RE: DNA's Choose-My-Team Run-Through of Pokémon Pearl! Ch. 10 up!

Ugh DNA. You always make me stay up reading these WAY past my bed-time.

Awesome chapter though.
Needs moar Weavile.

RE: DNA's Choose-My-Team Run-Through of Pokémon Pearl! Ch. 10 up!

I'll have a Weavile by the time the game is over.
Also, it's genius. I post them right before I go to bed, and then go to bed, so everyone else ends up suffering. whoo \o/

Unfortunately, this is correct. Still the coolest villain, though.

Merry Christmas, guys!
Your present is a new chapter of dolo

DNA's Pokémon Pearl Dolo Run-Through
Chapter 11: A Very Long and Protracted Plot Point, Part 2

Mount Coronet is a big place. Like, REALLY big. It's a single gigantic mountain that divides Sinnoh in half, and to get to other places in Sinnoh, you'll need to actually go through it a few times (from Oreburgh to Hearthome, and from Celestic to Snowpoint, you have to go through Mount Coronet, if only for a little bit).

What I will do is give each of the rooms numbers and/or letters, explain where they connect, and what items can be found in them (if I haven't already covered it in a previous section of the walkthrough). Please note, to fully explore the mountain, you will need the HMs Surf, Rock Climb, Rock Smash, and Strength. Surf and Rock Climb are definitely required to reach the summit, and the other two make collecting of items easier.

After I make all the preparations I require, I go tackle Mount Coronet. The easiest way to start your ascent to the top is to fly to Oreburgh City and use the entrance on Route 207. (In fact, that room is the starting point to get to the top anyway; it's not possible to ascend Mount Coronet from another entrance - unless you count the Hearthome entrance, but you still have to walk around to the other end.)

I'll also put in bold where plot starts to happen, so if you want you can skip most of this and go grab a snack or whatever. You'll know it when you see it. I also don't care very much about Palkia, so I won't be leaving an open slot in the party to check its stats; I'll just be leaving Aphrodite and Carlos behind to make room for the HM Slaves (0, Bibarel; and 2, Floatzel). That'll make time for Carlos to work on his next art project or whatever.

~~~
First, the rooms that don't really make much difference. Room S1 is the room in Mount Coronet that can be entered from Route 211; the west half borders Eterna and the east half borders Celestic, but it's the same route. Strength and Rock Smash are required to navigate this room; the north half takes you to Room S2, and the south half is one-way, coming from Room 8 (which is much further up the mountain).
Room S2 is the foggy room with the pond wherein Feebas may be caught; it's down a staircase from room S1. At the northern end of it is a staircase that leads to room S3, which is very small and goes directly outside to Route 216, which ultimately leads to Snowpoint. I will not cover these rooms here, because I already looted them in parts 9 and 10, and they do not connect to the main parts of the mountain.
Room 1 is the first room of interest. It can be entered from the west side via Route 207, which connects to Oreburgh, or from the east side via Route 208, which connects to Hearthome. I've already raided this room for items, as I did in previous parts (mostly in chapter 10). To advance up the mountain, enter from the west side, go slightly north, then surf across the pond, keep going east until you see a small wall navigated with Rock Climb. Climb up it, and up the staircase. That will take you to room 2, the next part of our trek up the mountain. (I scouted this room in a prior part, but collected no items. I went here to check something - apparently, it is impossible to proceed further than here until you clear the Galactic HQ; otherwise, a cave mural of the three pixies blocks the way.)
Room 2 is just up the stairs at the upper-right hand corner of Room 1. Up the first platform you see, grab an Ether (hidden under the rock) and a Max Potion (visible). The wild Pokemon here are substantially tougher; Bronzong at lv. 38 can be found here, to give you an idea. The next platform you see will take you further, but skip it for now and keep going south to grab an Escape Rope (helpful to not walk back). Double back and go up the platform, then go south where there will be an exit out to Route 207. Use Rock Climb out here to grab an Iron, then go back inside. Then, keep going north, remaining on the platform. Cross the bridge and climb off the platform. Go south to grab TM80 Rock Slide, then back north again, under the bridge. There is a Revive there, then, cross over the next bridge, go down and under the bridge again to move forward. The door at the end leads to room 3, if you've cleared the Galactic HQ - otherwise the way will be blocked by a cave mural. In Platinum, you can also see the broken remains of the mural, but such flavor is not present in D/P.
Room 3 houses nothing but a staircase upwards, to Room 4. There's a staircase that leads immediately down after that, which leads to the other half of Room 3, where a hidden Max Revive can be found.
Room 4 is the first room where you will fight Team Galactic Grunts. I notice the first one is Blah wearing a dress and carrying a lv. 40 Beautifly (really?). I ask him where all the RR&TT clones have gone, and he stated that the last of them died back at the Galactic HQ, and it's nothing but him and Dork Void - and the commanders - from here on out. ...which means it'll still be easy, just less easy. The next grunt in this room is a Dork Void clone, with a lv. 39 Bronzor (which Geist easily takes care of). Past him leads outside to room 5.
Room 5 is the first place that's actually on the mountain face, instead of within the mountain itself. It is snowing in this room, and all fights here will be in hail. A few other rooms will be like this as well, and here is when the BGM changes for every room thereafter in Mount Coronet. No grunts are fought outside, however.
As for the layout of Room 5 itself, head east and then north - there is no difference whether you go through the grass or not, so you can skip it. Use Rock Climb to ascend the wall. Using Rock Climb again will take you to a patch of grass with a Nugget hidden underneath the rock, but is otherwise a dead end. Heading east from that wall will take you into Room 6, which is off the beaten path, but I'll explore it anyway.
Room 6 is indoors. The southwest rock on the initial platform has a PP Up (hidden), and on the platform just below, there's a TinyMushroom (hidden) between two rocks. Both require Rock Smash. There is a pond there that requires Waterfall to scale, and at the top there's a Stone Plate if you want to come back for it after getting 8 badges. Going up the staircase at the start of the room will get you an Ultra Ball. Then, go back outside to Room 5.
Moving right along, head west from there. You will be given 2 paths: one requires Strength and is shorter, the other requires no HMs but goes through grass and is therefore longer. Take the former if you can; along that path is a hidden Max Potion that requires Rock Smash to reach. Go up the platform, and avoid all the grass to take you indoors, to the main part of Room 6.
Right as you enter Room 6 you will see a wall to climb with Rock Climb. There's a Galactic grunt there, but amongst the smashable rocks there's a hidden Revive in the top left. Walking across to the other side there's an Ether hidden underneath another rock. Smack the other Galactic grunt (I should note that most of these guys have hilarious pre-fight lines), go down the small stairs and snag the hidden Escape Rope (this room is big on hiding items under rocks) and head outside to Room 7.
Room 7 is outdoors, so expect snow and hail. Technically it's part of room 5 and the same outside, but that's too confusing for navigation purpose, so I will call this Room 7. To the left of the southwest smashable rock is a hidden Stardust; no other rocks hide anything. Going down the stairs will reveal a cave that leads to Room 8, which isn't part of the main climb, but I will go by it anyway. (Note: Going to Room 8 is COMPLETELY optional, and takes a lot of time and effort. If you don't care that much about grabbing everything, skip it.)
This is the first time I ever detoured to Room 8 up the climb, and apparently there's a grunt right inside - I didn't know that. Use Rock Climb to descend the first wall, head east, then detour south by climbing up the small staircase. Snag the hidden Max Ether (req. Rock Smash) then snake around, and snag the hidden Big Mushroom before doubling back. (Seriously, is there any use for these things?) You should be hugging the east wall now. Go waaaaaaaaaaaay north, smack the grunt, keep going north, smack the next grunt, hug the north wall, get the hidden Full Restore behind the smashable rock, hug the west wall, go down the small staircase, then Rock Climb down to the bottom of the room. If you go north from there, there's a grunt blocking the way and asking you not to pay attention to him. If he weren't there, you could take that as a shortcut to Room S1, an alternate way out the mountain. (I think I will do that to leave, instead of using Escape Rope.) So, for now, just go south instead and smash a few rocks; behind the 2nd of 3 is a hidden Rare Candy. There are now two small staircases; take the right one to snag a hidden Revive (under the rock, obviously), and then take the left one and use Rock Climb to scale the wall. You're now back near the start of the room, so Rock Climb to scale the wall to the west and go back outside. When I leave, I'll take the short way out (hugging the wall is the long way around).
Now that I'm back in Room 7 (well, outside, technically), I go north and there are two walls to Rock Climb. The north one takes me into some grass and another hidden Rare Candy; the west one continues my ascent. From here, there are two ways forward. The first one is more straightforward; it's shorter but it goes through a lot of tall grass. The other is longer and requires HM Strength; I'm going to go that way. Push the boulder aside and go down two small stairs (going down one just leads back to the short way). Go all the way west, then down a third stair, and all the way to the east to snag a hidden Big Mushroom (lol). Double back, going up two stairs to go inside, to room 9.
Room 9 is inside. As you go in you'll notice two small rocks; the 2nd one has a TinyMushroom under it. There is not much else in it; it just leads upstairs into Room 10.
Room 10 is likewise small. There is a hidden Max Potion just behind the first grunt you see. Past that, directly south is a hidden Stardust. Past the second grunt is a staircase into Room 11.
Room 11 is the final room before the summit. There are no items in this room, only a single grunt guarding the way to try and stop you. Win and go onward to the final room, the Spear Pillar.
The Spear Pillar once again causes a shift in BGM, to something more dramatic still, with lots of bells and drums. Right at the top of those steps, there are two galactic grunts waiting, the final pair of Blah and Dork Void clones. They stop me only out of necessity, since they have to stall for time. I promise to make their deaths swift and painless. TorTERROR, however, does not, and shows little qualms in Earthquaking the crap out of them. They die a hero's death, kinda. Blah was still whining about hax, while Dork Void was only too glad to be put out of his misery for losing to me so many times.
YOU MAY NOW PAY ATTENTION, FOR THIS IS WHEN PLOT STARTS TO HAPPEN
Dead ahead of me, Zero is standing there, with Hurricane and Amt in the front. Needless to say, I'm going to assume I must fight them all, and I'm more than prepared for that. But no final scene would be complete without some dialogue...
<Zero> so you've come
<%DNA> Yes
<%DNA> I came
<Zero> what?
<%DNA> to this mountain
<Zero> oh
<%DNA> to put a stop to you
<Zero> that's nice
<Zero> do you even know what I'm planning to do?
<%DNA> No, and neither do you. Furthermore, no one cares. Remember, this is a POKEMON video game.
<%DNA> The villains are always nonsensical and inscrutable, and everything they do ends up failing miserably.
<%DNA> ...kinda like you in general, honestly.
<Zero> lol
<%DNA> and given how your clone army is utterly and completely gone, your defeat is not far off.
<Zero> we'll see
<Zero> for now, to have some fun
<Zero> Now, all will end. And everything will begin. With this Red Chain I will pry open the portal to another dimension.
<%DNA> reading from the script, eh? that's nice
<Zero> I command that you unleash your power for me... Palkia, the mythical Pokemon, and the master of space and dimensions!
<%DNA> okay where did the music go
<%DNA> and what's with that rainbow-colored sphere
*** Palkia has joined #spearpillar
*** Chanserv sets mode +a on Palkia
<%DNA> oh, that's why
<%DNA> ew the music is just drumbeats over and over; this is boring
<&Palkia> low budget
<%DNA> IS THAT THE EXCUSE FOR EVERYTHING IN THIS GAME
<&Palkia> yes
<%DNA> ffs
<Zero> ...This will bring about the destruction of all things. With everything gone, there will be no fighting and no strife. Feel the dimensions distorting... Only I can stop it.
Yes, most of what I'm going to write down for the lines are taken straight from the game's script, hence why Zero appears more inscrutable than normal. ...just a fair warning. It's partly because it's funny, and partly because I'm lazy.
I now see a cutscene that looks like a gigantic TV screen flooding the sky over Sinnoh. The red, green, and blue all look like very large elongated pixels. I expected more than this, but then again, low budget. Music changes for a bit, tempo increases slightly, and then it goes back to the boring drumbeat.
<Zero> This is the mythical Pokemon that created Sinnoh!
<Zero> Palkia, the ancient deity of space and the dimensions!
<%DNA> that's not Arceus you dweeb
<Zero> stfu it wasn't officially revealed in 2007
<%DNA> don't care; it's been indirectly referenced all game
<&Palkia> don't ruin my 5 minutes of screentime
<%DNA> fine, whatever
<Zero> This world cannot be molded into the ultimate world I seek! It's far easier to create an entirely new world than to change this one! A new world in which I am the ruler of all things! I shall become a deity!
<%DNA> a homeowner?
<&Palkia> lolouch
From here, it becomes impossible to turn back, but I don't care; I came all this way to kick ass and that is what I shall do. I walk forward, intent on smacking Hurricane and Amt around a bit and sending them out of this world.
<Hurricane> There's no need to rush. I can understand you want to battle our boss real bad, but you'll have to go through me first. After all, you've made me look bad more times than I care to remember!
<%DNA> so have you
<%DNA> zing
<Amt> And I'll be next. You might be tough, but this time, the gloves are coming off!
<%DNA> what, so now you're a rapist? I thought you had standards.
<Amt> what's up with the insults anyway?
<%DNA> it's what I do to people who read directly from the game script
*** Teapot has joined #spearpillar
*** Chanserv sets mode +v on Teapot
<+Teapot> Hold on one second!
<%DNA> why, did your mother finally let you out of the house?
<+Teapot> FFS DNA
<+Teapot> CAN'T YOU LET ME BE COOL FOR ONCE
<%DNA> you read from the game script, I zing you
<+Teapot> at least let me finish
<%DNA> fine
<+Teapot> k. ahem. ...Hold on one second! Don't you start the party without me!
<Amt> Humph! Well, if it isn't the little boy who ran off crying at Lake Acuity! Did you get any tougher since then? We'll beat you two-on-two!
<%DNA> is this what the whole game has led to? another hentai setup?
<Zero> LOL
<Zero> k hf you guys
<%DNA> I will, only because I'm too busy laughing
<+Teapot> dammit DNA stop making everything about yourself
<%DNA> never
* DNA straightens his fedora
*** DNA is now known as Hazama
<%Hazama> Now, let's begin.
Thus, the double battle with Hurricane and Amt begins. They each send out a lv. 41 Bronzor, which is kinda boring, to be honest. I lead with Thorne at lv. 42, and Teapot sends out a lv. 40 Munchlax. I remark he spent way too much time at honey trees to try and build a good OU team with Heracross and Snorlax. He gets mad and then we go fight. ...the commanders, not each other.
Thorne uses Brick Break on Hurricane's Bronzor, which takes off a chunk. They each use Extrasensory on a separate target, neither of which does much, while Munchlax flinches. lolfail. The second Brick Break KO's Hurricane's Bronzor, and Amt's Bronzor uses Rock Slide on both Teapot and I, not doing much. Munchlax gets off a Screech on the Bronzor.
Hurricane then sends out a lv. 45 Purugly. I focus on that first, since Bronzor is nothing to worry about, and CC it. Sadly, it outspeeds and hits Thorne with Aerial Ace, KOing her, so I don't get the chance to CC. To add insult to injury, Bronzor sets up a Reflect right after, though Munchlax Body Slammed the Purugly.. Crumpets replaces Thorne, and he uses Confuse Ray on the Purugly to buy some time. Sure enough, it hits itself, and then Crumpets dodges a Rock Slide, which Munchlax ended up flinching from. Ugh. Teapot, you suck.
Crumpets uses Cross Poison on Purugly, prompting it to eat its Sitrus Berry. It hits itself in confusion, again, while the Bronzor uses Extrasensory on Crumpets, for a fair amount. Munchlax Body Slams the Purugly, which almost knocks it out. I don't want to take a chance, so Crumpets immediately Bites it for the KO. Bronzor Rock Slides, almost KOing Crumpets, while Munchlax uses Body Slam.
Hurricane's last Pokemon is a lv. 42 Golbat. Not wanting to lose Crumpets, I toss him a Moomoo Milk, which he thanks me for and sips it down like a sir. I don't remember what the Golbat did next but I think it hit Munchlax. At this point, the Reflect wears off, and I have Crumpets use Wing Attack on Golbat, so it'll become 2-on-1. Bronzor steadily chips away with Extrasensory, and I wonder how much longer I can keep this up. I order another Wing Attack, which doesn't KO the Golbat quite, but Munchlax finishes the job with Body Slam. Sadly, Bronzor put up a Reflect again, so this is going to be pretty slow, but it won't be as one-sided. Teapot's Munchlax is also in the red, but it's lived for this long, so that's impressive.
I toss Crumpets another Moomoo Milk and he sips that down. The Bronzor uses Rock Slide, flinching Munchlax. Then, I have Crumpets use Confuse Ray, to stop the constant and very tiny assaults, but it doesn't work this turn as Crumpets gets hit with Extrasensory. Munchlax had stockpiled 1 earlier, and just now swallowed it. The next few turns is just Crumpets using Bite and making it flinch, plus Munchlax Screech driving its Defense down even further (to -4). At last, Bronzor is down.
Amt switches out to her lv. 46 Skuntank right away. I want to switch to TorTERROR, but I fear a Flamethrower, so I have Crumpets Confuse Ray to buy time, which he does, as Skuntank smacks itself. Munchlax uses Swallow again, this time with 2 stockpiles. Next turn, I tag out to TorTERROR, then Skuntank smacks out of confusion and Poison Jabs Munchlax, nearly KOing it. The turn after, Skuntank outspeeds and uses Flamethrower, taking off about half of TorTERROR's HP. I have him Earthquake, which DOESN'T KO it, scarily enough, though it does KO the already-wounded Munchlax.
Teapot next sends out his lv. 40 Staraptor. Smart man; now I can Earthquake with impunity. Staraptor goes first, with Take Down, and misses, while TorTERROR gets Flamethrowered into the red, but Earthquake smacks the Skuntank out of the picture. The final Pokemon of Amt's is a lv. 41 Golbat. TorTERROR can't do much, so I order Synthesis. Teapot switches out to Heracross (wat), and Golbat immediately uses Air Cutter, which smacks the Heracross for a lot. TorTERROR dodges, fortunately, allowing him to heal. Teapot's Heracross then uses Aerial Ace, hitting for about a third, Golbat uses Air Cutter for a fair amount, and I have TorTERROR heal again.
Seeing this not go much of anywhere, I tag out to Geist, who I had at the front for most of the mountain climb and is a little tired at this point. The cycle repeats, though the Air Cutter doesn't do much at all to Gengar. It does KO Heracross, however, prompting Teapot to send out a lv. 41 Buizel (wat). It doesn't get an attack, as Geist uses Shadow Ball right away and the fight is over. I get a crapton of money, because Crumpets had Amulet Coin.
<+Teapot> ...Heh. My Pokemon are tough, right? I can get even tougher! ...But, you know, that's it for us. We've hit the wall...
<%Hazama> speak for yourself; I still have a little bit of fight left
<+Teapot> yeah, a LITTLE
<+Teapot> know when to take a break, man
<+Teapot> you know what, DNA, I'll help you with this!
<%Hazama> haha
<%Hazama> get wrecked, nerd
<Zero> The Red Chain! It crumbled away to nothing?!
<Zero> But why?
<Zero> Why would Mesprit, the Pokemon of Lake Verity, appear by your side?
<%Hazama> Plot, probably.
<%Hazama> also this fedora is sexy
<Zero> this is true
<Zero> But never mind that! It's all destroyed! My galaxy is gone! ...I won't allow this... I will capture those three again and craft another Red Chain!
<Zero> But before I even think about that, I'm going to completely crush you!
<%Hazama> heheheheh, yes. Good, good! Come on, hate me! Hate me more!
<%Hazama> It will be all the more satisfying to watch you kneel before me!
<%Hazama> Come on, Zero! If you lose this fight, mark my words, I WILL cut your hair!
With my transformation sequence now at full troll power, and with stupidly long hair on the line, Zero flies into a rage and battles me. His first Pokemon to be sent out is a lv. 45 Honchkrow, which is higher than my highest-leveled Pokemon at this point (TorTERROR is still at 44). I lead with Thorne (since I don't have a chance to switch leads between fights), and I don't want to waste time, so I start with Close Combat. It takes off about 80%, and the crow's response, a crit Dark Pulse, does about the same. Zero uses a Super Potion (lol), while Thorne Brick Breaks to take off the last bit of its HP, bouncing back a bit with Shell Bell.
Next up is Zero's lv. 46 Crobat, which I respond to with my own Crobat (Crumpets) at lv. 43. Crumpets outspeeds (aw yiss) with a Confuse Ray, to make things a little more interesting, and immediately the opposing Crobat smacks itself. I then continue with Wing Attack, the first of which is a critical hit. The Crobat snaps out of confusion right away, though, and uses Air Slash for about 30%. Crumpets keeps it up, re-applying Confuse Ray, and again, the other Crobat smacks itself right away. The subsequent Wing Attack puts it in the red, but the Crobat gets a crit Cross Poison off for another 30% before going down.
His final is a lv. 48 Weavile. I switch to Thorne, who, although she's below half HP, if she scores a hit with Close Combat, it's gg. Weavile outspeeds, of course, and uses Night Slash, which puts Thorne in the low red, but Thorne gets the Close Combat off, so I win. Man, this was actually more challenging in Platinum.
Wait, I didn't notice he had a 4th Pokemon. I rescind that last statement. It's a lv. 45 Gyarados. I have Geist take it on, since he has a lot of experience fighting them - plus, it's the only special attacker I have on hand at present. Geist takes no chances, opening with Confuse Ray (yes I know Confuse Ray technically is a chance; now be quiet), after which the Gyarados hits itself. Shadow Ball takes off about 30%, while Gyarados' Ice Fang does just over half of Geist's HP, so I have to hope it hits itself again. Shadow Ball hits, though Gyarados gets its Ice Fang off, KOing Geist. It's in the red, though, which is good.
I switch in to TorTERROR, and much to my horror, Zero uses a Full Restore on Gyarados, ruining Geist's work. TorTERROR's Wood Hammer takes off more than half its HP, so another one and it's gg, though I must be wary of Ice Fang. Inexplicably, the Gyarados uses Aqua Tail, which only takes off about half of TorTERROR's health. The final Wood Hammer...*shades*...beat Gyarados to a pulp.
<TorTERROR> YYYYYEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHH!!!
TorTERROR levels up and tries to learn Crunch, so I delete Curse for it, to give him a few more options, since just Earthquake and Wood Hammer might end up in him being walled. If push comes to shove I can always relearn it later.
<Zero> ...!
<Zero> What is truly the ultimate to you? What do you consider perfection? The most beautiful thing... Joy that shines the brightest... ...Telling you is meaningless. But I will not give up.
<Zero> I will become a deity one day... And I will make the ultimate mine...
<%Hazama> that's nice
<%Hazama> but for now...
<%Hazama> Geist, grab him!
* Geist emerges from the shadows and grabs Zero
<Zero> didn't you faint!?
<Geist> that was just a ruse to sneak up behind you
<Zero> why would you...
* Hazama cuts all of Zero's hair off with his butterfly knife.
<Zero> NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
<%Hazama> And that's why you don't mess with Hazama!
*** Hazama kicked Zero from #spearpillar (I win; you lose!)
Shortly thereafter, Pride and Bellomence arrive. Pride notices Palkia, who is currently chillin' like a villain, and nudges me to go talk with it. It seems like it's waiting for me. Bellomence said that she ran into Teapot and she said he said he believed in me, and that I could get the job done. I was tempted to say 'well of COURSE he did', but I keep silent, because, you know, solemn moment and junk.
I try to leave, but I can't... Seems like this is a forced encounter.
<&Palkia> You.
<%Hazama> Me?
<&Palkia> Yeah, you.
<&Palkia> You seem like a pretty cool guy.
<&Palkia> I'm kinda mad that that Znub guy dragged me out here, so I need to let some steam off.
<%Hazama> wait, you want me to capture you?
<&Palkia> fight, capture, w/e, I don't care.
<&Palkia> I'm not getting much screentime and I'm just going to nap afterwards anyway, so do whatever you want.
<%Hazama> eh, whatever...
*** Hazama is now known as DNA
<%DNA> I've done what I needed to do. I don't really care much one way or the other either.
<%DNA> all I care about the awesome BGM you provide.
<&Palkia> That can be arranged.
* Palkia hits the music
And thus my favorite track in all of D/P begins. I keep the system on to listen to it for a while. I decide to just KO it since I don't care about catching it in this playthrough, and I really don't need one. If I need dex data, I'll just trade it over. Who knows? Maybe it'll respawn. But I doubt that.
brb as I just jam to the music
... ... ...
so since my team is in no shape to fight and I don't feel like hanging around (wow, I legitimately had a hard time for the first time in this entire run-through), I smash the crap out of Palkia. Crumpets gets KO'd, and so does TorTERROR, twice, in the process (once from being outsped, the other from Wood Hammer recoil). The fight ends with no exp payout, and Palkia 'returned to the world from which it came'. There's a small bit of dialogue; Pride remarked that I am amazing as usual, and Bellomence said that we should leave. I said I'd be okay and would catch up to them later.
I go to the back of the Spear Pillar and pick up the Lustrous Orb, just cuz. Then I go back down the mountain. I look back, but Pride and Bellomence have already gone. They probably used an Escape Rope. I'll just go back via Room 8, to complete my Coronet exploration. Here's how it goes:
Spear Pillar > Back into Room 11 > Down the stairs into Room 10 > Down the stairs into Room 9 > Outside into Room 7 > Down a small stair, then go due east > Up two small stairs, then use Strength > Up another small stair, use Rock Climb to descend a wall, then immediately go into Room 8 > Immediately Rock Climb down twice > Go down one small stair, smash some rocks > Keep going north, ignoring the Rock Climb wall > Go through the door into Room S1 > Oh, look, there's a TM02 Dragon Claw > and a hidden Hyper Potion right next to it > Keep going north > Use Strength to push the boulder aside
NOTE: This passage is ONE-WAY. If you push the boulder aside, and then exit this Room S1 to the outside or another room (anywhere except the way you came), you will NOT be able to go back that way; you will need to climb up the mountain again starting from room 1, if you want to go back there.
Crap; the only conscious members of my team right now are Thorne and Slave 2. I quickly pick up Slave 1 (Staravia), fly to Pastoria, and YES THIS PART IS FINALLY OVER NOW. TEAM GALACTIC IS GONE FOR GOOD.
except for the two grunts in Iron Island, who will only go away if you clear them out, but I did that a long time ago SO YES THEY'RE GONE NOW WHOO
actually there are still a few grunts and PMJ who are left at the Veilstone building but WHATEVER NO ONE CARES TEAM GALACTIC IS DEAD YEEEEEEAH
tune in for MY EXCITING ADVENTURES IN SUNYSHORE on the NEXT EPISODE OF DRAGON BALL Z POKEMON DOLO VERSION
End of Part 11! (freaking finally)
Two-on-two... Another hentai...
You made my day.
You should have tried to catch Palkia, though. I so wanted to see if you'd last.
I wouldn't have lasted; that's why I didn't catch it.
You're right, that really is awesome music.
Also, I award you with 3 props for being so methodical about Mt. Coronet. I hate Mt. Coronet so much because it angers my video game OCD so badly.
I know Coronet basically like the back of my hand, and I know people get very frustrated with it due to its sheer size and unusual path.
Might as well share the path I take so people don't get lost, yeah?
RE: DNA's Choose-My-Team Run-Through of Pokémon Pearl! Ch. 11 up!
Yeah, I'll probably reference back to this when I get my prize from the short story contest and begin another playthrough of Platinum. >_> <_<
DNA's Pokémon Pearl Dolo Run-Through
Chapter 12: Death to Anything With Smiley Faces
The fat guy at Valor Lakefront who kept blocking my walk into Sunyshore is gone now. Probably got over their blackout. Can't say the same for that one dude in X and Y. Route 222 is kinda boring, and short, honestly. But, after my gigantic mountain trek, I don't mind the change of pace. At the northwest bit of the route is a large patch of grass, which forks off into three small clearings. The middle one has a hidden Full Restore - finally, hidden items worth grabbing. I'm going to take my time, relishing the scenery and smacking around every trainer that comes my way. The junior trainers have Pokemon in the low 40s, so Aphrodite and Carlos have a lot of catch-up work to do, but it's all cool, since it doesn't take too long. Anything beats that boss rush. Sheesh. I can finally relax now.
Right off the bat, Aphrodite picks Muddy Water. She shoots me a wink. I choose to ignore it. She probably would have done (or said) more, but I haven't written many lines for her. Then again, a Naughty nature writes itself. Granted, Muddy Water will serve me well, since I like it over Surf for the potential accuracy drop, but it only has 85% accuracy itself. I hope that won't bite me in the behind later.
A few items lying around, though not much of note. The ones I'll bother to repeat are TM56 Fling, Carbos (req. Cut), Big Mushroom (hidden, req. Surf and Rock Smash), a fisherman who will give stuff out to people who catch him giant fish, and a man who's going for the Pokemon Championship with 6 Pikachu.
Wait, hold on; one of them is a little girl in a Pikachu suit.
/me calls child services
When I enter Sunyshore City, I walk in and see...Kevin?
<@Kevin_Garrett> oh, hi DNA
<%DNA> hey Kevin. Didn't expect to see you here, honestly.
<@Kevin_Garrett> same. What brings you here?
<%DNA> I've been everywhere else in Sinnoh already, and this place was next on my list.
<@Kevin_Garrett> then that means...
<@Kevin_Garrett> ah
<@Kevin_Garrett> you're just in time, then
<@Kevin_Garrett> the gym leader here has been pretty bored due to a lack of any challenge
<@Kevin_Garrett> can you do me a favor and fight him?
<@Kevin_Garrett> and make it really a good fight, not just something totally one-sided.
<%DNA> that sounds doable. Sure, I can do that.
<@Kevin_Garrett> sweet.
<@Kevin_Garrett> I've got to go; see you around. Good luck.
*** Kevin_Garrett has left #sunyshore
Wonder who the gym leader is. Maybe it's Kevin himself? Who knows? Well, I'll find out later. For now, sightseeing. The city is arranged into two 'floors', upper and lower. The upper level is a system of sidewalks with solar panels underneath them, which is where the city gets its power from, when they're not having a blackout, I'm guessing.
One main attraction at the north of the city is the Sunyshore Market. There are two people of note here: the first is a Seal merchant, whose stock is different based on the day of the week; the second is a lady who gives out Effort Ribbons to your Pokemon with 510 EVs. I check everyone while I'm here, and turns out no one is eligible yet. Heh, some growing to go still, apparently.
Jasmine of Olivine City is at the north end of the city, and remarks that if I don't have the gym badge from here, I'll have to turn back (this is referencing that the route north of here, which is over water, has a waterfall at the end). On the upper level, the gym is inaccessible until the AWOL gym leader returns. I also learn that Zero's originally from here, from a house in the upper right of town. Another house in the upper right has a woman named Julia, who will give the Pokemon in the lead of your party a Ribbon if you tell her a story, which is different based on the day of the week.
On the east end of town, there's a rock shaped like a Munchlax, a Thunderstone down below, and a house accessible via Rock Climb with a guy that gives you Poketch apps if you show him a Pokemon with a specific nature. Here's the stuff he gives out for which natures (note, they have to be done in order):
  • Serious nature - App 17 (Calendar)
  • Naive nature - App 18 (Dot Artist)
  • Quirky nature - App 19 (Roulette)
I spend a lot of time filling up my Unown collection while looking for the natures I don't have. Yay, productivity! ...and yes, I finished the Unown collection (the 26 letters). When that happens, the Ruin Maniac Cave is extended to its full length and becomes the Maniac Tunnel. There are no other items except for the one already at the start, and at the end, there's a chamber of the Solaceon Ruins where the ! and ? Unown forms may be caught. It leads outside, but there's no way out except for back the way you came, unless you use Fly.
And yet after all that I STILL do not have a Pokemon with a Serious nature. brb ragequit trade-over
The final thing is the lighthouse, at the southeast of town. The gym leader, who bears an interesting resemblance to Zilla, states that if he beats me in a battle, he's going to challenge the Pokemon League, then tells me to go to the gym, where he'll be waiting. I have my challenge now, so I head to the gym, say hi to The-Kaiser at the gym's entrance for the last time, and tackle the maze ahead of me.
This is definitely a puzzle I like more. Pressing the buttons makes the gears rotate to create different paths; green buttons rotate 90 degrees counterclockwise, blue buttons rotate 90 degrees clockwise, while red ones rotate 180 degrees. They aren't too difficult, they just take a while and some walking around.
One of the trainers made the mistake of having her Raichu use Dig when TorTERROR was active. The funeral was held the following day. Heck, even here, there are few Electric types, much like the gym before. This is frustrating.
<%DNA> !challenge
<@GODZILLA> ...All right, challenger. It's not often, but some Trainers manage to come and challenge me. But they've all been boring battles. I didn't break a sweat beating them.
<@GODZILLA> ...Sigh... I'm GODZILLA, the Gym Leader. They say I'm the top Gym Leader in Sinnoh, but... Anyway, I guess we'd better get this done. I hope you're the Trainer who'll make me remember how fun it is to battle!
<%DNA> two things
<%DNA> one, I have TorTERROR on my side, so this is going to be fun
<TorTERROR> yo
<%DNA> and second, of course the fights will be easy to win when GODZILLA is the gym leader
<%DNA> seriously, who in their right mind challenges a giant monster
<@GODZILLA> ...Good point.
<@GODZILLA> Well, shall we?
<%DNA> Gladly.
Zilla opens with a lv. 46 Raichu, who is 1 level higher than my highest, TorTERROR, which I lead with. No big deal; level difference doesn't always equate with victory, but with things like TorTERROR on my side, it becomes a lot easier. Raichu goes first and uses Brick Break, for...not very much. TorTERROR unleashes his Earthquake, and instantly Zilla is down one. Next he sends out a lv. 47 Octillery, which I leave TorTERROR in against. He goes first, with Wood Hammer, which is easily an OHKO, though the recoil takes him to half HP.
Zilla then goes straight to his strongest, a lv. 49 Luxray. TorTERROR is not even remotely intimidated, and outspeeds it with Earthquake for, you guessed it, a knocko-...wait it's in the red WHAT; it shouldn't have survived that. Then it uses Crunch, which puts TorTERROR in the red. I use another Earthquake, taking Luxray out of the picture; due to the Sitrus Berry, it went above red, and the AI didn't think to use a healing item. Lastly, Zilla moves to his final, his lv. 47 Ambipom. I send out Thorne instead. The Ambipom opens with Agility, which I smirk at, because...
<Thorne> close combat gg
* Ambipom fainted
<@GODZILLA> Wow, talk about one-sided.
<@GODZILLA> I was no match for TorTERROR.
<%DNA> yeah...D/P is one-sided in a lot of places. Gyarados, Bronzong, TorTERROR...
<@GODZILLA> Ain't that the truth.
<@GODZILLA> Let's see, now I must give you...
* GODZILLA checks a list.
<@GODZILLA> The Beacon Badge, unlimited authority over all traded Pokemon, permission to use Waterfall outside of battle, and TM57 Charge Beam. Here you go. Use them well.
<%DNA> Thank you, good sir.
<@GODZILLA> You may have beaten the eight that Pride cast as Gym Leaders, as well as stopped Team Galactic...
<@GODZILLA> But don't forget, the Elite Four are stronger still. Don't get complacent.
<@GODZILLA> Good luck, DNA. May you and your team truly embody the spirit of dolo.
<%DNA> Your words honor me, sir. I shall do just that, and make you all proud. Farewell!
aw yiss 8 gym badges
I head back to the Pokemon Center and we have a party. There is much snackage, tea, celebration, and of course, Mike's Hard Lemonade. It is a great occasion for all the hard work we have accomplished, but it's not over yet. There is still work to be done. As soon as TorTERROR and Thorne sober up (which takes quite a long time, actually), we head north to Route 223 to, at the very least, reach the entrance to Victory Road. First things first: don't forget to snag HM07 Waterfall from Jasmine before going onward, otherwise you'll have to turn back, and that's no fun.
Route 223 is long by virtue of the fact that surfing speed is incredibly slow in this game. It's not all that large, honestly. I should note that there's a side path just south of the first male swimmer that has TM18 Rain Dance at the end, and that said swimmer is a disciple of Master Bacon. O u O
While surfing on this route, I have to point out that trying to catch a Mantyke is EXTREMELY unpleasant, due to its stupidly low catch rate. It seriously needs to go die. If you like Mantyke at all, I will eat you alive. Now please excuse me while I apply Revives to my whole team and buy about 15 worth of each Poke Ball to replenish the ones I lost. I finally caught the damn thing, but at this point, it's KO'd every one of my team save TorTERROR and Thorne.
Seriously, words fail me at how much detest I have for it from wasted time, wasted inventory, and steady damaging of all of my team, and for what!? FORTUNATELY, there was only 1 other trainer after that, and after that was the large waterfall that led to the entrance to Victory Road. This part has been long enough, and on top of which I need to relax after that traumatic encounter with the death ray, so let's cut it here. Next part, the trek to the league.
I was going to make a dirty joke here, but I guess I should leave that for Aphrodite.
Instead, for my final words, I'd just like to point out that you probably shouldn't trust Ice Jackal with the little girl.
RE: DNA's Choose-My-Team Run-Through of Pokémon Pearl! Ch. 12 up!
Considering how I'm treating you, Athena, that really hurts my feelings. Have I ever done anything to you? :(
But whatever. The little girl can look forward to a life wearing that hideous Pikachu outfit.
Naw, you just need to know when to take a joke. :p And there's nothing wrong with cosplay! >.>
