(1) 'Dragons Exalted' Giratina-EX, Rayquaza-EX, and Garchomp Revealed! [6/20]

Awesome! These have great art! However, those moves seem pretty terrible. Rayquaza's second move is debatable.

Rayquaza's second move [Dragon Burst {R}{L}] is amazing. Can pretty much knock out any other EX with just 3 Energy of one type. Can't wait 'til August 15th!

Yay Garchomp and Rayquaza! Looks pretty awesome to see them in English. Still hopen for the Abilibite.

But, You only get the power boost from cards you did discard.

I know that. It means you can attach a Prism and not worry about discarding it.

Since no one understands this (took me a while also), I'll try to explain it.

If it wasn't only basic energy, then, if you had a Prism attached, you would have to discard it when you used Dragon Burst, no matter which kind of energy you chose to discard. Why? Because Prism counts as EVERY type of energy, which would therefore force you to discard it.

It says all {R}or{L}. Couldn't you just count it for the other?

It doesn't matter what Prism provides. Rayquaza-EX says to discard basic Energy cards. Prism is a Special Energy card.

Read Prism please. Where does it say "pick what energy this card counts as"? It says it counts for all energy at the same time.

[1:10:52 PM] Alex Hedge: counts as every energy, but ONLY ONE AT A TIME so it counts as a fire when you use the attack

Only one Energy at a time means it can't provide two units of Energy. It can only provide all 9 types of Energy at once in a single unit of Energy.

Ok. Sorry, I don't really play TCG much. Let alone in the current format. Anyways, Its a special energy, so you don't have to discard it since the card says all Basic fire or electric.

YES. I'm so glad that actual good cards will be easy to pick up now. The better Garchomp and Hydreigon in decks? I'm game. Ray EX, Mewtwo EX and Darkrai EX in tins? This is definitely going in the right direction for players that want to get competitive. Good work TPCi. You're doing it right.

looking at the decks, neither of them name dragon as the main theme, going with the energies of each dragon rather than dragon themselves.

I would have expected them to list the dragon as an actual type, even if it doesn't have an energy card yet

Good decks, good tins, good collections... This is only gettin better.
One question: why would you prefer to use Prism instead of Basic Lighting/Fire Energy? Now, you can't use it to discard, so just to pay 1 energy cost I would prefer basic, specially with Drifblim+Enhaced Hammer around there.

Wow. Garchomp and Hydreigon in the theme decks. That is pretty awesome. If the Garchomp theme deck has the good Gible and good Gabite it is going to be a huge seller. If they have some good trainers and supporters I'm totally buying them.

Hm, looks like Garchomp and Hydreigon aren't holo in this set. Oh well, I prefer reverses anyway and I bet the dragon type reverses will look pretty rad.

Rayquaza-EX – Dragon – HP170
Basic Pokemon

[C] Heaven’s Call: Discard the top 3 cards from your deck, and if there are any Energy cards, attach them to this Pokemon.
[R][L] Dragon Burst: 60x damage. Discard either all basic Fire Energy or Lightning Energy cards attached to this Pokemon. This attack does 60 damage times the number of Energy discarded in this way.

When Pokemon-EX has been Knocked Out, your opponent takes 2 Prize cards.

Weakness: Dragon (x2)
Resistance: none
Retreat: 1

Rayquaza discarding only basics is actually news to you people?

I also read the card text itself to confirm. I don't know what the Japanese word for "basic" is, but I do know what the word for "special" is. The attack did specify a certain type of energy, and since I knew it wasn't special, it had to be basic.
