RE: Your favorite deck
Hmm.... I've really enjoyed a lot of decks that I played in the past. A few of my favorites would be:
Magtran:
Magmortar Lv.X +
Heatran Lv.X; My first semi-competitive deck. I really liked it because of the pure synergy between the two cards with the discard AND the burn. I also didn't have any Claydols at the time, so I played
Areodactyl MD instead to counter the Claydols that everyone else was using. Fun fact: this was the deck I used to get my very first bubble. >_>
Blaziken PL variants:
Blaziken PL +
Blaziken FB Lv.X/Heatran Lv.X. I used both of these variants to decent amounts of success. First, I used Blaziken with Heatran Lv.X and it actually countered a lot of Gengar decks beautifully by hitting them for 100 and finishing them off with the burn to avoid Fainting Spell (even with Nidoqueen in play). I mostly enjoyed the deck because Heatran Lv.X was simply one of my favorite cards back then and I really enjoyed the raw power of it combined with different fire types. The other variant I used was with Blaziken FB Lv.X. This deck focused much more on the burn; the main attack was Clutch as opposed to Fire Spin. My favorite thing about using this deck was probably being able to bring up a Torchic and deal 50 damage for 0 energy.
Blazechomp (yes, more Blaziken): Blaziken FB Lv.X +
Garchomp C Lv.X. Just an SP deck really. I used Blaziken instead of Luxray because I couldn't afford Luxrays. This deck was fun because I liked the SP playstyle; The Cyrus engine, the focus on basics (this was actually not common in non-SP decks back then), and the wide variety of techs I could use such as Promocroak,
Dragonite FB, and
Ambipom G.
BOOM:
Forretress LA +
Emboar BW; The only deck I ever won a tournament with. I think I'll share a little story with you guys. When I decided to build this deck, I was looking for Pinecos from LA (because they had 1 retreat), and I was only able to find one of the two that I needed. I called up my friend to ask him if he had any, and when I asked him, he just laughed. And laughed. He said he couldn't see how a Pineco could possibly help me win a game. I managed to find another Pineco LA, and I proceded to win 2 of the 3 Battle Roads that I went to (beating him in swiss at one of them).
The moral of the story is: Never underestimate a Pineco. I had great fun with the deck's sheer power and brokenness, and it really was one of a kind. I sure haven't seen anything like it before or since then.
Looking back on it now, I guess fire has always been my favorite type. Thanks for reading this unnecessarily long post (assuming actually read the whole thing that is)!
