Hi guys.
Is there anything that you DISlike in Generation 5?
If there is, feel free to comment!

I'll start by my own.
a) Lack of rutes:: So, first point I dislike in 'BW' is deffinetly a lack of rutes. Route 1 -> Karakusa Town. Route 2 -> First Gym. This bring really to ending the game very quickly.
b) Large amount of mono-types:: This is what makes me go crazy. A literally huuuuge amount of mono-types (in other words, Pure types - no 2nd typing). I would like to cover most of types, but before National Pokedex it's just not possible. For example, Lepardas and Doryuuzu (Excadrill), are two awesome Pokemon. But, they take 2 of 6 slots, and can be substituted with one; Dark/Ground Krookodile (Warubiaru). There are ton of this examples, and I just don't like this. Another example may be Ghost type. If you didn't start with Oshawott, you'll be searching for a decent Water-type. So you can get yourself Cofagrigus (Desukaan and let's say Basurao). Again 2 slots in your team, that is already 4. They can be later on (after 6th gym you get Surf!!) changed with Pururiru and Burungel. So huge amount of Mono-Types --> Not a plus. Not a chance.
c) Easy Leaders:: Anything more to be said?

What do you guys dislike? Is there anything?

The game hasn't even been released outside of Japan, so most people will just make assumptions.
Also, let's be more open-minded and not try to dislike a generation that has only been released for five months, eh?

ON-TOPIC:I dislike nothing, except for lack of trainer animations, which I know will be fixed in any other games after this.

I found the rate of wild encounters bizarrely high. I also do not like catching Pokemon at points in the game where they will still take a decently long time to evolve (like catching Cubchoo at Lv 27 when it evolves at Lv 37)

Also, Basurao could go extinct tomorrow and I wouldn't care less. It's like Magikarp but it doesn't evolve.

1. Lousy fully-evolved starters. They look great and have pretty good movesets, but terrible types. I'm tired of Fire/Fighting types, and I hate monotype starters.
2. Terrible names. "Throh?" "Sawk?" "Samurott?" What is this madness?! And some of the names are misleading, as well. "Eelectrick" will lead kids to think it's an eel, when lampreys aren't even related to eels apart from being fish.
3. N. He's cool, but he looks too much like me, which for a while after him being revealed got me kind of paranoid. Now, I plan to cosplay as him at Anime Boston, but still.

That's pretty much it, actually.

Some of the names are kind of stupid like gear, gigear, gigigear and the storyline seems kind of weak

@GnG: ...Excadrill is a dual ground/steel type.

I do wish that the gym leaders were a bit tougher, and it's a huge bummer that there's no rematches (for the most part). Also, I was especially surprised to see no Safari Zone, because the region is pretty lacking in Pokemon from other Generations. Kind of a pain, eh? I really hope they take advantage of how different they could make Grey.

Like all gens, the lack of a decent amount of fire types. You are literally limited to like 4.
Also, too many dragons, especially legendary dragons. Bleh.

Some extremely high level amounts to evolve Pokemon. That's really the only drastic thing I noticed from the Japanese games that I don't really like that much.

dmaster out.

^ I agree with you, that is the only thing that bothers me. But i guess they wanted to make the games hard.

1. Those are the Japanese names, silly.

2. The storyline is the strongest of all Pokemon games, or at least more intricate.

Honestly, guys, if you're going to complain about certain things play the game or wait for the international releases. I think this is getting quite ridiculous.

2. Terrible names. "Throh?" "Sawk?" "Samurott?" What is this madness?! And some of the names are misleading, as well. "Eelectrick" will lead kids to think it's an eel, when lampreys aren't even related to eels apart from being fish.

Agh, complaining about names, find something new guys. You'll get used to them.
Also, hating Eelektrik because kids might think it's an eel? Is that seriously a reason? It isn't even an eel or a lamprey, it's a fictional creature borrowing characteristics from different animals. None of the names are misleading because they're names.

I meant it's based on a lamprey. They're misleading about what the Pokemon is based on.

^ I dont think anybody, while playing the game, would care what its based on. Its a pokemon.

Charmeleon is not a chameleon. Honestly it doesn't matter, they're looking for a pun and trying to make a name. This isn't a valid reason to dislike the new Pokemon or their English names.

The only thing I dislike about Gen 5 is everyone complaining about Cofagrigus.

I love you.

The bridges.

I dislike most of the new Pokémon and the fact that you can't walk for 2 steps without being interrupted by one of those annoying kids following you around (or N and his little gang), but I can sort of live with them (as long as I'm given access to the few good Pokémon and the good old A-button), but if there's one thing which IMO is absolutely horrible about Black and White, it's those bridges. There are no trainers, and they exist for the sole purpose of showing off what are essentially horrible 3D-effects (someone should tell the designers it's not 1996 anymore). I mean, seriously, walking across an empty bridge where the only thing happening is the camera angle changing from time to time is supposed to be fun and engaging now?

The people running around and disappearing into a void in the big city are also pretty silly, but even though those are also long pointless walks, at least there's SOMETHING there...

I guess the whole showing-off-ancient-3D-effects thing as a whole bothers me, at the end of the desert where you walk under a road, what's the point? How does that add anything to the games?

Oh yeah, and the fact that they got rid of touch-screen controls, which still baffles me. Or the fact that running shoes are no longer use an on/off system... How is it that HGSS are way better games even when it comes to innovations introduced on the DS?

Haven't played too much of the games yet, though, so there might be more.

I know I haven't played the Generation V games yet but here's what I've been disappointed with so far:

1. ) No way to re-battle trainers to EV Train - Seriously in Gen IV you could use the Vs. Seeker to easily EV train your Pokemon to specific stats depending on the Nature they have when you either breed them or catch them in the wild.

In Gen V you can't, you are forced to battle wild Pokemon to EV train the old fashioned way. Hopefully If there's a 3rd Gen V game Game Freak could fix that problem to make it easier to EV train Gen V Pokemon.

2. ) No EV reducing Berries in the Unova region - Seriously this is epic fail, how are you supposed to manipulate your Pokemon's stats without using PokeSav when you can only get your EV reducing berries in the Dream World? Say I have too many EV's in one stat like HP or Speed? How do I fix it without having to go online? See where I'm getting at?

The only reason why Pokemon YouTubers use PokeSav for their Pokemon (with the exception of Killer Nacho, Tuperiu5, and AAmazing0 since breeder's do it better, don't know If MTGXerxes does) is because they don't want to wait to finish leveling up their Pokemon to delay their viewers since they want to keep up their subscriber numbers.

3. ) Too many new Bug Type Pokemon - When I was browsing through all the Unova region Pokemon I've noticed that there's like 17 different new Bug Type Pokemon, some of which are rip-offs of one's from previous Generations such as Drapion with Scolipede and Scizor with the new Bug-Type Legendary Genesect and Escavalier.

4. ) Dream World abilities outclassing Migrated Gen IV Pokemon - Don't get me wrong I love some of the new Dream World abilities for the previous Generation Pokemon in Black/White but what I don't like is how players sort of make it seem like "DW > Migrated Gen IV" is better when it's not most of the time. Yes I've heard of the new VGC 2011 rules and it's stupid.

Not every Old Pokemon HAS to have a Dream World ability to be great and some people who play Black/White don't get that at all which annoys the heck out of me. For example, If I decide to migrate a Dragon Dance Charizard onto Gen V I won't need SolarPower for it's Ability since it's not using any Special Attack's at all. See where I'm getting at?

It's not much of a dislike, but a prefereance... it lacks trainer customization (I want a top hat!!!)

Nice opinion guys!

I can also add to the Card Slinger J's post: Lack of VS. Seeker. Well, that is kinda lame. But you can battle new Pokemon 'Tabunne' - he is like Gen V's Chansey. He has got loads of HP = You get loads of Exp. You also get Lucky Egg from Proffesor Juniper in one point in your adventure. So Lucky Egg + Tabunne = You can level up to the starts. However, lamely, Pokemon leveled up by Tabunne will NOT get Ev'd. So, there's not any good way to train except to battle Tabunne (thank God I'm not one of those EV guys so I don't suffer to that).

Well let's not forget about Black and White's re-make. It came after Red and Blue, Gold and Crystal, Ruby and Sapphire, Diamond and Pearl. It may come after BW as well, in let's say fall 2011 or fall 2012. We will see. So we can expect; such as VS. Seeker, better availability of Pokemons, etc to be realised then.

Personally I've never been a fan of the whole training system. Even after clearing the game, it's still a hideous grind-fest with the 4:1 ratio of EV points to stat points, the Lv100 cap, and the realisation that even after all that you could still get screwed by poor IVs. The only game I ever went into Ev-conditioning was Emerald and that was because the cloning glitch let me ease up on the training process a little bit with a supply of rare candies and vitamins. Unlike other RPGs where the grinding tedium is confined to the one single character you control, you have to repeatedly do it in the case of pokemon.

The IV's depend on what you hatch when breeding Pokemon, rumor has it that depending on who the Mother or Father is holding a Power Item (Power Bracer, Power Lens, etc.) there's a 50% chance the offspring will have that IV but they usually don't matter unless you really need it for a specific stat or to lower speed for a Trick Room team. Sometimes it isn't always about poor IV's it may also have to do with the Pokemon's Base Stats as well.

When it comes to breeding and EV training it's really all trial and error, If you don't have the time and patience to get to Lv. 100 by battling specific Pokemon to attain specific EV's then you could always use PokeSav but then again that's the cheater's way out IMO.

For Legendary Pokemon or most Pokemon in the Uber tier's you will have a much difficult time manipulating IV's and you have a better chance manipulating their Nature's more using the Sychronize trick. Just have an Abra with Synchronize as your Lead, throw a Master Ball, and viola! If it doesn't work go to where you last saved and try again until you get it right.
