'Blue Impact' / 'Red Flash' Japan's XY8 Sets, Next Set Block Titled 'XY: BREAK!'

Could it not just Break the rules of evolution? i.e. Allow Pokemon to evolve first turn/after already evolving?

My other initial thought is breaking an evolution- as in going away. Couple ideas on this:
1- When you knock out a break evolution, just the evolution goes away- no prize is drawn. You will still need to destroy the Lv.1 or Basic that was just revealed.

2- It is an ability that activates by discarding the evolution. Break: Heal all damage from this pokemon and swap it with a pokemon on the bench.

With BREAK evolution they are tons of possibilities TPC could do to make evolution cards much more viable (could increase the speed, or damage, or give unique effects similar to those of ancient traits). I really look forward to this mechanic.

Also, looking very forward to Luxray Break, Luxray is one of my favorite Pokemon and if this card is anything like Luxray GL (and Lv.X) than that would be the cherry on top.

Side note: My friends and I did a Pokemon/D&D game awhile back where I had written a story based around a bad guy team called Team Break and they were a corrupt mining organization seeking Regirock. Very strange to see Pokemon BREAK as an official name now for me.

I guess we wont see Mawile, Aerodactyl, Luxray until our January set. And our much better named version of Impact/Flash will probably get Emboar and Togekiss. That or we are stocked for boxes and premium collections for quite some time.

I feel that Pokemon Break are the replacements of Ancient Trait Pokemon and will hold the same rarity. Some will be rare, some rare holos, but not up at the same level as Pokemon-EX.

I don;t know, they usual wait until the start of a new geneation to start scrapping mechanics/gimmicks (see: the original EXs, Delta Species, Stars, Legend, Lv.X, Prime, Ace Specs). And Generation 3 had two additonal gimmicks run concurrently with exs (The Delta Species ad stars) and Generation 4 also had multiple gimmicks at the same time as well

OMFG I LUV LUXRAY

also break evolution could in fact be cards that buff non EX or maybe even cards that are immune to EX

I was really hoping they'd finally get rid of these STUPD EXES, WE DIDN'T NEED THEM AGAIN, THEY SHOULD HAVE STAYED AND DIED IN THE R/S/E ERA, THE GAME ISN'T BALANCED AS LONG AS THEY STAY AROUND, GIVE STAGE 2S A CHANCE.

Sorry about that. I wonder what "Break" could mean...

And while we're at it, should we ask them to deep six the FA cads as well?

I don't think the Break cards will be Basics of Stage Pokemon. Namely because, in an already Basic-heavy format, doing so would just kill Stages even further.

If anything I think they might be like Lv.X (as many others have said), and/or they will have some blatant anti-EX feature like a universal non-ability Safeguard.

Not entirely true. Delta Species started relatively close to the end of Gen. 3 with EX Delta Species. The Japanese releases for the Delta Species sets make a bit more sense than the English releases, but it still came in the middle of both the 3rd Gen. and also that specific TCG set (the PCG era). Lv. X were scrapped before the end of Gen 4 and replaced with Primes for the HGSS set; true for both English and Japanese. Even in more recent times, EXes started partway through Gen. 5, coming in BW3 for Japan and the 4th BW set in English. ACE SPECs also started later in Gen. 5 and didn't even last for the whole thing. Team Flare Gear was short-lived for only a single set in Gen 6. Not to mention the various Owner's Pokémon mechanics that have come and gone in the middle of sets.

Another thing to mention is that even though this is still "Gen. 6" this will still constitute a new set block of the TCG. No longer with the cards (in Japan, that is), but marked with XY#, but they will restart with a new numbering system. This is more or less the equivalent of how HGSS started its own block separate from the DPPt block.

At this point, it's hard to guess what will be staying and what will be leaving and what will be new. Except EXes, of course, since we've already had that confirmed. :p

I see, I have a feeling that the introduction with this block would coincide with the Rotation, so I wonder how many packs will be rotated out, just 3 (Boundaries Crossed to Plasma Freeze) or the Entire BW sets that haven't been rotated (Boundaries Crossed to Legendary Treasures) and are the sets that are rotated out always sets released in the first "year" after the rotation or is there a different pattern (probably the latter, since the BW packs predated the upcoming rotation)?

TCG set blocks are completely different from competitive modified format rotation, so I'm not sure what bearing that has or what you're asking. We've gotten a lot of strong hints that the new rotation will be XY-on, but it won't be confirmed until closer to Worlds. The modified format rotation decision is always handled on a case by case basis for each year and a lot of different factors weigh into where the rotation cut-off is decided to fall.

Yes. Wastes of cardboard and foil.
how could you hate such an awesome type of card ( artwork wise) as full arts. With the introduction of the FA it opened up so many new and exciting doors for depicting our favortie pokemon. The artwork on the full arts is amazing , not to mention the texture ads so much more appeal as opposed to a regular holofoil card. How could you be mad about getting more of somthing lol i could understand from a competitive point of view as to why some dislike ex's , but from a collector and creative point of view there is nothing to hate.
thats like saying you would prefer a honda civic over a Lamborghini lol

Perhaps the Break Evolution is similar to Pokemon L.V. X. in a way by making them stronger or maybe it can give Raichu Break a 20+ Health Boost for each energy attached to it or something like that.

I'm wondering why you need the pre-evolution. Maybe this Break card is something you play onto the pre-evolution, letting you evolve into a Pokemon with more power?

So you can't, for example, use Archie's Ace to get a Swampert then play a Break onto it; you would have to play the Break onto the pre-evolution.
