Hey, I was just watching "Can't Beat The Heat" on the official website. Its the one where Ash fights Gary in the Johto League. He sends out Arcanine first, Ash pits Snorlax against him.


Gary: Arcanine! Use Take Down!

Arcanine: *charges forward* Rehhr!!


Ash: Snorlax! Use Body Slam!

Snorlax: Snore!

Gary: Dodge it and use Fire Spin

Arcanine: *Shifts away, in the middle of Take Down, and dodges, then uses Fire Spin*

Seriously you guys. What a riot!

I've been recently rewatching the original season, and there are definitely some things that bother me, like a sleeping pokémon being treated as if it were fainted. If that were true, sleep powder would be the most broken move. Also, cases where one persons Pokémon uses move after move after move and the other Pokémon doesn't do a single thing. >_> And agility being used in ways that make the other Pokémon confused or have lowered accuracy; dudes, agility just raises speed, that is all.

In conclusion, the anime is silly. But they do get a certain about of storytelling license. If the anime followed all the rules of the games, it would get boring pretty quickly.

One complaint I have is Electric-type moves affecting Ground types. We've seen Pikachu do that at least once every series except for the Best Wishes! Series.

Examples
Kanto: Pikachu VS Brock's Onix
Johto: Pikachu VS Jasmine's Steelix
Hoenn: Pikachu VS Roxanne's Geodude
Sinnoh: Pikachu VS Roark's Onix

At least in the BW Series the writers finally realized that mistake.

My other complaint is that Thunder Armor Ash used with Pikachu and Swellow in their Gym Battle VS Tate & Liza. That was probably the silliest thing the writers could've thought of.

Another thing I can think of is how could Ash's Corphish and Swellow survive that Fire and Water combo Tucker made? I mean, come on! Corphish and Swellow are like, Pokémon you would never use in a Frontier match!

Aim for the horn!

Some things that I don't like is when 1st stage mons are able to beat fully evolved ones. Sure, it's possible ingame with training, but in the anime sometimes its like "Pikachu! Use Thunderbolt! *Magmortar fainted!*"

I don't really like it when they don't apply type matchup in the anime. Since B/W have slightly fixed this, I'm hoping that XY anime will fully incorporate type matchup in all battles.

I actually rather like that they let unevolved Pokémon be stronger in the anime than they can be in the games. Bellsprout is one of my favourite Pokémon, but I never use it in game because it is super weak and I don't really care for its evolved forms. So, you can believe that one of my favourite episodes is Fourth Round Rumble in the first season, with Bellsprout kicking the crap out of everything. So cool.

That said, Ash's Pikachu is kind of ridiculous.

You do realize Ash only wins via the most random strategies that don't involve attacks alone and that the game is not the same as the anime right? I hate how OP status moves, Psychic attacks, and Ghost-type Pokemon are.

In the games, it can be expected that certain rules are kept consistent, to keep the gameplay from getting too confusing. But if the anime wants to say that a Rhydon's horn is a weak point to electricity, why can't it? If Arcanine's gonna dodge a Body Slam in the middle of a Take Down, let it. If the anime was just like the games...
"Ok Pikachu use Thunderbolt on Ursaring."
-Pikachu uses Tbolt, Ursaring does nothing-
"Golly, that seemed to take out a whole third of Ursaring's health. Ursaring, use Slash."
-Ursaring slashes Pikachu, who just stands there and takes it-

It would be sssSOOOO boring. The only justification I can see for the anime breaking the rules is when it breaks its own rules, such as an Electric attack affecting Golem in one episode but not another.

Hahaha, I remember that episode! The Fourth Round Rumble has got to be one of my favorite episodes because of that Bellsprout! Like you mentioned, it was like, grabbing its opponents and hilariously slamming them to the ground. I was laughing the whole time watching it! :D

The episode where Ash fights Tucker is my favorite episode in the entire series. I love double battles. Anime-style battling is legit, but I wouldn't want them to carry it over to the games.

I think it makes sense that the anime is different from the games in many ways. If there were "damage calculators" and "levels" in the anime it would be strange and boring. I like that they use other types of strategies in the anime. It is nice to see them as "actual living beings" that draw power from their emotions too. I do dislike the inconsistency in the anime regarding type effectiveness though..

I don't mind when the anime breaks game rules, I just hate when they do it in an illogical way

For example, here's some logical ones:
Poison tail on metagross: Metagross can't be poisoned but the physical hit of a tail would still hurt, not a lot though
Thunderpunch on Gliscor: I never really understood gliscor's ground-typing but the physical punch from an electabuzz would still hurt it.
Tackle on Gengar: Gengar probably doesn't stay intangible forever

Illogical ones:
Falseswipe to knock out Heracross: lol wut
Thunderbolt on Rhydon: Never made sense in the slightest, rhydon even has the ability lightning rod which I imagine is his horn

Some things are pretty cool. But some are a bit stupid.

Bulbasaur matching a Meganium.
Charizard losing to Totodile, if i'm not mistaken.
Blastoise losing to Pikachu.
Cindaquil giving Venusaur a lot of trouble.
Heracross taking a Fire Blast like nothing, and beating Magmar easily.

I didn't find cool that Charizard beating a legendary Pokemon like Articuno. This is silly. However, i admit the fight was great.

And of course, Pikachu beating even Dragonite but losing to a Meowth...

I don't remember more.

Maybe they have levels, but we just don't know it that's how some Pokemon are able to beat others easily, such as Heracross being lvl. 60 and the magmar lvl 30 bam heracross can easily beat magmar. Its just like if we took the level of the games buy still gain experience.... I am not good at explaining this,but hope you get message :D

Yes ground types taking damage from electric, come on, but some things do make sense like scyther sword dance in the fight with bugsy, made a air vortex which made flamethrower not be able to hit scyther :p, trolling to extremes :D
 
In either the first Hoenn or last Johto episode Meowth is arguing with a Haunter, gets mad, and used furry swipes on it and it has no effect. Then Haunter proceeds to use Night Shade and damage Meowth. Of all the stunts they pull in the Anime, this is the one I have never forgotten about and bothers me the most for some reason.
 
Um to earlier posts saying levels might be in the show but we can't tell if I remember correctly in orange islands or johto either brock or tracy mentions charizard being a lower LEVEL. It is one of the few level references in the show.
 
In the Hoenn region shadow ball hits Skitty. If the Pokémon use psychic or confusion on the pokémon they are controlled by the opponent. Also if used on a move the attack gets sent back (ex. fire spin get sent back by psychic) (? about confusion) The Pokémon don't have levels, they evolve randomly. Some Pokémon also refuse to evolve (Bulbasaur) and think that's it...

Is it just me, or shia afdasdaffg would make a very believable ash?
Also, pikachu is 2 stories tall and pees on prof. oak. Then blows up. Pikachu. And oak. And the pee.
And everybody has boobs. even james. Oh wait, that already happened... And all the boobs blow up, too.

I think it is fine that the anime breaks the rules. I mean it is an anime and it keeps it interesting. Now games on the other had need rules....or it just don`t work.
