The boat rocked insanely, almost throwing the Pokémon over its metal rails. The blue-colored, white and orange-finned mudpuppy enjoyed the waves, but the Pink, almost mythological creature held on tightly to the railing as the water raged. The small, white and yellow Pokémon simply floated around the boat carelessly, singing a carol.
It was a bright day, simply with a high tide. Jirachi, Espeon and Mudkip’s human owner, Mark, had decided to go fishing, and he had taken his Pokémon with him. So far, he had caught nothing but Luvdisc, and was now extremely frustrated with the lack of fish in his current area.
Mudkip wanted desperately to go swimming, but Mark had forbidden it, afraid of the possibility of Sharpedos in the water. Mark was a very protective owner, but nothing within his ability could help what was about to happen to the three Pokémon next.
Sighing, Mark cast out another line, using his last caterpie as bait. He started when he felt a large tug on the line, and quickly stood up to fight the large fish. As he tugged at the line, the boat began to rock more and more. Now, even Mudkip began to hang on to the rail, though Jirachi continued to simply float around, almost finished with his carol.
Without warning, the humongous fish burst out of the water, and everyone on the boat paused to stare at it in awe. As soon as it jumped out, the waves began to die down. Then, the gigantic wonder flew towards the boat. Jirachi was taken by surprise when the red scales impacted his body as he was holding the last note of his carol, and he fell, off of the boat and into the waters.
Mark ran over to the edge of the boat, calling Jirachi’s name, but it was too late. One of his beloved Pokémon was gone. Mark continued to cry out hopelessly as the giant he had caught slithered over to Mudkip and Espeon. Mudkip cried out in fear, while Espeon began charging a Psybeam attack. Unfortunately, before either could complete their reaction, the monster whacked its tail against them, and they flew off the boat and into the water.
Mark turned around and furiously dug the hook of his line into the beast’s neck. As it cried out in pain, he kicked it one, two, three times. Its final cry was a short one, as it ran out of breath and fell on the floor of the boat, dead. Mark climbed up to the front of the boat and took a good look at the cause of his pain, and was astonished by what he saw.
The infamous Red Gyarados was lying in his boat, dead. He had caught not only the cause of his pain, but the cause of pain in the entire Johto region. Had he still had his Pokémon, he would’ve been whooping and cheering, crying out in joy. But he wasn’t. There was no one left to share the glory with. His only friends were gone.
