Playthrough DNA's Choose-My-Team Run-Through of Pokémon Pearl! Finished!

RE: DNA's Choose-My-Team Run-Through of Pokémon Pearl! Ch. 14 up!

I did find that one (and quite easily), but rejected it because it was too goofy.

Uh huh.
I think it fits Thorne better then the one you're using.
Still wrong gender. :p

Either I pick the one more accurate to the personality but the incorrect horn shape, or the one that's far more derpy though the horn is correct.

...Do you have any idea how hard it is to find fitting images, KoNner? Do you?

RE: DNA's Choose-My-Team Run-Through of Pokémon Pearl! Ch. 14 up!

Wooo! o/ Very nice climax and well done. :3 It's been a blast reading along with this; you have a flair for humour and good storytelling that's made this very enjoyable to follow. So proud of little Aphrodite. <3 Glad you decided to do the post-game stuff so that there's still more left.

RE: DNA's Choose-My-Team Run-Through of Pokémon Pearl! Ch. 14 up!

Well, I did want to make this one run that wouldn't die out early, so I wanted to make it enjoyable both for myself and my readers. And, hopefully, I think I pulled it off.

Glad to see you loved reading every bit of it. The extra chapters might not have as much as the main chapters, but I want to make them every bit as hilarious. And, based on what I have planned, I think it'll work! ;p

RE: DNA's Choose-My-Team Run-Through of Pokémon Pearl! Ch. 14 up!

That was an entertaining fourteen chapters, DNA, thanks for that. I'm looking forward to those wrap-up chapters as well.

By the way, I began a Platinum Nuzlocke today with a Turtwig of my own, and she's been wrecking face just like the based TorTERROR. You can never go wrong with Turtwigs.

RE: DNA's Choose-My-Team Run-Through of Pokémon Pearl! Ch. 14 up!

Based TorTERROR auto-wins against life.

Speaking of which, all the extra chapters are finished at last (there are 3 of them). I stuffed in a few more cameos so it'll be a bit more random than usual, but I'm sure many of you will be pleasantly surprised and pleased.

DNA's Pokémon Pearl Dolo Run-Through
Extra Chapter 1: Wait, You Mean There's MORE!?

I wake up and I'm in that bed in Twinleaf Town again, just like I was on day 1 of the playthrough. I'm annoyed, because I thought beating the Dolo League meant the game was over! But no, I'm stuck in this stupid world again, and why!? I do a roll call, and all of my team is present, thankfully. I go downstairs, and the woman who isn't my mother says that Teapot was looking for me to get on a ship at Snowpoint City. Ugh, it's deja vu. Again. Ugh, better go see what he wants. I go to Snowpoint City, and sail on said ship to the Battle Zone.

<+Teapot> sup DNA
<+Teapot> what took you so long? I'm fining you $100 million!
<@DNA> DAMMIT Teapot
<@DNA> I'm tired of this game
<@DNA> It's over; it's done; why are we still here?
<@DNA> and I don't care if you're a poor college student
<@DNA> I'm not paying you a thing
<+Teapot> ouch
<+Teapot> anyway, this island is for getting stronger. and I want to get to the point where I can finally beat you. that's why I'm here!
<@DNA> then why'd you invite me?
<@DNA> You do realize I could just train here too and get stronger as well?
<@DNA> and thus REMAIN stronger than you?
<+Teapot> uh uh uh
<+Teapot> I didn't think this through very well, did I? >_<
<+SomeLoser> he's right, you know
<+SomeLoser> logic, after all
<+SomeLoser> Anyway, welcome to the Battle Zone, guys. I'm here for the treasure in the volcano.
<+Teapot> that's nice
<+Teapot> for now I'm going to the Battle Tower
<+Teapot> see ya
*** Teapot has left #fightarea
<+SomeLoser> ...same old Teapot?
<@DNA> Same old Teapot.
<+SomeLoser> just make sure he doesn't get killed, okay?
<@DNA> always do
<+SomeLoser> anyway, I'll see you around later. take care.
*** SomeLoser has left #fightarea

There is not much to see in the Fight Area. The entrance to the Battle Tower is here, but the rest of the island is closed off without an upgraded Pokedex. There aren't any items to really be snagged here other than some berries, a Razor Fang, and some guy who ran into me, who seems to recognize me. Also Teapot, who also ran into me.

Now I need to get my Pokedex upgraded. To do that, I need to have seen the first 150 Pokemon in the Sinnoh Dex. The only ones I'm missing are Uxie, Mesprit, Azelf, and Dialga. The elder of Celestic Town has a picture of Dialga, and the pixies are at the lakes (though Mesprit will take off on sight). I really don't care about catching them, so I'll just run from them to get the 'seen' data.

<@DNA> hey Pride
<@DNA> I've seen every Pokemon in Sinnoh
<@DNA> upgrade my Pokedex so that I may dolo more kthx
<~Pride> Sure, I can do that
<~Pride> say, isn't that...

<@gamercal> Pride's been filling me in on your progress with beta testing
<@gamercal> I'm impressed
<~Pride> Cal, you can upgrade his Pokedex, right?
<@gamercal> I most certainly can!

*** DNA has left #lab

Calum is Professor Oak? Oh, Teapot will be so jealous. Might as well make a quick stopover at Pal Park while I'm here. Unfortunately, I have to walk all the way there again, but I cleared out all the trainers already, so this will be child's play. Calum is already there, and gives me the Poketch App #20 Trainer Counter, which is used to keep track of Poke Radar chains. Not like I'll need it. There are also two other apps to get here, acquired when you show a girl a Snorlax and then a Kecleon, though I don't have either of those on me right now. Apparently there are people here who are big fans of my Catching Shows, but...I haven't been here before now. Weird. Okay, time to move on.

As far as the post-game is concerned, there are seven routes to cover: 224 through 230. Of those, only 224 is on the Sinnoh mainland, and it's through the Victory Road side chamber that Pineapple X WAS blocking, but now isn't. Those are the areas I will be covering in these post-game chapters. I anticipate that I'll take about 3 chapters to cover them all, but I don't know that for sure. For now, I head to Route 225.

<Larry> Hmm! A Super Rod is really good!
<Larry> Wouldn't you agree?
<@DNA> don't you mean 'really super'? but yes.
<Larry> Hmm! We're of identical minds!
<Larry> Hmm! Take this Super Rod!
<@DNA> thanks
<@DNA> say hello to your identical less attractive cousins for me
<Larry> Will do!

I consider that my present for finishing the Sinnoh Pokedex.

Route 225 is pretty small. It's also straightforward, but it's pretty windy (with a long I, not a short one). The trainers are fairly strong, with Pokemon in the mid-50s, but that is no problem for Team Dolo. After all, we are the champions, my friends.

Here's a laundry list of items and stuff we find:

  • HP Up - Near the entrance off to the left (req. Rock Climb)
  • Rare Candy - To the left of the square of three trainers at the entrance (req. Cut)
  • Ultra Ball - Across the first bridge
  • Hyper Potion (hidden) - Across another bridge in the middle of a 4x4 square of grass
  • Revive - Past the male Pokemon Ranger, before the first male Cooltrainer
  • Fresh Water - In a house
  • Lax Incense - Just next to that house (req. Cut)
  • Dubious Disc - Across a pond by that house (req. Surf)
  • Dawn Stone - At the end of the route, past a Dragon Tamer (req. Rock Climb)

Welcome to the Survival Area, the second of three villages on this island. The prevalent thing here is the legend of Stark Mountain, that was created at the start of Sinnoh. The lava pooled together to form a Pokemon, Heatran, which ultimately formed into a volcano. A Black Belt here will give you TM42 Facade, and that is it. Onward to Route 226!

Rock Climb and Surf are required to navigate this route, if you wish to go any further. Stark Mountain is northeast of here, but that is the last place we'll hit on this island. For now I will be exploring the rest of the routes on this island.

Here's what I find on Route 226. For all items, assume Rock Climb and/or Surf are required by default.

  • Max Revive (hidden) - Next to a house; technically in the Survival Area
  • Carbos - By the second split where the path goes up or down, going down
  • Lagging Tail - Same split, going up (main path)
  • TM53 Energy Ball - Past the bird keeper and dragon tamer pair
  • TinyMushroom x2 (hidden) - In the large patch of grass, before you have to Surf
  • Big Mushroom (hidden) - Same place
  • Big Pearl (hidden) - On a sandbar near where you have to start surfing (side path)
  • Meister - The house in the middle of the pond
  • PP Up (hidden) - Due north of Meister's house, across the water

At the end of Route 226, the route splits off north and east. North heads towards Route 227 and ultimately Stark Mountain, while east goes towards Route 228 and later to the Resort Area. For now we'll go towards Route 228. The route here is wrapped in a constant sandstorm - good for certain types of Pokemon, bad for everything else. Don't have the fights go for too long!

What do I find around the desert sands of this dry Route 228?

  • Protector - Just north of the entrance to the route, down a sand slide
  • Shiny Stone - At the very end of the side path down the east of the route (req. Bicycle and Rock Smash). That side path will skip almost the entire route.
  • Iron - Directly below a bike path
  • Shed Shell - Near the Elemental Hyper Beam tutor's house (req. Rock Smash)
  • Ultra Ball - Southwest of the pond by the tutor's house
  • TM37 Sandstorm (lol) - Just past the ranger duo
  • Calcium (hidden) - Past the psychic, over a bike path
  • Full Restore (hidden) - Southwest of the psychic in a patch of grass

After that leads Route 229, but I'm going to burst through it and into the Resort Area, and explore the rest of the route fully later. (Note, most of it is over water, so Surf is required.) There are 2 trainers right there too, so time to get rid of them too, in true dolo style.

The Resort Area is, most notably, home to the Ribbon Syndicate, which you can't get into without enough ribbons in your party (I think it's 10 or more - Julia in Sunyshore really helps to reach this number). Sure enough, I can't get in, but I'm not concerned about that. There's a pond in the bottom right with a hidden Nugget in the middle, and a visible one on the edge. And that's it for this area.

Okay, now for Route 229, which is on land...

  • Big Mushroom (hidden) - At the southwest edge of a pond (req. Cut and Surf)
  • Protein - At the northeast edge of that pond (req. Cut)
  • Full Restore - At the northeast bit of the route, by the female Cooltrainer
  • Reaper Cloth - In a small clearing concealed in the trees (req. Cut)
  • Nugget - From a guy in a corner of the tall grass

...and Route 230, which is at sea...
(All items here require Surf and Rock Smash.)

  • Carbos (hidden) - On the north of the island, behind a rock
  • HP Up (hidden) - On the right of the island, behind a rock
  • Rare Candy - Further right of the HP Up, and clearly visible

And look, we're back at the Fight Area. Looks like we circled the island! I think that was a good entry chapter to the post-game. Next time, we tackle Stark Mountain!

End of Extra Chapter 1!

DNA's Pokémon Pearl Dolo Run-Through
Extra Chapter 2: Contains Great Amounts of Sexiness

Ah, Stark Mountain. It's a very big place. And by big, I mean very straightforward if you get to use Rock Climb, which you can't on your first trip there (at least not inside). This was the last bit I did on my last save file of Pearl, before erasing it for dolo. It's not exactly hard to navigate Stark Mountain - it's just very very time-consuming, and because of that it's not very enjoyable.

Regardless, I must slug through it to reach the end, so travel there I must! Before that is Route 227, where volcanic ash falls and bike ramps await - and this time the bike ramps aren't in a cave, so wilds won't try to rape me right before I make the jump. (I HATE that, especially in Victory Road.) And right at the end of the route is someone with a rest house, right before we go into the mountain. How nice. It also helped as Carlos and Geist got severely roughed up by some cooltrainers right before said house.

Rock Smash and Strength WILL be required inside, so I'm preparing for that, and bringing along Slave 0. I go back by way of Route 228, which is much shorter than coming from the Survival Area. Though, before I find anything of note, I run into Teapot and bacon.

<+SomeLoser> sup DNA
<@DNA> sup Jake
<+SomeLoser> what brings you here?
<@DNA> loot
<@DNA> I would say plot but I'm not playing Platinum
<+SomeLoser> haha
<+SomeLoser> I'm here for the same reason actually
<+SomeLoser> I'll see you up ahead.
<@DNA> k, see you soon

Here's the list of items I find on Route 227 and right outside Stark Mountain.

  • Zinc - Just across a bike ledge right as you enter the upper half of Route 227, by a female Cooltrainer
  • Full Heal (hidden) - Underneath the bike ledge that takes you to the Zinc (req. Rock Climb)
  • Charcoal - In the same clearing as the Full Heal (req. Rock Climb)
  • Life Orb - Past the Dragon Tamer on the upper-left corner of the route (req. Rock Climb)
  • Protein - Jump off a ledge just south of where you get the Life Orb (req. Rock Climb)
  • Ether - In the grass just outside the mountain's entrance

Stark Mountain has some pretty cool music. It's unique to this location, featured nowhere else in the game, and really has the whole volcano vibe going for it. It certainly makes up for the gigantic chore that navigating is. The entrance is a Strength puzzle, though it technically isn't that hard at all. Hanging a left from the entrance gets you an Escape Rope, not like we'll need it...maybe. On the right, past the three boulders is a PP Up. There's a Burn Heal on the stairs up to the big room ahead, as well as a Full Restore (don't push that last boulder all the way to the edge!).

Teapot is there too, salty that Some Loser swept him. I have a brief laugh at his expense and move right along. And sure enough, there he is.

<+SomeLoser> DNA, good timing
<+SomeLoser> I just swept Teapot and he's salty about it
<@DNA> you swept him with a Claydol?
<@DNA> hahahah
<@DNA> knew I picked the right guy
<+SomeLoser> so you specifically cast me as Buck so I'd have a kickass Claydol, and then use it to sweep Teapot,
<+SomeLoser> because Claydol is totally baller in UU?
<+SomeLoser> also because Claydol is your 2nd favorite?
<@DNA> 3rd favorite now, but yes
<+SomeLoser> <3
<@DNA> <3
<+SomeLoser> since you're here, why don't we team up?
<+SomeLoser> since I have Claydol, you can use Earthquake with TorTERROR and never have to worry
<+TorTERROR> this guy's a keeper
<@DNA> it's why I keep him around
<@DNA> let's do this!

The only BAD part to this is I can't use Rock Climb and can't shortcut everything. For now, Some Loser and I are teaming up. His Pokemon is a lv. 58 Claydol which, as he said, lets TorTERROR use Earthquake without worry - plus it's an utter tank. Its moveset is Ancientpower, Psychic, Reflect, and Light Screen. And, of course, we fully heal after every fight. What's not to love?

Probably the sheer size of this place. But hey, that makes the team-up last longer.

(Okay, Stark Mountain is probably worse than Coronet, even though it's much smaller, so I'm going to mark the route I take here too.)

From entering, head due west and pick up a Hyper Potion under a rock. From there I go north down a staircase, west up another one, and then a little north and west down a small one to grab a hidden Flame Plate. I double back, except going back to where I was, I go due south and down another staircase. Down here is an area with a little gulf in it, but nothing's there. Instead, go north and all the way around past a cooltrainer duo for a Rare Candy. That dead-ends, so time to go allllll the way back to that first north-south staircase.

Keep going north from there through a very thin corridor, and go left to push a boulder with Strength. This leads past two more cooltrainers, who seem easier than the last bunch. Past them is TM50 Overheat, which was visible from where I picked up the Flame Plate. Another dead end, so time to go back - seems we can't go any farther forward from the left, so time to try again from the right. I start from the entrance, as before.

I go down the first staircase going south, knowing it'll probably be a dead end but there are items to be found. Sure enough, after that I go all the way to the right, and past two psychics (who pack flyers and levitaters to make my job harder, but TorTERROR does pack Crunch) to pick up an Iron Ball. Going north from those psychics, passing a staircase, leads to a hidden Zinc. Going even FURTHER north will lead to a closed-off area where a Veteran and Dragon Tamer are waiting (brb dreamsmash), and up the stairs from them is a Max Revive...and another dead end. There's also an Iron hidden behind the Expert, so if you engage them 2-on-2 (like I did), you'll have to leave and re-enter to get it.

Let's try a different approach now, since this isn't working. Back to the entrance, go east, and north down the first staircase I find, to challenge a bird keeper and a black belt. From them, go to the left, then hang a quick right and go into a small ravine to pick up a Calcium. Then, double back, don't push the boulder, because there's a hidden item behind it. Rather, go back up the steps and continue east, then go north along the high path, smash a rock, then quickly go left down the steps and north to the rock to pick up a hidden Revive.

There's also a bit of a side path here if you keep going north and hang a right; if I didn't take the stairs down to meet those psychics, I'd end up here instead and fight two cooltrainers instead. It's a thin road, but it's on the upper path. There's also something via Rock Climb here, but since I have Jake with me, I can't access it yet. However, if you keep heading north down that other path I was on (the one I had to take to get the Revive), it leads to a staircase going down, which leads deeper into the mountain. FINALLY WE ARE GETTING SOMEWHERE.

Let's make this a bit easier. Due north is a pair of cooltrainers, guarding a Rock Climb path, which actually leads directly to the end. That would make it so much easier, but alas... Nevertheless, I should defeat them now to make it easier to come back here later. South is a dead end, so don't go that way. Instead, go west and smash a rock, and then go south up a staircase to do battle with a dragon tamer and a black belt. Then, go west from them (going east leads to the Rock Climb shortcut path, which you really can't take now).

Go south down the first staircase you come across (you should be hugging the north wall at this point), and push the following boulder as far as you can go. And voila, we're at the end!

<+SomeLoser> sweet, we're at the end
<+SomeLoser> thanks man, couldn't have done it without you
<@DNA> I could say the same thing about you
<+SomeLoser> heh
<+SomeLoser> you're almost done with the dolo run, right?
<@DNA> Yep. I only have one more place to go now.
<+SomeLoser> Hold on, I need to go get what I came for.
* SomeLoser goes on ahead.
<@DNA> Oh, right, the Magma Stone.
<+SomeLoser> .....wow, the mountain shook when I took it.
<+SomeLoser> Maybe it'll erupt?
<+SomeLoser> ...nah.
<+SomeLoser> I'm out for now; say hi to Teapot for me

*** SomeLoser has left #starkmountain

And thus the team-up has come to an end. I can now snag the last few items in here that require Rock Climb to reach, which are an Ultra Ball, a Max Elixir, and a Nugget. There's also a path that goes in a straight line from the entrance to the center chamber - well, it's roughly in a straight line. Just keep using Rock Climb each chance you get that it's possible to go forward, and you'll be at the end in no time. This also helps on the return trip.

Item recap!
(The last few need Rock Climb, and thus require a return trip without an escort)

  • Hyper Potion (hidden) - Due west of when we come in
  • Flame Plate (hidden) - From the Hyper Potion, go north, west, then northwest past 3 staircases - it's in a narrow corridor
  • Rare Candy - Southwest bit of the room, past two cooltrainers
  • TM50 Overheat - West bit of the room, past two cooltrainers (visible from where the Flame Plate is)
  • Iron Ball - Southeast bit of the room, past two psychics
  • Zinc (hidden) - Due north of the psychics
  • Max Revive - Past the expert and dragon tamer at the northeast bit of the room
  • Iron (hidden) - Behind the expert
  • Calcium - In a small ravine past the black belt and bird keeper (visible from where they are)
  • Revive (hidden) - Behind a boulder near said ravine (go up and around to the right to reach it)
  • Ultra Ball - Near the entrance, down the first staircase to the left (req. Rock Climb)
  • Max Elixir - Near the east-middle bit of the room, northwest of where the psychics are (req. Rock Climb)
  • Nugget - In the northeast bit of the room (req. Rock Climb)

There's one little bit left to this little sidequest (the part that triggers Heatran's appearance in Stark Mountain), so to finish that up, I head back to the Survival Area and eavesdrop on a rather humorous conversation in some old dude's house.

<KoN> Wait, you took the Magma Stone?
<+SomeLoser> Yeah, what of it?
<KoN> You know that releases Heatran, right?
<+SomeLoser> yes, of course I knew that
<+SomeLoser> I'm trying to soft-reset for a good one
<+SomeLoser> why else would I bother going out to Stark Mountain?

Best role ever, right here.
Ok, going to read the rest of it now.

edit: done.
Machamp.dek is awesome btw.

Just noticed I have the last line in the chapter. Cool.

RE: DNA's Choose-My-Team Run-Through of Pokémon Pearl! Ex. Ch. 2 up!

Machamp.dek is awesome but that's only because it is the only autoloss to the BDIF (Gigas.dek), though even then it can be worked around.

RE: DNA's Choose-My-Team Run-Through of Pokémon Pearl! Ex. Ch. 3 up!

It is with great joy, and also with great sadness, that I present to you the final chapter of Pokemon Dolo Version.

DNA's Pokémon Pearl Dolo Run-Through
Extra Chapter 3: In Which I Mock Everything

There's now only ONE part in this game I've yet to really explore: the extension to Victory Road and Route 224 beyond that. Because there's a lot of obstacles ahead, this is going to require me to give up THREE slots for HM Slaves, instead of the usual 2 or 1. And I'm going to do something really crazy here, but I'm going to box Carlos, Geist, AND TorTERROR for this run, just to try and get the other three up to par with levels. Fortunately, Aphrodite, Thorne, and especially Crumpets are all very capable, so this should not pose too big of a challenge.

(By the way, the HMs I will need are, at minimum, Surf, Defog, Waterfall, and Rock Climb, never mind a Rock Smash or Strength I MIGHT need for items. So yeah, this is going to require me use Slaves 0, 1, and 2. On the plus side, I can fly back when I'm done, instead of walking back like I usually do!)

The fat man Pineapple X is gone, which is good, because it means that he did as I said. I go into the passage he was sitting in front of, and it's mostly a straight line, going down deeper into Victory Road, on the east side. The next room is shrouded in fog, so I have Slave 1 (Staravia) clear it away. When it's cleared away, I am somewhat surprised.

<+Lenny> wait wtf am I doing here
<+Lenny> and why do I look like a loli
<@DNA> the first one is because I said so
<@DNA> the second one is I have no idea
<@DNA> are you bringing out shota urges or something
<+Lenny> DNA what
<+Lenny> what's going on
<+Lenny> I was just playing my PS3 with PMJ and all of a sudden this giant white fog filled the room
<+Lenny> and when it cleared, here I am
<+Lenny> genderswapped and lollified
<@DNA> snrk
<@DNA> 'lollified'
<@DNA> makes it sound like you turned into a lollipop
<@DNA> I must use this word from now on
<+Lenny> w/e
<+Lenny> can you just show me the way out or whatever
<@DNA> sure

While I quietly giggle to myself about Marley Lenny, I take a look around at the room. This journey is mostly going to involve hugging the west and north walls; the rest of the room requires Surf to traverse, and you can't use Surf if you have an escort, so, similar to Stark Mountain, I'm going to have to come back to much of this after Lenny decides to gtfo. His?/her?/its?/I don't even know anymore sole Pokemon is a lv. 57 Arcanine with Intimidate, and its moveset is Extremespeed, Agility, Fire Fang, and Helping Hand. Not a bad choice, honestly, if it actually attacked more often - it seems to use Helping Hand pretty much every turn, because Lenny doesn't know how to play Pokemon apparently. The wild Pokemon here are in the low 50s, much weaker than Stark Mountain (mid to high 50s). Honestly I think the worst is over, but Lenny is a crappy escort.

<+Lenny> you're very chatty
<@DNA> you shouldn't act like an emo
<+Lenny> why did you have to bring me here
<+Lenny> why didn't you pick...idk
<+Lenny> Gale?
<@DNA> I flipped a coin and it chose you
<@DNA> soz
<+Lenny> ...
<+Lenny> so where is Gale anyway
<@DNA> I haven't a clue, but he's probably nowhere to be found

I later found out that Gale is that little kid in Canalave City having Darkrai-induced nightmares. ...I'll deal with that later. Maybe.

The first trainer duo I fight ends with a lv. 54 Blissey, which ends up eating a Helping Hand-amped Close Combat directly to the face. Man, that felt GOOD. Past them, the path splits up, and both ways require Strength. I decide to continue hugging the wall. There are 3 boulders in a row; push each one to the left OR to the right, but not north or otherwise you'll have to go the other way. Right about this point I start to lose patience with all the wild Pokemon, so I start using up Repels. (I can see the game lag for a fraction of a second each time wilds would appear.)

The east path leads to a winding maze of boulders. It goes around and around for a while, but it loops back around at one point to a shortcut at its start, requiring Strength - I push the boulders aside so I can backtrack easier. Then, it goes back to the main path. The maze itself is split into two halves, and that was the west half. East half will probably come later.

Back to the main (north) path. Past the psychics are a Dusk Stone and a Elixir. Both require Strength, but you can only get 1 at a time - getting the other involves leaving and re-entering the room. Past those items are 3 more pairs of trainers, fought in quick succession (in between the 2nd and 3rd pairs is when the boulder maze side path cuts back in again). Past the third pair is the east half of the boulder maze (which is basically nothing), and then one more pair of trainers - plus what I'm pretty sure is the Surf shortcut that skips through the entire room. And we're done.

<+Lenny> so that's the end
<+Lenny> if I go through that door, will I end up back home?
<@DNA> possibly
<+Lenny> possibly?
<@DNA> I know at the very least that I will not see you around Sinnoh
<@DNA> I only needed you to traverse this bit of the cave
<@DNA> so yeah, it teleports you back home
<+Lenny> ...do I trust you
<@DNA> you don't have a choice
<+Lenny> ...fair enough
<+Lenny> see you round
*** Lenny has left #victoryroad

I also comb through the southeast bit of the room, the bit that requires Surf to navigate. There's another pair of trainers down there (cooltrainers), so I might as well go sweep, though it's a LOT harder with only half a team. I also capture a Lapras, which was more manageable than the rogue Mantyke from earlier...though not by much - it threatened to kill itself with Perish Song, but I got it. Here are the items I find around the room in its entirety:

  • Full Restore (hidden) - In the winding maze of small boulders
  • Dusk Stone - Northwest corner of the room; you have to re-enter to get the Elixir (req. Strength)
  • Elixir - Northwest corner of the room; you have to re-enter to get the Dusk Stone (req. Strength)
  • Big Pearl - Near the east exit of the room
  • Leftovers - Straight across the pond from the west exit (req. Surf)

<+Aphrodite> AGH
<+Aphrodite> THE LIGHT
<+Aphrodite> IT BURNS US
<@DNA> oh suck it up; it's only route 224
<@DNA> besides, it's nighttime anyway
<+Thorne> We won't be here for long, will we?
<@DNA> Nope. Get loot, reach the end, fly back home. That's it.
<@DNA> Then we can say we explored all of Sinnoh.
<+Crumpets> Truly a lofty goal! I look forward to it with bated breath.

It's not quite over yet, but since it's not in a cave, Victory Road makes the Route 224 stretch look easy by comparison. The first trainer was none too accommodating, though, as he had a Gyarados and Geist was boxed. Still, nothing major. East Sea Gastrodon can be found here too, but I've had Aphrodite for a while so I won't need to catch one.

Due to my urge to not want to go back to the Pokemon Center after that ludicrously long walk, I think I used more healing items here than in the rest of my playthrough put together. Also Repels. Lots of those. Finally sick and tired of wilds. Took me long enough to lose my mind.

Loot!

  • Berries on an upper ledge - There's a small gap going west from the big patch of grass by the Veteran; go that way to reach here.
  • Rare Candy - Visible from where the berries are, in the same general area (req. Surf)
  • Razor Claw - In a hidden cove, found by surfing due south from the beach with the black belt (req. Surf)
  • Stardust (hidden) - By the big rock on the east end of the beach
  • Pearl (hidden) - In the small pool northeast of the female cooltrainer (req. Surf)
  • Destiny Knot - Near to the dragon tamer

Not a whole lot, but just past the Destiny Knot we're at the end of the route. And there, we find...

<@DNA> ...it's a rock.
<@DNA> There's nothing here but a white rock.
<+Thorne> We came all this way for a ROCK?
<+Thorne> What a GYP!!
<Fletchling> NO, MORTALS
<Fletchling> THERE IS MORE THAN JUST A ROCK
<+Crumpets> Who goes there?
* Fletchling lands on the white rock.
<Fletchling> PRAISE ME
<+Thorne> NO!
<+Thorne> Go away, you STUPID BIRD!
* Thorne Megahorns Fletchling into the sea!
<Fletchling> ;-;
<Fletchling> glub glub glub
*** Fletchling has quit (Drowned)
<@DNA> gg fletchscrub
<@DNA> okay let's fly back
*** DNA has left #route

<+TorTERROR> you're back
<+Geist> find anything?
<@DNA> nothing much. Just a rock and a few pieces of loot.
<@DNA> but we're finally done.
<@DNA> Pride will be proud of us.
<+Crumpets> Verily, we have traversed every corner of this noble region of Sinnoh!
<+Crumpets> I daresay, that is quite a feat.
<+Thorne> for real!
<+Thorne> we rock! ^.^
<+Aphrodite> Yeah! Go us! ^.^
<+Carlos> Gotta admit, I'm pretty impressed. Didn't think we could do it.
<+Carlos> But I'm glad I could be a part of it.
<+Geist> same here
<+TorTERROR> And for me too. It's always nice to do something for the Pride-man, especially in the name of dolo.
<@DNA> And it's been a pleasure working with you guys too.
<@DNA> So, shall we call it here, until we go adventuring again?
<+TorTERROR> It's been a good run. Sure, why not?
<+Geist> fine by me
<+Aphrodite> Yup!
<+Carlos> sure.
<+Thorne> Yeah, we did good.
<+Crumpets> It's truly been a humbling experience journeying with you all. I pray we can go on other adventures sometime, in the eventual future.
<+Crumpets> But for now, my friends, and also to you, our avid readers, we must bid you adieu.
<+Crumpets> Until we meet again!
<+TorTERROR> Team #DOLO, signing off!
