2014 World Cup in Brazil

I just have something to say (my very random opinion of someone who doesn't care much about football):

Even though I am Mexican, and that I expecting Netherlands to win, I can say that it was a one of those matches where a team loses because of a bad referee, yes, there were two PKs (Penalty Kicks?) that the referee didn't call, one of Mexico and another of the Netherlands, I was ok with that, because Netherelands' was more obvious than Mexico's.

But then, when the referee gave to Netherlands that PK at the end of the match... well... that was 100%"unfair", that wasn't a PK... anyway...

Mexico had minimal probs of winning, if we would have gone to extra times (Is that the correct way to say it?) we could have won. BUT, if we would have gone until PKs we would 100% lost. Mexico sucks at PKs.

I still have my hopes for Germany to win the WC. c:

I still don't get how I was MIA... what exactly should I do so as not to become MIA? Move my PC next to my TV so I can post while watching? Or carry a laptop and a 3G connection in the bus where I listened to the first half? I watched the match of the team I was rooting for. How is that MIA?
I wouldn't have called the wrong prediction in the first place if you hadn't said what you said. I don't tend to do so. And if you noticed I did say Mexico played good. I just said that from a point on they didn't. Which is right, flop or not.
I'm not gonna argue any further about flopping. You can believe anything, and you might be right or wrong. Just don't blame the loss of the match on a bad referee call and Holland's victories on Arjen Robben acting. And no, I'm not joking about what I said. Acting is one of the reasons I don't like football much, because pretty much every player exaggerates whatever happens to them. Robben is a better actor, you say? Well, I won't overlook the fact, but you should also stop acting like flopping is the only thing Robben does. Besides, the question is whether it was a PK or not. Wanna hand a card to Robben for acting? Go ahead, I'd actually support a decision like that. But what matters here is whether Marquez's leg was in an illegal spot or not.
I'm not gonna give any further length to the conversation, 'cos there's really nothing more for me to say.
Alrighty, I just want ONE last response from you, and we can then end this convo...
Fine, fair enough on the MIA part.
So, if I hadn't posted my prediction, you wouldn't call me out on it...??? Not sure if that's what you mean.
I can definitely point to how Mexico's lack of awareness on D led to the first goal, fine. But I think you (and maybe a few other posters I responded to) are missing the point. Mexico was robbed of the chance to come up with a response to the Netherlands' 1st goal. Both teams are supposed to have a fair chance of winning the game, but the moment the ref decides to make knee-jerk calls that decide the outcome of the game, the fairness/integrity of said game is lost. Whether or not we think Mexico would've survived in extra time or a PK shootout is irrelevant at this point, but what isn't irrelevant is the fact that Mexico was denied the chance to respond in ET to the goal they gave up.

Which is exactly what I said. The question is whether or not the PK was a right call or not. Robben flopping, Mexico's chances later on, they are irrelevant. What really matters is the legitimacy of the PK.

Alright, France takes down Nigeria 2-0! Now all that's left is for Algeria to beat Germany. ;)

At least the game didn't have to be decided in the lunacy of extra time/penalty kick shootout, because as most of the Round of 16 has shown us, the final is probably going to come right down to the wire, or be decided by a shootout.

Yeah, while the game didn't see a goal until the very end, France won by a clean 2-0 and the extension was only 5 minutes.

This game, the Colombia/Uruguay game, and I think one other game were games that didn't need to go to Extra Time or a Shootout to determine the winner.

Man, what a suspenseful game. Still no goals from either team, but they've both gotten so close so many times.

Edit: Welp... Germany scored.

Germany withstood Algeria to set up a Quarterfinal match with fellow Euro soccer power France. Winner of that game will play the Brazil/Colombia winner in the semis.

As I said, Germany vs. Algeria was an intense game. It's too bad Germany managed to sneak that second goal in, as Algeria scored their first literally right after. They would have been tied again if Germany didn't manage to get the second in, and there was even that slight shred of hope Algeria would score a second time at the very last second. I'm very sad to see Algeria bow out already, especially to Germany of all countries, but they played a great game and put up a good fight. Germany just beat them in figuring out how to score at the end. Still looking forward to France playing them this Friday. That should be an intense matchup, and I'll be rooting for France, naturally, who I'm a lot more confident can beat Germany.

USA vs Belgium.

Oh my! The suspense!

Tim Howard is amazing...

C'mon Team USA! Score a goal!

Edit; Aigoo. USA, really?

Ugh, Howard let in a gimmie to the Belgians. They still have time to come back and tie so they're not dead yet.

Tough pill to swallow for the US squad. I think it was interesting to see that both teams were aggressive on offense from the moment the game started, all the way until the end of ET. Let's see what effect it'll have on Belgium for their next match.

It is tough pill to swallow for the US. To get really close to the next round only to lose like this is hard.

It's going to be another 4 years, but it'll probably be the same result, which is depressing because these guys really deserved a good break.

CONCACAF teams have had bad luck in recent WC's. I know that the US made it to quarterfinals in 02, but overall whether it's been Mexico, USA, or some other team from CONCACAF, they seem to consistently get knocked out in heartbreaking fashion.

What makes it worse is that you can't just say "next time we'll win", because alot changes in 4 years... Just look at what happened to Spain. 4 years ago they were the best, this WC they seemed old and slow... very depressing for the US :/

With the last match of US vs Belgium the phase comes to an end. A good game from both sides (and I gotta hand it to Howard; he saved the US a lot of times). This means that all the teams which came first in their group pass to the next round.
World Cup will take a 2-day break starting today before the quarterfinals. First match is France vs Germany, with Brazil playing Colombia next.

Should be fun to watch. Hopefully Neymar is good to go.
