#14: Animal Testing

._. This sounds a lot like it's merge able with a previous thread.... But okay...

IMHO it becomes immoral when you are deliberately making animals ill and physically hurt them on purpose (In the name of the almighty science).

It's fine so long as there's a reason and a good cause for doing so. I guess it's only wrong when you're doing it for no reason.

As long as you treat them right and they don't get hurt I think it should be fine. Tests like how intelligent they are and comparable tests should just be allowed. About medicines, well... we do raise and kill cows and pigs too for their meat, so as long as the tests stay reasonable I think it's fine, but they should not let the animals suffer and if they do, at least put them to sleep. About cosmetics, well it just seems cruel to hurt animals for that.

But every living creature should be accepted and you must think twice if it's really necessary to kill the certain living being. Why hurting them if they don't hurt you?

Because people think they are superior to the rest of nature. =/

We've made many animals suffer over the course of our existence. Were the animals destined to be killed? Or was it our own conscious choice to make them extinct for our own benefit?

I must say that I am against animal testing very much. I'm not going to go on a rant about how it's inhumane, but here's basically what you're doing: you're taking a poor, defenseless animal who doesn't have a say in this at all, and you're putting their life in danger so you can make a cream that makes someone's face look better. I'd just like to know, how would you feel about that? /=

I know that there are many other sorts of testing, but when it comes down to the ones for skin-care products or food or whatever, no, I don't think it's alright. If you're testing medicine, okay, then it would be fine. Although the animals do not willingly test for it, they are doing the human race a much better boon than giving us a new lotion we can spread all over ourselves.

If someone would like to offer a rebuttal to my response (which I'm almost positive will happen), please do. This is just MY opinion on the subject, remember, and I'm not trying to sound ignorant or anything. Thanks.

Afs, is that the best you can give? I expected better than that from you. Please... I'm sitting in a house, sending this message through little electronic signals, where people half way across the world can read it the second I send it. Yes, we are superior to the rest of nature. It's stupid to think anything else. That doesn't mean we should abuse nature, but we are superior to it.

It's silly to say that we shouldn't use animals to help help us. We use them for food, we also use them for science. As long as they're treated decently, I see no reason why there's anything wrong.

Would you tell a lion that it shouldn't hunt and kill a zebra because the lion is "superior" to the zebra?

Moderation is the key. You can care for nature, and you can use nature. Just don't abuse it.

This is how I see it. If we don't test cosmetics/shampoos/etc. on animals, we will have to test it on humans. This is one of those subjects where people who love animals more than humans will reveal themselves. If we sacrifice an animal, it's not a huge problem. If we sacrifice a human, however, I do think there is quite a problem there. It's really up to what you think is the lesser evil.

I agree with you 100% on this. When it get's to the point that you think animals are more important that Humans... there's something wrong with that. :/

Complain about the food industry before you complain about animal testing...

I disagree with most of the cosmetics sector anyway, but for everything else it seems quite essential. As Pokechamp mentioned before, the alternative is humans, and that'd cause quite an outrage...

Everything should be done to prevent suffering, though. Most animals don't have a concept of future and don't plan much ahead anyway, they'd probably care less if they die or not, but needless suffering is rather unethical.
(Wow, no wall ._.)

Yes as most said, I dont like animals being tested on if it has no purpose or little benifit to humans ie Cosmetics. However it is required for medicines and so on to be tested on animals as this inturn can help or save a human life which is much more significant than any other being.

Afs, is that the best you can give? No it's not, it's what I choose to give as I find this a rather dead discussion, just like the abortion thread. I expected better than that from you. Keep expecting, you are bound to get rewarded ;) Please... I'm sitting in a house, sending this message through little electronic signals, where people half way across the world can read it the second I send it. Yes, we are superior to the rest of nature. Yet we succumb to deceases, tidal waves etc. If we really are superior to nature, we should have been able to control it by now. It's stupid to think anything else. That doesn't mean we should abuse nature, but we are superior to it. Somehow, it all seem the same thing.

Look at the line below for the answer XD

Moderation is the key. You can care for nature, and you can use nature. Just don't abuse it. We have abused animals since the dawn of man, not a single tree hugger has been able to thoroughly change society to stop the madness.

Replies in bold.

I think a better topic would be how do we fix the problem? We know that cosmetics are generally bad, and medicine can't be helped. Unfortuanately, in our world; Media > Rights/Welfare. Maybe a group of 100 people protest agaisnt it. Big deal; the cosmetic company is way to big to go down, and it will only hurt those who fight it. The best we can do is wait for the gov.t to stop it them selves.

As long as innocent animals aren't killed, it's not immoral. And besides, who would we test the stuff on if we couldn't do it on animals?

._. I suddenly feel like doing the Darth Pika and say that this thread is getting weirder and weirder.
