Ancient Origins [8/15, aka Bandit Ring]

Seems like a very niche card. It's unfortunate that it shuts off your own abilities, but you can time it so that it's the last thing you play before you attack.

In the current meta, there's no way this card will see play. If draw support shifts from supporters to Pokemon, I could see this being a useful card.

Am I the only one who saw this card and immediately remembered Good Gas Attack?

Possibly: I remembered Goop Gas Attack though. ;)

Theoretically, this would have been a great card in a deck that already runs Pokemon-based draw, but since it wastes YOUR Abilities as well...

...you make sure it is the kind of draw Ability you can use before you play your Supporter.

The card isn't blatantly overpowered, but I think it has some real potential.

It will see play due to VS seeker. So you can just play it as a 1-of tech and search it out at the time it is required.

This card is interesting, there are a lot of options for it while simultaneously not a lot of people want to utilize it. A FA of this would be fantastic but there is no room in Bandit Ring for one unfortunately.

How the hell are people not seeing the potential of this card?

If the metagame goes in the direction I think it will, I can easily see this being like Lysandre and having 2 in any deck.

It's a neat card. I'd say it's a good one-of in most decks. Decks that are EX-heavy or have little to no abilities will probably add two or maybe even three of this card.

It is a 97+ card set!
That means two spots left after the shiny's for Ace Trainer en Hex Maniac.

I think that the shiny's will be secret rares in the english set and come after the Full Art Supporters, but in the japanese set it is slightly different.

And I guess two secret trainers as well!

Is this card a reprint of Mesprit from legends awakened?
A not very used card, but when you played Mesprit from your hand onto your bench you shut off all of your opponents poke-powers for 1 turn. How do I remember this card... It was in Jwittz's Profit raps he used to do at the start of each of his videos.

Hmmm. Not an awful card, though it's getting a little dull seeing this effect over and over. I imagine it'd be a one-of in some decks, though probably not in Item-lock decks (except Toad). The thought of the opponent scooping up Shaymin-EX with Sky Return then being locked by this is pretty amusing.

Could also potentially be used as anti-Rayquaza tech to shut down Altaria/Ninetails.

If vileplume becomes a huge problem or if abilities become super prevalent in the game I could see a deck that ran 4 of these and slurpuffs for card draw and using then reusing this with vs seeker and or pal pad so their deck would be completely useless If they ran shaymin trevenant or vileplume (and whatever that will be combined with). It seems like it could work but probably wouldn't be teir 1.

The shiny's are listed as secret rares for the Japan set as well, which means the FA supporters have to come before them in numbers, but all of the other EX Pokemon take up slots 82-92, before shiny Kyogre, Groudon and Rayquaza come in at 93-95. There is 0.01% chance that FA supporters will be included after the secret rares so, there just isn't the room. That 97+ card set announcement must have been changed.

I think you're wrong. Pokemon have always come before trainers. And all full arts are SR in Japan. So it is logical that the shiny full arts follow the normal full art Pokemon and then the trainers. And there are still two spots left. Seriously, that is for the supporters!! No doubt about that. Pokemon company already knows what is in the set so they wouldn't advertise the wrong amount of cards!

This is a very bad card ! There's already many ways and many cards to lock abilities and some of them are better than this one !

Well, let's look at some of the options in XY-on...

-Arbok XY shuts off Abilities with an attack, but does very low damage and only applies to the Defending Pokemon, meaning it can be countered with something as simple as an Escape Rope.
-Wobbuffet PHF shuts off Abilities on an Ability, but it can be countered with a single Lysandre and it can't turn off Psychic Abilities like Trevenant XY and Crobat PHF.
-Silent Lab PRC shuts off Abilities on Basics, but can be Stadium-countered.

Hex Maniac is the only card so far in XY-on that shuts off all Abilities and can't be countered until it wears off.

Good back up to shutting down Shaymin-EX decks if you don't draw Silent Lab or lose all of them in the stadium war.

This could be night march's answer for aegislash ex, by stopping the ability for a turn leading to a knock out.

I see Hex Maniac being used for temporary disruption; competing for space mostly with cards like Xerosic and Team Flare Grunt (and perhaps this set's Ace Trainer... I guess we'll have to wait and see how people adopt that card once N rotates).

Xerosic sets your opponent back on one Special Energy attachment (if you're not using it to remove Head Ringers) and works well in a few decks as a 1-of. TFG does a similar thing with the active and any energy type.

Hex Maniac can stop your opponents' progress momentarily by not allowing them to Metal Link energy back onto their Dialga, making their Shaymins, Bats, Crawdaunts, etc. useless for a turn (bad if they rely on them too much), as well as affecting your opponents if they rely on things like Swampert PRC.

It can also give you a momentary advantage by blocking Safeguard-type effects like Aegislash, Beautifly ROS, Pyroar, or whatever that ability on Giratina-EX may be. When you look at it like that, it can be seen as being similar to Lysandre in that it can grab you an unexpected KO.

I also liked that comment about using it to let Hawlucha to hit for weakness! I'm sure there's stuff that we haven't thought of or that will come out in the future that will make having a couple of copies of this tucked away worth it. The potential is definitely there and I can't wait for Saturday :O. Bandit Ring leaks and E3 together in one week is going to be exciting!

(And so concludes my official first post on Pokebeach, and first comment on anything TCG related anywhere online!)
