(1) Pokemon X and Y Announced! [1/8]

People will of course disagree with me, but IMO the starters look quite ridiculous: Chespin is just... weird, and Froakie is something I'd expect to meet in a Legend of Zelda game. So much different than the original Pokemon style (and this is coming from someone who generally says "newer is always better"), they just don't make me say "Hey, a Pokemon!". Fennekin looks OK though (some problems, but in moderation), let's just hope its evolutions stick to it.

Glad they're going for 3D though, I'm looking EXTREMELY forward to the improved Pokemon Stadium/whatever battles. The overworld being like this could be hard to get used to though: it seems to give you a LOT less view, hopefully the areas are created with this in mind so you don't need a map or endlessly zigzag to ensure you don't miss anything (and especially not like Pokemon Black/White on that snow mountain, forgot the name. What a disaster that was: a large open area with many cave entrances... But that's an extreme).

Does this mean that wifi events will be worldwide as well? because i'd be particularly looking forward to that :p

Okay this may be a shot in the dark, but if the game is really located in a Paris-like setting, I'm hoping to see pokemon based on french folklore, we already saw a lot of pokemon based on japanese myths, so why not pokemon based on little red riding hood, cinderella or puss in boots? Those are a few characters who originated from french fairy tales.

Something is very uncharacteristic about the names of the new games. If they were going with a genetic theme ("X" chromosome, "Y" chromosome), then Deoxys and Mew should be involved, but I am getting a sense that that will not be the case. The starters certainly don't look like they have to do with manipulating DNA.

I wonder if this is going to be more of an expansion than a full blown generation. It would be nice if Gamefreak broke the mold for once.

Am I the only one who's kind of excited that because the games are gunna be released simultaneously with Japan there won't be a huge spriteleak before we get it and I can be legitimately surprised for once?

This is perhaps the biggest reason i'm psyched for these games.

when watching the direct anouncement towards the end Satoru Iwata mentions "along with new pokemon you will be able to see some of the old pokemons" i wonder if we can trade or transfer or are we restricted to the ones thats in the game. ??

all I can say is that Game Freak has really outdone themselves and they're going to have trouble topping this one!

Lol check out this funny Froakie evolution I found today.

God I hope they block off the transferring of pokemon from other generations, or atleast limit it somewhat to only transferring pokemon that were caught in generation 5, cause I cant deal with all this clutter of pokemon that I'm gonna have to transfer from my old games, would feel nice to have a complete fresh start.

You forget what X and Y chromosomes represent, though. The emphasis will probably be on gender differences.

Agreed and they should provide most of the Pokemon from previous generation in the game that way no transfer is required except from generation 5 mayy be

They also mention evolution of pokemon and X and Y chromosme holds most genetic changes so these could be a link to more possible evolution

What starter Pokemon do you see Ash with in the anime? Maybe he's gonna have all 3 again.

Froakie. Maybe having someone who dislikes frogs (like may with bug-type Pokemon)?

Pokemon "X" and "Y" are certainly a new and exciting addition to the Pokemon universe, and as a TCG player, I look forward to seeing their trading card counterparts! The interesting aspect of the DNA reference(s) brings many fascinating ideas to the Pokemon world.Maybe a new way for Pokemon to evolve? Possible a new TCG evolution mechanic? The possibilities could be endless, and lead Pokemon down a fresh, new path.

Here's to a successful new Pokemon year!!!:D

Im just hoping that every pokemon is either catch-able or transferable from previous game. what worries me is that since its on the 3ds how would u transfer? would it be restricted to just B/W 2 and if they are not transferable then would they have every Pokemon in game? because when watching the direct anouncement towards the end Satoru Iwata mentions "along with new pokemon you will be able to see some of the old pokemons" i wonder if we can trade or transfer or are we restricted to the ones thats in the game.

I wouldn't be too worried about older Pokemon being inaccessable. The Dream World will probably somehow be compatible with these games, which would bridge the gap considerably (and more immediately than FireRed/LeafGreen, Colosseum, XD and Emerald did in Gen 3.) That being said, I do hope it's a clean slate this time. Gen 3 Pokemon still being usable is weird.

Wow, I have a knack for inadvertently ending up starting pages. >.>

Seeing how you could transfer from Gen lll to Gen IV I bet that Game Freak will probably just use the old Poke Transfer method if you have 2 3DS. But then again as I said before this is a completley new battle system. Judging by how from Gen ll to Gen ll went down I don't think It will be possible to do the Poke Transfer which would be a real let down.

Sometimes you prefer non-DW abilities. There should be a way to access all abilities of all pokemon in each game.
