Do people always complain about the meta?

It seems like a bunch of people are up in arms about the metagame.

I've been playing since April. I like trying to make my decks unique, and have developed a playstyle of my own now, and am relatively competent with the game and the current card-pool.

So here's the thing. Me and my girl friend started constructed the big meta decks, to at the very least practice against, and I've found that I have a decent liking for alot of these decks. It doesn't really deminish the fun of the game to play a meta-deck.... but my girlfriend REALLY hates zekrom now, lol.

I mean, if the game is still fun to me, what are these people seeing? What am I not seeing?

A Mamoswine TM deck won't work. Zekrom and Reshiram are good cards that make up a big chunk of the meta. Its just kinda the way things work right now.

Will I be this angry when all the HS stuff rotates?

Lol alot of people complain that some of the cards are broken...like Pokemon Catcher which isn't broken. Also people are mad that they can't play the same deck they have played for 3 seasons...LuxChomp. This is a very good format. Alot of potential for anything really to become competitive.

Everyone complains about everything constantly. You will miss HGSS-on after sets get rotated. I still miss DP on. This format has been my least favorite so far, but I think Noble Victors (or whatever) will fix that.

People complain about EVERYTHING and ANYTHING. It gets so annoying, EVERY rotation EVERY new set. Sure you'll miss the deck that you've played for a whole year, but there will be new ones next rotation. People need to learn to get over it. Every year this happens. People say they'll quit, they hate the sets, the cards are too good, and yet people continue playing. They just need to learn to deal with it.

I can't believe people by one deck for a whole season. I went to 8 tourneys last season, and changed decks 6 times :/

That must be why people dislike rotation so much, they don't have enough deck building experience.

Actually, if you are very strong with a deck and its still very viable, its an amazing decision to stick with it. The reason so many people hated the Nats/Worlds format was due to coin flips deciding games. I haven't played any games at all of the HGSS-EP, so I can't judge the new format. The format at Nats was imo, better than Worlds. The decks winning were just more interesting. I found it more exciting to play HGSS on before and at Nats. Worlds was terrible for that. People dislike rotation because their favorite cards and decks were rotated. As far as tearing people down for playing SP, it was the deck with the most even matchups with everything, I "miss" it because I won several events with it, but its gone, it had its run. As far as not having deck building experience. Its a challenge to discover new engines and cards in new formats. I doubt you discovered a perfect engine by yourself.

This. Holy lords this. I mean I understand change isn't always cool and that everyone has different play styles/opinions/etc, but the petulance when new sets come out is enough to melt your brain into mush if you can sift through the arguing.

It's why I've taken such a shining to getting to know the Japanese player base. They just adapt. They make decks and strats through the latest cards for simply variety, and I seldom see such bickering. In fact I often see more nurturing than bickering. "Hey I made this crazy deck with weird cards what do you think?" "Well that's pretty insane, if you added x, y, z and subbed out a, b, c that could be a potential great."

But that's just my 2c ;)

A lot of people look at change in the wrong way. They see change threatening to thier pet decks or favorite strategies. When change comes along, they gripe about it and talk about whatever is wrong with it. The truth is, no format can please everyone. And for all the people who have decks hurt/crippled by a change in format, they might just rant about it or even quit. What you have to do is embrace the change. Just accepting the change and changing your deck is fine (and neccessary), but if you really embrace the change and not just bear it but love it and do your best no matter what it takes, change wont be a big deal and you will be better off than the people that go crazy whenever they rotate sets/ bring in huge cards s.a. catcher. You just have to adapt. I enjoy learning new strategies. If you just want to live in the past, you wont survive the future. Trust me.

People always complain about the metagame, and then talk about how good it was several years ago. I, personally, see several similarities between this years format and my favorite, DX-on. Set up times are slower, and rogue decks can do very well. Just get used to people always complaining...

I have, and still will complain about rotation or a certain format, but it's not like it's the end of the world for me, I get over it.

People complain for whatever reason they want. If they don't like something, obviously everyone else should know.

Sometimes, though, their complaints are reasonable (i.e Reshiram/Zekrom are stupid, Catcher, first turn imba).

People will always complain about every meta. Only this meta is actually reasonable to complain about....

People always have different opinions, so get used to the complaining. The format's too fast, too slow, Stage 2 decks are OP, Stage 1 decks are OP, Basics are OP, this card is OP, these two cards together are OP, the BDIF makes me hate the game, that card that's coming out is going to be OP and I'm quitting (but not really), there's not enough creativity this format, this format is too wide and that makes testing hard, this card will only help this deck which is already OP, I hate this game...
There's always some of that. Get used to it, ignore the griping, and it'll become background noise.

Everyone complains about some aspect of a format for some reason. I actually am not a fan of this current format, but I'll live. I think the main reason why I don't like it is because it is a lot more luck-based now.

In both DP-on and MD-on a lot more skill was involved, and you had several good T/S/S to choose from. That, and the player going first could not play T/S/S, so going second could actually work out in your favor. You wouldn't attack first, but you'd get set up a bit faster. It was actually a fair trade for going second.

Now you can play T/S/S first turn again. That in itself gives the player going first a HUGE advantage, and the player going second? Tough luck for you buddy. I won the flip.

I actually didn't hate this format until Worlds came along, when Yanmega and Magnezone became all-encompassing. Then I thought what would happen if Catcher happened and I became even MORE depressed. The following week I talked with my friend about it and he just told me to 'adapt to the format and run Switch'. So I'm back in the swing of things again, and Switch is a great help for my deck. (It might very soon become a staple.)

Yes, we miss old formats and there's always SOMETHING about the new format we don't like, but until time machines are invented we will just have to suck it up and keep on going.

Pokemon players do complain a lot about the format, no matter what format is current.

However, this format is actually reasonable to complain about. Honestly, it's stale. DNA hit a gold point.

The format is stale. We have about five or so good decks that outclass everything, allowing for NO new ideas. Reshiram Emboar/Typhlosion, Magnezone Yanmega, Donphan Yanmega, Zekrom, and Magnezone Emboar. And notice how most of them contain either Magnezone, Yanmega, or one of the Dragons? We have a few overpowered cards in this format that allow for nothing else.

So, in short, you will get a lot of complaining, but there's often a reason behind it.

Alright, I may have overlooked that. But, even after it's showing at Worlds, it's still failed to capture the interest of players, thus not working its way into the meta. We will have to wait for Battle Roads to see, though.

And even at that, it's main attackers appeared to be Donphan and Zekrom, with numerous other techs. Even though it was a new idea, it wasn't using new cards unseen to the meta.

^Very true. I do agree that for the most part this meta is made up by a small number of great decks, but I believe that it is not dry in that there are still possibilities that do well but aren't largely popular.
