 50 secret rares and three different reverse holo patterns, so....

I get being anti-scalper, but TPCi needs to have a little foresight about what sets will have high demand if the line between scalpers and collectors is so apparently thin.

I thought I was safe with this set. I had a good amount preordered since Nov last year. Less than two weeks from release, I've got two of my orders cancelled. I've lost about 40% of the packs I had in the various products I had on preorder. With how close the set is from release, obviously I can't do anything about it. It's so extremely frustrating, particularly because I thought my orders were confirmed. I don't understand how this happens. As a store, why would you offer preorders on unconfirmed orders? Why are distributors taking orders from retailers when they don't know how much they're actually getting? As the printer of the cards, why are you allowing distributors to assume they will receive the same allocation as previous sets when the product is being distributed to so many more retailers than normal? At what stage of this chain did the problem occur?
