@Blob55 Is that the reason why you think it sounds like a cave? Isshu means one variety, so I could make an Isshu cave. They could give a cave any name, it doesn't change the fact that it's a cave. Same with all the English names.
Throughout the game, there are numerous references to Americans such as sports players, people of different races, street dancers, a subway, more advanced technology, and even a guy speaking English in the Japanese game.
Hiun City is based off New York City, I live in NY and I see a multitude of people wearing suits while going to work. People in countries everywhere wear suits, your point?

Not to mention the game is made in Japan. But remember, we're getting the English version of the game therefore Japanese names will have to be modified, not actual in-game items. You misinterpreted what I said. What is the PROBLEM with changing the region name in the first place?

So Isshu/Unova is based on America, instead of being based on a real region of Japan, so it they went and Americanized the name? I never looked at it that way.... I suppose that makes sense, and it really would be difficult to romanize "Isshu," but what does the meaning of Unova "one new" have to do with why they picked THAT name in particular.
Snivy and Tepig: I'm fine with these names.

@Blob55: he was only there for promotion of the games for example:
-in the gen1 games he was a gym leader so of course they added him to the series
-gen2 he was also included in the games so once again he was in the series
-gen3 although he wasn't in R|S|E that was the time FR|LG came out and since he was included in that he was in the series.
-gen4 he wasn't in D|P|Pt but HG|SS came out during this time and since he was in those games once again he was in the series.
-now that B|W is coming out and most likely a remake of R|S|E (once it's officially 10yrs old) he won't be in the anime because he has nothing to do with those games so he isn't needed anymore.

I've heard that, too. It's a bit more of a stretch, but it's also plausible. Or perhaps it a mix of the two. Nintendo might have been like, "Hey, this means something in Latin AND it's a bad abbrerviation for the U.S.. It's perfect!!!!" From experiencing their way of thinking, it wouldn't surprise me at all.

First things first - the names. Snivy, Tepig, and Oshawott - are they really worse or less creative sounding than Squirtle, Grimer, or Magnemite? No, they're not. You people cannot really mean that you think that "Grimer" is a better name than "Oshawott"? Maybe it is, because it only takes 1 second to understand. These names (spare Snivy) actually have a little bit deeper of a meaning. You can't just glance at them and know what they're talking about. Anyways, I'm droning on - if you guys really don't like their new names, for the love of Giygas, just nickname them! You are given the option to, you know.
Now, about Unova - it seems a lot of people dislike that name because "HOMG THEY DID SOMETAN DIFFERNT DERP DATZ BADD!!1". Oh, quit whining, just because something is different does not mean it's bad. I admit, I at first thought it was a little odd, but after I found out what it possibly stood for, it sounded a lot better. Different, but better. Sometimes, guys, change is a good thing - It means they are really trying something new with this gen (or are at least attempting to).
In other words, just relax - no one's forcing you to say these names and no one's forcing you to like them. I'm all for opinions, but when everyone starts to sound like cranky 7 year-olds, those "opinions" sound a lot more like a case of butthurt. If you don't like them, quit raging and get over it. Seriously. These names will not change, no matter how much you cry about them.

Latin is an ancient language and is the basis for most languages we use today, it is not restricted to only Europe.
