Why do a lot of people don't like the water one. He isn't the greatest but isn't bad either. Still i'm taking the grass one probably.

Water starter fan right here, ive always gotten that type and they have consitenntly been my favorite kind of starters. Piplup was cute then it got cooler. I like them all though. I call the fire pig porkchop.

Fire starter fan opnion: The grass one looks badass, and i heard it's classified as a "grass snake pokemon", mybe it's last evo will be catzeocatl, cuz it would be cool if so. The water one looks depressing, but it's cute and "porkchop" is....dissapointing...but, gotta see their evos befor I choose

Honestly I think some of the people complaining will get used to them just like the gen 4 starters.
I've been hating those more and more, and I didn't like any of them except for Piplup when they were 1st revealed...
Although I guess they're slightly better than the Gen3 starters sans Mudkip.

One thing I've predicted but didn't want to see fulfilled is the eyes. Look at the pig's eyes, now look at the original starters', now back at the pig's eyes, they aren't the starters' eyes, they don't even smell like them. The eyes changed from a largely triangular shape to a elliptical shape, away from a more traditional manga-esque style and more like American cartoons. NOT a good thing. This change has been going on ever since Gen3, and I was hoping it would've ended with gen4. I was wrong. Not at all looking forward to this generation.

The thing I dislike most, though, is the extra unnecessary design elements, like all the yellow parts of the Grass starter, the markings on the pig or the shell, freckles and collar of the otter. This is also something they've been doing since Gen3 (and even Gen2, but not to such an extent) I think they're trying to blur the resemblance to the animal they're based on, but fail miserably. Although I guess the kids like pretty colours like that...

Oh well, not much I can do about all of this. I hope you people who do like these abominations enjoy yourselves, all I know is that I once again find myself not wanting to pick any of the starters, let's hope the Rattata of this gen looks at least semi-decent.

Older characters? Don't tell me GameFreak is actually going to make an interesting story...
You're funny.

The Grass one looks awsome, and is cute but will probably evolve into something ferocious, slightly
resembling Victreeble.
The Fire pig is awsome, though I still like the Grass one best.
Finally, I can't decide whether the Water one is a sea otter, a beaver, or a sea beaver....

I'm really worried we're getting another Grass/Poison with the starters, considering "ivy" is in the Japanese name
and the tail has three leaves, which in some way probably relates to poison ivy. It's likely I'd still pick him, but
I think we've got enough Grass/Poison types to last us a long time.

I'm pretty sure it's suppose to be a Sea Otter.

not what i was expecting, and (my beef) ....

"The main characters are older than ever before; they are not children." they are children!!! there just scruffy, you can tell by there height, there eye's and the way there dressed, they actually look like ten year old's where i live, small yet with dark scruffiness for hair.

and lastly, woot for an attack called trickery. cya

P.S. they probably look fake because they look terrible (and not like they actually fit in with the rest of the pokemon, but you can tell that it was drawn by Nintendo, pokemon, whatever)

I think the designs are really good - better than the last two generations anyway. Apart from the Otter they seem more simplistic, less over-done than many of the Hoenn & Sinnoh Pokémon (not that they're necessarily bad designs, I just prefer the more simplistic, animalistic look). That said I think they all have a lot of potential - I'm very interested in seeing their evolutionary lines, as right now my favourite is the Grass Pokémon, but it's a very close call (I'm not sure which I would choose at this point).

About all the other information, I think the region name is cool, the city looks awesome, and the idea of older characters is brilliant. I'd guess between thirteen & sixteen, but their designs look good so I'm not overly fussed (although a slightly more mature game all over would be a nice touch).

So far, so good!

Gen 4 starters looked terrible for me at first (except for turtwig) then they became cooler as I played the game, of course this gens starters aren't as great as the first or secong gen. but give them time, you'll see what I mean. There not THAT bad! The grass and the water one are the coolest, the fire isn't that much (just like chimchar) but we'll get used to it...hopefully

I just made sprites of the Fire and Grass Pokemon.

Here they are:

Just thought I'd throw these out there, but please tell me if you use them.

I like the starters. The water type needs to grow on me. I personally like the fire pig the best. Grass snake thing looks cool.

Based on what was said about Zoroark, does that mean it's considered an event only pokemon, or is there other ways of finding a Zorua or Zoroark?

I don't know. It's feasable that the Zoroark you get through the event is different in some way from a normal one, but it seems weird that they'd make it event-only when it's clear it has to be breedable (To get zorua). They can't make it like Manaphy/Phione since they've already said Zorua evolves 'by a method never seen before.' So once the event came out, it would just be bred and then anyone could get one.

I like the idea of adults instead of kids. Other than that I don't have a big opinion on the starters. I like the fire one more than I thought I would, but I'll wait longer until I actually decide if I like them or not.

What in the good name of God is up with the girl's hair?

Yes! Woot! I totally called fire pig. That is the cutest fire-based pig in the world. Except he might be the only one... The grass starter looks cool, but eerily similar to Treecko. It's trying to be cool, just like Treecko. Either way, it's neat. Now, the water one scares me. It looks like a clown/beaver, not an otter. I like otters, so this disappoints me. Plus it looks so sad... But I still called fire pig! Yeah!

P.S I love the girl's hair. I looks so retro.

I'm sry but they are horrible, no offense to anyone that likes them. I just am so dissapointed, what happened with the creativity from the first and second generation? I mean I can't even choose one that would be worth playing with. It looks like they just doodled when they were bored and said hey lets just use these! I guess its just cuz I grew up on pokemon when they first came out and they did such an awesome job and it looks like they keep getting worse and worse!!!! Other then that I do like the new teens or adults whatever there gonna be. The girls hair is adorable! I would love to see them put in the game where you can customize your own character, but who knows when that will come around. I also hope your pokemon can follow you like they added in HG and SS! I would be so upset if they take that out! The one thing I was happy with is that the kids are older, I can relate to them more, I hope they do go towards an older audience, but still keep it fun for kids too!

They're awesome! Do you think you'll do one for the Water Starter? I'd love to use the Grass Sprite for an Avatar if that's alright by you?

I expect that you'll be able to catch Zorua outside of the event, and that the Zoroark will have some special move or attribute to make it special. Equally knowing Nintendo it could be an event-exclusive, which would be a let down.

Sure! Glad they're liked!

I'll do the ugly beaver thing in a bit after some studies. I'm also gonna put em in Platinum, just like I did Zorua and Zoroark, and put the video on Youtube of me using them.

Keep your eyes peeled for a link! xD

Dude, Diglett/Dugtrio, Koffing/Weezing, Doduo/Dodrio, Rhyhorn/Rhydon.

That's not creativity. That's repetition.

You are blinded by the fact that you grew up with the first and second generation, and that's why you love them.

Pokémon will always be Pokémon, no amount of b**ching and whining will change that.

Yeah first gen was SO original

Voltorb was a Pokeball with eyes better yet it just flips upside down when it evolves.

Or Magnamite & Diglett a design so original a 2 year old child could replicate and their evolutions are top notch, gluing 3 of them together, pure creative genius!
