Competitive Movesets and Metagame: VGC edition.

Alright, today is (or was for some) the day of VGC Regionals. Since I wasn't able to attend, what sort of things did you face, how did you handle them, and what would you guys suggest for those going to Nats (like myself)? Are there any seriously "unexpected" sets that people used that you think would have potential at Nats, since seeing the same common thing over and over again gets old after a while.

And yeah, I know it's been over two weeks, but I'm not about to let this thread die.

I went 5-3 in the Southeast, finished 52nd, and had one friend go 5-3 and finish 40th. I had another friend go 6-2 and finish 9th with the team I made him. There was a Iron Ball Gengar using Trick Room there, and an Abomasnow/Milotic lead where Milotic just kept spamming Blizzard. I lost twice to teams with Cresselia, and once because my Rotom missed his Tyranitar with Will-O-Wisp which would've lowered its attack enough to allow Togekiss to survive Rock Slide.

Here is something interesting I saw
Sceptile @ White Herb
Don't know his EV spreads.
Leaf Storm
Acrobatics
??? (Ko'd it)
???(Ko'd it)
It was a cool strategy, but it didn't even do 1/2 to my Max HP Scrafty with OK defensive IVs. I also saw a few RNG'd people who I lost to 2 (the girl I battled las round RNGd and had 2/3 the same team as me)and beat 1. the RNG teams tend to be Hyper-offense... Probably just in it to win it.
Surprisingly, I only battled 2 Hitmontops. 1 guy didn't even use it. I didn't battle a single Politoed. My friend battle this one guy with Adaptability Porygon-Z wtih Hyper Beam and Trick Room paired with Amoongus who would Spore in the trick room and Rage Powder on the recharge turn of Hyper Beam.

What is this, I don't even...

This set intrigues me. If it was an Unburden Sceptile (rare in the US), then the set would've been better. Another reason this piques my interest is the fact that there are a few other mons that can use this:

Infernape (Fire Gem+Overheat+Acrobatics)
Blaziken (Fire Gem+Overheat+Acrobatics)
Simisage (Grass Gem+Leaf Storm+Acrobatics) (Simisage really isn't that great anyways)

Perhaps maybe I could utalize this...

and once because my Rotom missed his Tyranitar with Will-O-Wisp which would've lowered its attack enough to allow Togekiss to survive Rock Slide.

Hax at its best.

The Porygon Z guy was pretty good. I aksed him at the end what his record was and he won 4 and lost 3. He also had a hitmonchan on his team.It was probably foresight for ghosts to hit them with Hyper Beam, But I didn't battle him, my friend did.

Hope it proves effective! Blaziken's mixed capabilities may be the best option.

Alright, almost another two months until Nats., and just curious, what sort of tricks do people have up their sleeves?

Wheheheh... They shall remain secret (of course Red Striker knows from our practice battle) until I test them. But seriously, I have no relative clue what I will use. Maybe a gimmick, maybe some random team i make up. I know one thing for sure: It will not involve anything Metagame.:p

^ That, sir, was possibally the hardest lead I've seen yet. It is out of the ordinary, and I don't think at first glance of team prevew that it would be scouted. I sure as heck didn't see it coming (I still won, though). :)

Anyone else? I know we have a bigger VGC community on the Beach than this.

I've came up with even more outrageous things that I need to test against someone from here sometime (if they swear not to tell about them), but that'll have to wait until at least tomorrow. And we do have at least Luxray:D too, wherever he is.:p

I'd like to battle one of you two. I'd have to re-adjust my team, though. I've been playing singles lately.I already have Pokeplayer's FC registered.

Alright, this thread needs some serious revival. This goes for reason, too. It's May. What come after May? June. And what's in June? NATS.! Okay guys, start the disscussion on what you think will be in top play (that isn't already) by the time the big event hits. For example, I've noticed higher usage of Scarf Hydreigon and Salamence lately. Could these be common threats that everyone will need to look for? Also, discuss some of the tricks you might have up your sleeve. I see that didn't get much discussion last time.

I've seen Cradily start to pick up usage with Storm Drain. That's all I've really noticed. Hitmontop is so good no one uses it LOL. Its a threat still, though. I haven't played VGC in a while(Forgot to sign up for the Spring friendly) so this is just from browsing around the Battle Videos in the Terminal.

I despise Hitmontop, and so far in the Spring Friendly I'm doing OK. I'm using a modified version of my 5-3 VGC team.
