(2) All Names Possibly Revealed, More 'Black' and 'White' English Names Revealed [1/13]

Yay, the hate is over! I think these are still pretty chansey. (LOL) Well, some are amazing,(Audino, Roggenrola, Sawsbuck, and Elgyem) but others (Throh, Sawk) are just.... strange. WHy would tpci make such bootylicious names to go with the other ones? I guess they didn't have the time.

Speaking of which, tpci is probably gonna have those racial isshus (LOL) again if they name zurruggu/zuzukin something black-related.
(kinda like with jynx) but they're not that dumb. also with Braviary. someone on another forum posted a nasty comment about its signature move being "border patrol". so i reported them.

Did anyone notice the Axew thing? the Best Wishes dub is alredy making lame puns for Iris' Axew. (the dragon sneeze thing)

Zurrugu's name is Scraggy, and it's evolution's name is Scrafty.
I don't see anything wrong there, rather decent names, but people'll think ANYthing.

Nikehesus said:actually any older Pokemon with uppercase letters will be changed to lowercase, good news for you and everyone else!

Even if it's a nickname? I could see it doing that for species names. I mean, if it does fix my nicknames then great! I just don't see how it will know where the uppercases should be. For example, I named my Dusknoir BONGOBONGO after the boss from Zelda. I would want it to be BongoBongo with lowers added. If it makes if Bongobongo, while not optimal, I could deal. Has anyone tried sending a nicknamed guy to a JP copy? If this is true then I'm set and stoaked!

I'm on the fence on whether I like Scraggy. It's reminds me of Bagon. It's just doesn't standout compared to something more punny, like Shelgon. I do like Scrafty though. It's clever since it takes it's unevolved forms name and wittily compiles "crafty" into it.

well, i guess "scraggy" isn't offensive, and if the names are fake,
i have my fingers crossed.(for good names) i just don't think tpci needs another calamity for the company.(jynx, anime seizures pokeball choking)

that's how they'll die.(the franchise)

Wait... whats wrong with "border patrol"? Is it some very sensitive thing that describes the DPRK's activities on the 38th parallel?

And the anime dub always makes puns. For a certain time, the pokespe manga was like that too.

The anime will find a way to make ANYTHING cheesy. It's a kid show. It's kinda the point... even if it's name wan't Axew.. some pokémon would end up with some name or feature that'd become a joke.

i am sorry if this offends anyone, but i'll explain it. it's a rude remark about americans arresting mexicans because of the whole deely down there....

its really mean :'(

The same goes for offensive concepts/names. I'm surprised someone hasn't brought up the fact that the eagle looks like it's wearing a native american headress. I'm sure it's because, right now, only people who pursue information about pokémon games knows about it. As soon as it starts appearing on cards and on TV it may become a big deal. Sad.

Things like games meant for entertainment shouldn't be political.. but people are always looking for undertones. Some way to ruin it. In some cases, the community is just as guilty. I'm not downin WPM here, but pointing out the "hidden" word in Cofagrigus just fuels that sort of thing. Same goes for whoever wrote the "muk spelled backwords" meme. Those actions end up fueling people, and in some cases you may not be able to predict what people will pick out and run with. I didn't pick out that word when I first read Cofagrigus. I was just tryin to figure out what "girgus" was a reference too. I saw the post first on IGN. When I read the news post here is when I saw it. It would have come up eventually.. but still.

Example: Cloyster. I loved Cloyster gen 1. Freakin awesome. Now if I say I like Cloyster, people make "naughty" jokes. Why can't I just like the thing because it's a freakin' awesome clam? Because it's other people have a problem with it's appearence.

The word "friend" doesn't have the same level as the F-word tbh... "friend" is a word that can be taken out of context if you focus on the naughty interpetation rather than say... the slang for cigarette, or it being the acronym for the guatemalan air force.

Because when middle schoolers want to hassle each other on playgrounds, they do so by insinuating that their classmates are fighter jet pilots or carcinogens, right? :p

Unless you're British (or apparently Guatemalan), the word "friend" is about stigmatizing and degrading a group of people, or stigmatizing and degrading an individual by drawing them into association with that group of people. Is everyone playing Pokemon either British (or apparently Guatemalan)?

I take your point about "outgrowing Pokemon" and the series being aimed at kids, but it's still _made_ by adults--and adults should simply know better.

^Sorry, I don't understand your point. Is it that obtaining much information before the original release isn't fun anymore?

Mostly I was just being wistful in explaining how I used to nickname my Pokemon. But, now that I think about, it's interesting to note the difference between what it might have meant to use Japanese nicknames in Generation I, whereas now Japanese nicknames might be used as a way to show discontent with the English names (or preference for the Japanese names) after one has become attached to the Japanese names, which are available a lot earlier and lot more easily than back in Generation I. This seems to be something have indicated they might do. Personally, I don't care how people nickname their Pokemon, or how they feel about the names in one language or another (and why would I, they're their Pokemon?), but the flow of information about the series is dramatically different now.

the company won't die. they'll whip up like 5 more generations.

Well, is anyone out there trying to prove the names wrong or right? where is tarazuma, swimfastray, and suave squirtle? they're good at solving this kinda thing! i miss them :(

I have only nicknamed one Pokemon in My ENTIRE Pokemon story.A Glaceon nicknamed TIFFANY (Named after one of my Chihuahuas that REALLY looked like a EEVEE)

However,I think it will be hard to get used to the names in lowercase, since we have always seen them on uppercase...

oh! gleafeon! did you like my spanish? i've been practicing! (random)

I never nickname my pokemon. once, i was so tired of seeing pidgey, i caught one and named it "Weenie" but thats all i can think of.

después me vuelvo, amigos del foro!

Actually people in my school made fun of me by calling me "pokeman" and "jigglypuff" because I liked pokemon. I also caught alot of flack because I wanted to be (and am now) a paleontologist. Bullies will use ANYTHING to make you feel bad about yourself. In the end though, your argument that, if you read in between the lines that something is probably offensive is a problem. The main thing is that's the same mindset that religious zealots use when saying pokémon evil. They assume that since we collect little monsters that we are trying to conjure demons. They pick out that since there is are dark and psychic types that we must worship the devil. I had a shirt in high school that had Houndoom on the front and said "Houndoom" below the picture. My, then, church pastor saw me wearing it at Walmart and told me that I would end up going to H*** if I wore a shirt with the devil's watchdog on it. Yea. That happened.

Now if that word offends you, sue Nintendo if it's that bad. If it's not bad enough for you to do that then it's not offending you that bad.

yeah! it is ridiculous! i'm a christian and i was BANNED from pokemon for years because of the whole devil pikachu and whatnot.

(random new year reflection) i really wouldn't have made it to 2011 without you guys, you all make me feel welcome, and normal. we can all be poke-dorks here right? thanks WPM, and all of you forum users.

Truthfully, I've found once you get out of high school no one really cares if you like something they don't. Only jerks in grade schools feel like they should make other people miserable to be happy.

Well, your spanish needs a little bit more practicing.(Advice from a little Mexican.Vamos Maractus, vence al Sawk! XD)

Ontopic:Well,I dont really think there are issues on Braviary or Cofagrigus.I mean,I think many people think that the feathers on its head really mean that, and it doesnt seem bad.As with Cofagrigus...Meh,nevermind >_<

EDIT:Sigh, that " Pokemon is evil crudpy stuff is starting to get in my nerves

I'm not saying it's "offensive"--it's a Pokemon--and I could care less if it is. What is "offensive" is, primarily, a subjective matter, and therefore not really the grounds for any sort of argument. In any event, I'm certainly not offended. All I'm saying is that Nintendo used a term that is also a slur in the name of one of its characters, and that--from a marketing standpoint--that isn't the best idea.

I've tried to show that, if this were a word that were a less "debatable" slur there would be question as to the poor choice, as people will continually trot out the old "Wait, but it means 'cigarette' in Britain!" line, even though tracing the etymology of "friend" further--so long as one wants to trace out the vagaries of language, and understand the larger contexts for it, anyway--shows that the reason the words coincide is because folks used to burn sodomites/homosexuals at the stake. The insult therefore insinuates that gay people are little more than kindling, or at least ought to be. This is the part where a "The More You Know" star flies across the forum.

But heavens no, I'm not offended, and I'm not interested in whether or not the choice is "offensive."

Yep. Hmm.... where is everyone? I need to prove these names.
(true or false?)

i should change my sig, cuz metalizard's banned. (mean comment) His title is totally true: "warning: easily angered" LOL

Just pronounce it "fog". No one will notice.

I also know a kid whose parents banned him from Pokémon for religious reasons for a while. He's a big fan now.

Oh, and Jigglypuff is a meme at my school for some reason. Not an insult.
