Discussion of the Week #1 - Obesity

Well, calories aren't bad as everyone is always making them out to be. They give you the energy you need to function; but if people aren't getting the daily physical activity that they're suppose to be, those calories turn bad.

Forum gets thrown away, obesity is fast food's fault. What has happened here in the time I was gone?

On a serious note, is living actually that hard? Prepare your own meals (though appararently this is a rare phenomena in the US), and make sure you get some exercise. Notice you grow in weight? Eat less and exercise more, if you weight drops; vice versa. Not that hard right?

^ People would rather blame fast food than themselves. People would rather sue to get rich quick than actually honestly get the money. People would rather blame someone else for their own problems than deal with it them selves. People are stupid, ignorant, and lazy. What do you expect?

Two weeks, not bad! Thank you all for posting. Next topic will be up tomorrow morning - however, feel free to continue discussion in this thread too.

Continuing with this discussion....

Im 18 Years old 5'11" 175lbs.
I exercise like it's a religion as I wrestle and am involved with MMA.
I DO eat "fast food" ocassionally though. I am able to do this through proper exercise (although, i probably work out a lot more and more strenuously than most..)
Weight loss is fairly easy to accomplish if you are wanting to do it in a healthy manner. I never suggest starvation, diuretics, water-shedding, etc as I have personally seen and felt the effects of these horrible methods throughout wrestling.

To start off with, if you are overweight, I would suggest the following:
1. Cut Back. Food-wise, you should really reduce your caloric intake and the sheer amount of food you consume in 1 sitting.
2. Cardio Exercise. To start with, just walk a mile. Do that everyday for a week. Then, Jog a mile, everyday for a week. Then just start increasing your distance by 1/2 a mile every week and you will increase your cardio by a lot.
3. Weight Lifting. A lot of people miss this when they are trying to achieve a healthier lifestyle. After I lift, I am always hungry, but I am never hungry for anything fatty or high in calories. Generally, after strenuous lifting, your stomach will become upset easily and you will want to consume "healthier" foods. Weight lifting helps you slowly reduce your Fat percentage, and depending on your routine, you will either slowly gain muscle mass, or gain it fairly fast.

We cannot blame it on Fast Food. Everyone has a choice to eat this or that, and parents have the authority to tell their kids no.

What do I think is the major cause of obesity in America?
Poor Parenting.
