OU: Strategy Counter that Pokemon (Round 30)

RE: Counter that Pokemon (Round 13)

Uralya has won 4 points for his counter! /shock Nothing Terrakion has hurts Slowbro so much that it can't recover in time.

Chaos Jackal has won 1 point for his counter. As you said, Garchomp isn't left in great shape after switching in, but it does counter well if you have no other options.

One Approved has won 2 points for his counter. Earthquake is actually an OHKO thanks to Defense drop.

Pride has won 1 point for his counter. The relevant calc here isn't Psychic, but Giga Drain. Still a 2HKO, but the healing is necessary for Celebi to survive the third SE. Unfortunately, you're still left in red with limited healing options.

Equinox has won 0 points for his counter. Pride's reasoning holds true, you are KO'd before you even pull off a move.

Round 14
282.gif

Gardevoir @ Gardevoirite
Ability: Trace
EVs: 24 Def / 232 SpA / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
- Hyper Voice
- Psyshock
- Focus Blast
- Substitute

Round ends 1/5.

RE: Counter that Pokemon (Round 14)

I still think I deserve two points! But I caused someone else to get 0 so I'll take it :3

Jirachi @ Leftovers
Ability: Serene Grace
EVs: 252 HP / 220 Spd / 36 Spe
Careful Nature
- Iron Head
- Wish
- Protect
- Thunder Wave / -INSERT SUPPORT MOVE HERE-

Dunno what its stats look like but Jirachi is good against most special attackers. Takes 28.2 - 33.4% from Focus Blast which is a 4hko while Jirachi has Wish / Protect to heal itself to keep it safe. Iron Head has a chance to straight up OHKO and better-then-not if Gardevoir took SR damage and 100% ohkos if it used Substitute earlier. Seems good enough for me but I'm sure some other steels fair pretty well too (Scizor, Metagross) but I just like Jirachi :3

RE: Counter that Pokemon (Round 14)

victini.gif

Victini @ Leftovers
Ability: Victory Star
EVs: 96 HP / 252 Atk / 160 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Bolt Strike
- Substitute
- V-create
- Power-Up Punch

232 SpA Pixilate Mega Gardevoir Hyper Voice vs. 96 HP / 0 SpD Victini: 113-133 (30.9 - 36.4%) -- guaranteed 3HKO after Stealth Rock and Leftovers recovery

252+ Atk Victini V-create vs. 0 HP / 24 Def Mega Gardevoir: 369-435 (133.2 - 157%) -- guaranteed OHKO

The stallbreaker set works even better because it runs 248 HP, but I went with this one because I'm too lazy to figure out the right amount of EVs for Atk, Def, and Spe

RE: Counter that Pokemon (Round 14)

scizor-mega.gif
@ Scizorite
Ability: Light Metal
EVs: 248 HP / 96 Atk / 164 SpD
Adamant Nature
- Roost
- U-turn
- Bullet Punch
- Knock Off

Mega Scizor, using a Roost + 3 Attacks set that serves as great utility on balanced and some offensive teams, is able to combat Mega Gardevoir lacking Will-o-Wisp reliably. It can switch into any attack that Gardevoir launches even in regular forme and never be 2HKOd even when factoring in Stealth Rocks. It can stall out with Roost and also use a Bullet Punch to OHKO Gardevoir whenever it feels like.

96+ Atk Technician Mega Scizor Bullet Punch vs. 0 HP / 24 Def Gardevoir: 300-354 (108.3 - 127.7%) -- guaranteed OHKO
232 SpA Gardevoir Focus Blast vs. 248 HP / 164 SpD Mega Scizor: 107-127 (31.1 - 37%) -- guaranteed 3HKO after Stealth Rock
232 SpA Gardevoir Focus Blast vs. 248 HP / 164 SpD Scizor: 125-148 (36.4 - 43.1%) -- guaranteed 3HKO after Stealth Rock
232 SpA Gardevoir Hyper Voice vs. 248 HP / 164 SpD Scizor: 47-55 (13.7 - 16%) -- possible 6HKO after Stealth Rock
232 SpA Gardevoir Psyshock vs. 248 HP / 0 Def Scizor: 63-74 (18.3 - 21.5%) -- guaranteed 5HKO after Stealth Rock

RE: Counter that Pokemon (Round 14)

metagross.gif

Metagross @ Metagrossite
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Meteor Mash
- Earthquake
- Zen Headbutt
- Bullet Punch

232 SpA Mega Gardevoir Focus Blast vs. 0 HP / 4 SpD Metagross: 168-198 (55.8 - 65.7%) -- guaranteed 2HKO
252+ Atk Tough Claws Metagross Bullet Punch vs. 0 HP / 24 Def Mega Gardevoir: 284-336 (102.5 - 121.2%) -- guaranteed OHKO

Note that Focus Blast is calculated with vanilla Metagross' defenses, the damage is lower in Mega forme (supposing Gardevoir use Substitute). Either way, Bullet Punch OHKOes, or breaks the Sub and KOes afterwards.

RE: Counter that Pokemon (Round 14)

venusaur-mega.gif

Venusaur @ Venusaurite
EVs: 252 HP / 240 Def / 16 Spe
Bold Nature
- Giga Drain
- Sludge Bomb
- Synthesis
- Sleep Powder

0 SpA Mega Venusaur Giga Drain vs. 0 HP / 0 SpD Mega Gardevoir: 75-88 (27 - 31.7%) -- guaranteed 4HKO
0 SpA Mega Venusaur Sludge Bomb vs. 0 HP / 0 SpD Mega Gardevoir: 180-212 (64.9 - 76.5%) -- guaranteed 2HKO

232 SpA Pixilate Mega Gardevoir Hyper Voice vs. 252 HP / 0 SpD Mega Venusaur: 96-114 (26.3 - 31.3%) -- 32.3% chance to 3HKO after Stealth Rock
232 SpA Mega Gardevoir Psyshock vs. 252 HP / 240+ Def Mega Venusaur: 194-230 (53.2 - 63.1%) -- guaranteed 2HKO after Stealth Rock
232 SpA Mega Gardevoir Hidden Power Ground vs. 252 HP / 0 SpD Mega Venusaur: 67-79 (18.4 - 21.7%) -- guaranteed 5HKO after Stealth Rock

You can switch out Sleep Powder for Leech Seed, to gain some HP every turn. Two Sludge Bombs will take out the Gardevoir, but there's Giga Drain and Synthesis to heal Venusaur as well.

RE: Counter that Pokemon (Round 14)

Pride has won 4 points for his counter! Nothing Gardevoir has scratches Jirachi, while it delivers a guaranteed 2HKO (12.5% chance to OHKO) in return.

Cinersa has won 2 points for his counter.

Uralya has won 2 points for his counter.

Chaos Jackal has won 2 points for his counter.

CuriousCleffa has won 0 points for his counter. Unfortunately, Psyshock is a 2HKO, and takes out Venusaur before you can do anything to it.

Round 15
534.gif

Conkeldurr @ Assault Vest
Ability: Guts
EVs: 252 Atk / 236 SpD / 20 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Drain Punch
- Mach Punch
- Ice Punch
- Stone Edge

Round ends 1/12.

RE: Counter that Pokemon (Round 14)

slowbro.gif

Slowbro @ Leftovers
Ability: Regenerator
EVs: 252 HP / 232 Def / 24 SpD
Bold Nature
- Scald
- Psyshock
- Slack Off
- Thunder Wave

252+ Atk Conkeldurr Stone Edge vs. 252 HP / 232+ Def Slowbro: 87-103 (22 - 26.1%) -- possible 5HKO after Leftovers recovery

0 SpA Slowbro Psyshock vs. 0 HP / 0 Def Conkeldurr: 182-216 (51.8 - 61.5%) -- guaranteed 2HKO

Don't use Stone Edge, kids. Yado yado

RE: Counter that Pokemon (Round 14)

azumarill.gif

Azumarill @ Sitrus Berry
Ability: Huge Power
EVs: 92 HP / 252 Atk / 164 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Belly Drum
- Aqua Jet
- Play Rough
- Superpower

252+ Atk Huge Power Azumarill Play Rough vs. 0 HP / 4 Def Conkeldurr: 372-440 (105.9 - 125.3%) -- guaranteed OHKO

252+ Atk Conkeldurr Stone Edge vs. 92 HP / 0 Def Azumarill: 153-180 (42 - 49.4%) -- 85.9% chance to 2HKO after Stealth Rock

Add in the Sitrus Berry, and Azu takes just a bit of damage.

RE: Counter that Pokemon (Round 15)

Because its such a hilariously bad Pokemon I'm so tempted to post Granbull since it takes at most 19.2 - 22.9% from Stone Edge and easily 2hkos with Play Rough. But alas...

Mew @ Leftovers
Ability: Synchronize
Evs: 252 HP / 104 Def / 152 Spe
Bold Nature
- Taunt
- Softboiled
- Will-O-Wisp
- Psychic

Stone Edge deals a bit (28.4 - 33.6%) but is a 4hko. Every other move deals irrelevant damage. And Mew's Psychic isn't anything to write home about but 38.1 - 46.1% is an easy 3hko to a Pokemon that cannot recover HP outside of Drain Punch. So Mew is pretty boss. Not Slowbro boss status but pretty good yo. Too bad Mew can't use WoW in this scenario but whatever.

RE: Counter that Pokemon (Round 15)

[animate]skarmory[/animate]
Skarmory @leftovers
Trait: sturdy
Impish nature
252 HP/252 Def/4 SpDef
~Brave Bird
~Roost
~Whirlwind
~Spikes

On mobile so no calcs but I figured the former best physical wall on the game would be a decent counter

RE: Counter that Pokemon (Round 15)

Oh, I did forget about this.

Cinersa has won 4 points for his counter.

Chaos Jackal has won 2 points for his counter.

Pride has won 2 points for his counter.

One Approved has won 2 points for his counter.

Round 16
145.gif

Zapdos @ Leftovers
Ability: Pressure
EVs: 252 HP / 168 Def / 68 SpA / 20 Spe
Modest Nature
- Thunderbolt
- Defog
- Roost
- Heat Wave

Round ends 1/19.

RE: Counter that Pokemon (Round 16)

charizard-mega-x.gif

Charizard @ Charizardite X
Ability: Blaze
EVs: 144 HP / 252 Atk / 112 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Dragon Dance
- Dragon Claw
- Flare Blitz
- Roost

68 SpA Zapdos Thunderbolt vs. 144 HP / 0 SpD Mega Charizard X: 72-84 (21.6 - 25.2%) -- 0.2% chance to 3HKO after Stealth Rock

252+ Atk Tough Claws Mega Charizard X Flare Blitz vs. 252 HP / 168+ Def Zapdos: 249-294 (64.8 - 76.5%) -- guaranteed 2HKO after Leftovers recovery

However, Zapdos is total set-up bait for Charizard X, and you do even more damage if you have SR up.

RE: Counter that Pokemon (Round 16)

Isn't Charizard supposed to be in vanilla forme when it comes in?

Anyway...

altaria.gif

Altaria @ Altariaite
Ability: Natural Cure
EVs: 64 HP / 192 Atk / 252 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Dragon Dance
- Return
- Earthquake
- Roost

68 SpA Zapdos Thunderbolt vs. 64 HP / 0 SpD Altaria: 120-142 (39 - 46.2%) -- guaranteed 2HKO after Stealth Rock

68 SpA Zapdos Thunderbolt vs. 64 HP / 0 SpD Altaria: 60-71 (19.5 - 23.1%) -- 14.5% chance to 4HKO after Stealth Rock

The first calculation is for vanilla Altaria, which is still Dragon/Flying. The second is for Mega Altaria, which is Dragon/Fairy. Altaria can easily shrug off the damage via Roost and set up DD on Zapdos all day. I don't think I need to provide Return calcs at +6.

RE: Counter that Pokemon (Round 16)

[animate]chansey[/animate]
Chansey @Eviolite
Trait: Natural Cure
4 HP/252 DEF/252 Sp. DEF
~Seismic Toss
~Softboiled
~Toxic
~Aromatherapy/Wish/Stealth Rock

I don't think this needs much o an explanation lol. Without sub, zapdos is vulnerable to toxic, and chansey can just softboil off any damage

RE: Counter that Pokemon (Round 16)

Cinersa has won 0 points for his counter. Normal Chari is OHKO'd after SR on the switch.

Chaos Jackal has won 4 points for his counter.

One Approved has won 2 points for his counter. May stall better than Altaria, but Altaria has the chance to set up and potentially sweep even after Zapdos is taken down.

Round 17
645-therian.gif

Landorus-Therian @ Choice Scarf
Ability: Intimidate
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Earthquake
- U-turn
- Superpower
- Stone Edge

Round ends 1/27. Moving this to Tuesday because Mondays are getting busier for me.
Calculate U-Turn's damage as if he were the only pokemon left (meaning 2/3HKOs are possible).

RE: Counter that Pokemon (Round 17)

I'm too bored to think of something better.

keldeo.gif

Keldeo @ Choice Scarf
EVs: 4 Def / 252 SpA / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
- Hydro Pump
- Scald
- Secret Sword
- Hidden Power Electric

252 SpA Keldeo Hydro Pump vs. 0 HP / 4 SpD Landorus-T: 428-506 (134.1 - 158.6%) -- guaranteed OHKO

252 Atk Landorus-T Earthquake vs. 0 HP / 0 Def Keldeo: 195-229 (60.3 - 70.8%) -- guaranteed 2HKO after Stealth Rock

RE: Counter that Pokemon (Round 17)

slowbro-mega.gif
@ Slowbronite
Ability: Regenerator
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Def / 4 SpA
Bold Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Scald
- Psyshock
- Calm Mind
- Slack Off

He's ba-ack! Mega Slowbro handles Scarf Landorus-T well even with it having U-turn on hand (having Knock Off does no better because there's no item to lose). This variant of Slowbro also can Slack Off any damage it accumulates and boost up with Calm Mind before landing an OHKO with Scald. To quote from an earlier entry of mine:
Mega Slowbro said:
There's no contest here when Mega Slowbro can wall him to the depths and back. On top of this, Slowbro is a great Pokemon in the metagame, a nice part of defensive cores and a win condition for stall teams given the right support.

252 Atk Landorus-T Earthquake vs. 252 HP / 252+ Def Slowbro: 120-142 (30.4 - 36%) -- guaranteed 3HKO after Stealth Rock
252 Atk Landorus-T U-turn vs. 252 HP / 252+ Def Slowbro: 112-134 (28.4 - 34%) -- 98.6% chance to 3HKO after Stealth Rock
252 Atk Landorus-T Stone Edge vs. 252 HP / 252+ Def Slowbro: 80-95 (20.3 - 24.1%) -- 71.8% chance to 4HKO after Stealth Rock
252 Atk Landorus-T Earthquake vs. 252 HP / 252+ Def Mega Slowbro: 84-99 (21.3 - 25.1%) -- 98.3% chance to 4HKO after Stealth Rock
252 Atk Landorus-T U-turn vs. 252 HP / 252+ Def Mega Slowbro: 78-94 (19.7 - 23.8%) -- 45.9% chance to 4HKO after Stealth Rock
4 SpA Mega Slowbro Scald vs. 0 HP / 4 SpD Landorus-T: 260-308 (81.5 - 96.5%) -- guaranteed 2HKO
+1 4 SpA Slowbro Mega Scald vs. 0 HP / 4 SpD Landorus-T: 390-458 (122.2 - 143.5%) -- guaranteed OHKO

RE: Counter that Pokemon (Round 17)

gliscor.gif

Gliscor @ Toxic Orb
Ability: Poison Heal
EVs: 244 HP / 192 SpD / 72 Spe
Careful Nature
- Earthquake
- Roost
- Knock Off
- Toxic

252 Atk Landorus-T Stone Edge vs. 244 HP / 0 Def Gliscor: 98-116 (27.8 - 32.9%) -- possible 5HKO after Poison Heal

0 Atk Gliscor Knock Off (97.5 BP) vs. 0 HP / 0 Def Landorus-T: 49-58 (15.3 - 18.1%) -- possible 6HKO

But Gliscor has Roost and can use Toxic to survive and kill it faster.

0 Atk Gliscor Knock Off (97.5 BP) vs. 0 HP / 0 Def Landorus-T: 49-58 (15.3 - 18.1%) -- 98.4% chance to 4HKO after toxic damage

RE: Counter that Pokemon (Round 17)

Chaos Jackal has won 1 point for his counter. You're left with less than 40% after the switch, and if Hydro Pump were to miss, you'd be out of luck.

Uralya has won 4 points for his counter.

Cinesra has won 2 points for his counter.

Round 18
248.gif

Tyranitar @ Tyranitarite
Ability: Sand Stream
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 Def / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Dragon Dance
- Stone Edge
- Fire Punch
- Earthquake

Round ends 2/3. Remember that the weather is Sandstorm in your calculations.
