Debate! Wii vs. PS3 vs. 360

The wiis lineup is NOT great. Stop saying so! please! It's hardly even C+ acceptable!
Again, totally based on your opinion. You might not like the line up, but alot of other people who went to E3 did.

From reading around the net, this is Wii's most wanted games at launch:
-Metroid Prime 3: Corruption
-Red Steel
-Excite Truck
-Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess
-WiiSports
-Call of Duty 3 (sort of)
(Super Mario Galaxy and Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles: The Crystal Bearers are debateable)

Those are the most wanted Wii games at launch, and have expressed interest by alot of people who went to E3. That's just a fraction of Wii's launch games, and it is a great lineup in my opinion.

Hey, alright, I'll worship Wii now \o/.o.\o/.o.\o/.o.\o/.o.\o/.o.\o/

But if u ppl were going to buy a Wii, what games'd u buy, based on previews and articles and whatever, what games'd u buy?

^ err... am I allowed to say all of them?

But my top three has to be the new Zelda, Mario, and Metriod games. Although red steel looks interesting...

I think it's a shoot 'em up that also involves swords (I havent read alot about it really). So yeah, swinging the wiimote swings your sword in the game, cool stuff like that.

Agreed. NPM, you just need to stop. Abhorsen has countless times backed his claims up with facts that I (and lots of other people) can verify from either reports, interviews, or general comments from the E3 conference. Can you deny that the booth that was the busiest was the Wii's? THEY SAY IT IN THE E3 REVIEWS!!!

So apparently people are a lot more interested in the Wii than you think. You make Sony fanboys sick with your unsupported opinions and your idiotic statements. Get out.

*back on topic*

I'm interested in Wii Sports, Metroid, and Zelda as the release games. Naturally, there are others that will be coming out later, but those are the games I'll have when I get my Wii for sure.

Haha, I know Wii stole the show. This is opinion based here, not based on the populace.
You want what the populace thinks then?

Fine, here are some polls I dug up:

Free Radical Polls: http://www.frd.co.uk/poll.php (Console poll is on the left under the big poll.)
E3 Poll. How many are going for PS3? http://digitalbattle.com/2006/05/09/e3-poll-60-will-not-buy-the-ps3/

Is that enough of the populace for you? I'm sure I could find a stack more, but i'll leave it at that now.

Now, to support your arguments (if you call them arguments) then you'll need to provide facts, statistics and other information-related links to support your theories, otherwise it's all opinion based. I think i've (and some others like Alchemist) have provided enough facts... you havent given any Penguin...

I'm saying my opinion is PS3 based. I think it will do the worst in marketing because of the price. I said I don't care what the populace thinks and won't convert me. (Unless I buy both, which ain't gonna happen lol). 360 would actually be my second choice. Wii third. I won't get any for awhile. (Getting 4 Gig MP3 and DS).

I think hat Abhorsen has brought up some good points, and I agree that the Wii will outdo the PS3, but I think that the Xbox 360 will outdo the Wii.
For the basis of this, you need to look in the area of competitive gaming, which is rapidly growing. MLG (Major League Gaming) is the biggest league for competitive gaming, and it is currently looking at Halo 3 and Dead or Alive 4 as its two next-gen games- both of which reside only on the Xbox 360. In my eyes at least, this will cause a stark majority of the competitive gamers to go for the Xbox 360 over the other two consoles. However, I will concede that MLG may take Super Smash Brothers Brawl over Dead of Alive 4. If that is the case, then the 360 and the Wii will constantly be fighting for the top spot. Because the Wii may be more appealing to the average gamer than the 360 itself, but the Microsoft's wild card will still be Halo 3. If you remember, Halo 2 is by far the most played game (at least by online statistics) right now, and Halo 3 will definitely draw some attention to the 360.

However, I do not know why this debate is going on, all three will sell their share.

I don't see anything wrong with this debate. We all get to state our positions as to what consoles that we are getting, and learn more about other peoples' points of view.

See... this is my thing. Generally, a single game series, or a few individual games, in my mind, is not enough to justify buying a console. For example, there are several games for me on the PlayStation that seem interesting (MegaMan X7 and X8, *possibly* the FF series), but why buy the console if I am only going to get a few games for it? In the end, it doesn't really add up for me. The reason I have liked Nintendo consoles and games was because I could find a good number of games on it that I like. I tend to prefer fantasy / sci-fi games as opposed to shooting (except for Goldeneye), skateboarding, and fighting games (with SSB being a rare exception). It is all a matter of individual tastes.

Granted, Rare is on board with Microsoft this time around. Donkey Kong, Banjo Kazooie, Goldeneye, and Conker (some parts of it anyway), are all games that I would enjoy playing. Halo and GTA don't really interest me all that much. However, if there are enough games that I like on the 360, I may very well consider getting it.

Here is something else that I have noticed. Is it just me, or are the XBox and PlayStation consoles starting become more like entertainment PCs? You can play DVDs and do other things on them. IMO, I would rather buy a console that specializes in video games; not too many other bells and whistles. To be somewhat fair, the Wii and the DS will/already have Internet browsing capabilities, and they may eventually be headed down the same path as Sony and Microsoft (which I hope doesn't happen). Still, it seems that Sony and Microsoft's consoles are starting to become more oriented towards entertainment in general, as opposed to actual video games.

Feel free to correct me on any facts that isn't quite right.

Donkey Kong is Nintendo-owned... -_-

True, the PS3 and 360 may be more like computers than the classic videogame console, but why exactly does that matter? If they play videogames well, then what's the problem? Plus, you may find that DVD player or CD player useful at some point... I know I have. And also, just because the Wii specializes in videogames, that doesn't mean it is automatically better at it than the others.

I meant to say games similar to those, not actual releases of the games on different consoles.

The Donkey Kong series will stay with Nintendo. Rare was involved in the production of Donkey Kong Country, but the actual liscensing rights for the original Donkey Kong characters belong to Nintendo. From what I know, Rare will not be releasing any games of their own on the virtual console, which is a big let down, but not a big surprise.

Rare made Conker and Perfect Dark on the XBox consoles, but I haven't seen much more of their work. Once Christmas comes around, I will be interested in seeing what comes out on all 3 consoles. In the end, I won't be paying any money until the three consoles have been out for a while, because I want to make sure that the costs for buying a console is justified; I want to read reviews to see for myself if it is worth the money. Who knows? Maybe if there are enough games on the PS3 or the XBox360 that I am interested it, I may end up getting one. It helps to know that they are reverse-compatible.

The extra features are nice, but ultimately contribute to the cost of production for the console, and consequently, the price of the console itself. What if I already have a DVD player, or Blu-Ray? What if I want a DVD player with more capabilities than what the PS3 has? So far, there doesn't seem to be a way to get the game console alone without the entertainment center. And with the cost of the console, I would have to find at least 6 or 7 games to make it worthwhile buying.

If you put it that way, then it is perfectly justified. But when you say "I would rather buy a console that specializes in video games; not too many other bells and whistles," you make it sound like you are saying that the PS3 and Xbox 360 are bad consoles because they don't just specialize in videogames.

But also, why doesn't it work that way with the Wii? I'm sure that you would have to find plenty of games worth buying on the Wii in order to justify buying it as well.

Everybody has different needs. For people that do not have a DVD player, and want to have a nice entertainment package, the XBox and the PS consoles are the way to go. It is like ordering at a fast food place; you can get a combo meal, or you can order things individually so that everything is customized. I would rather customize my experience than get a package, but that is only limited to this specific situation, and my own opinion, of course. I recognize that the situation of wanting a gaming console only is probably limited to only a handful of gamers. Still, the cost of the consoles hurt. Even the cost of the Wii be considerable, since the Virtual Console will probably be pretty popular, and getting 6+ older games can really add up at about $20 per pop.

As far as buying the Wii goes, I am still going to hold off until I am satisfied with what I see. It will probably be a good 3+ months after the initial release before I evaluate the possibility of getting it. I didn't get the N64 or the GameCube until I saw several games that I wanted for it. I still don't have a Nintendo DS, it was only recently that I made the decision that I wanted to get one. For the Wii, SSBB, and the Virtual Console are getting me charged up, but if there aren't any other games that interest me, then I probably won't get it, or get it for a while.

Yeah, even though the Wii only has about 3 launch games that interest me, I'm still very interested in the Virtual Console, especially if I can get Legend of Zelda: OoT or Starfox 64. Those were my two favorite games for that system and if I can get them again (sold N64 to a friend :() I'd really like that.

Hey, let's suppose. If I don't have a DVD player or anything else, would it be cheaper to buy a 360 or a PS3 than a Wii?
