Don't know if this belongs here, but whatever.

Lately I've been seeing people who care too much about winning, and although it doesn't bother me too much, I'm sure it bothers some people. I know some people play to make friends and have fun at the same time. The reason I joined the TCG was because my brother wanted someone to help him play, and I joined myself after a bit of time.

So does it bother you too much that people don't play Pokemon, but just to win? Do you play to win yourself, or do you just play to troll for fun?

I'm a very competitive player, so I mostly play to win, but I make sure to have fun in the process. Also it doesn't really bother me when some people play ONLY to win, but when they make it obvious, I find it obnoxious.

I always play to win in tournaments, but at league usually play for fun.

This is a very difficult question. Everyone (as in everyone who realizes this is a competitive game) plays to win to some extent, some just more than others, because everyone wants to win. I have winning on the back-burner when I go to tournaments, but I guess my view on it isn't very valid since I've only been to Battle Road's and Cities. I do plan on making a States and a Regionals this year, so in that situation, I'd definitely play to win. But it's always a fun time whether I win or lose, so its all good.

I play for fun. I don't usually win, but when I do I'm happy. :) I mean, unless your only playing the game to beat others, you're probably playing for fun.

I play to win although losing doesn't bum me out too much unless its to the same matchup constantly.

still not forgiving Durant

Winning is fun. I play to win because its fun. Plus what is wrong about pushing yourself to be the best and win? I don't get disheartened when I lose though; I have no reason to. It's usually my fault.

Fun is primary. Everything else is secondary.
Nothing is more fun than watching your opponent's face after you succeed on a V-Blast.
Nothing.

I play to win, primarily. However, that's fun to me. I like being in a very competitive game, so I play to win to have fun.

That's the greatest thing about Pokemon. You PLAY to WIN the game.

HELLO?!

You PLAY to WIN the game. You don't play to just play it.

That's the greatest thing about Pokemon. You play to win & I don't care if you don't have any wins, you play to win.

You start telling me it doesn't matter, then get out, because it matters.

This whole conversation bothers me.

Props to anybody who gets that. I'm sorry, but I just couldn't resist.

Going first with a successful T1 Plume fossil is way better.

That happened to me once. Someone went first and got a T2 Archeops on me with a Kyurem active.
I scooped.

I disagree with Celebi23. If we all just play to win, why would there be leagues. I don't know about you but I go to legue to 1. Have fun 2. Get playtesting. Okay, my rage is done. :p

Edit: Although I do enjoy the Tournament scene.

I mainly play for fun with my buddies but I also enjoy going to a tourney and winning.

I play to win, fun is just a side effect. Sometimes I mess around a little bit during play, but I focus on winning more than having fun, because I actually don't have as much fun if I do poorly at a tournament. That sounds kinda weak, I have fun either way, but I have more fun when my friends and I are doing well, than when we are all like 2-3. When I am testing with friends, I play for fun, and experience is a side effect, as opposite to when I am at tournaments.

I'm in the same boat as Vulpix. I play to win, but every now and then I'd play a few fun games with friends using fun decks.

It was a joke. It's from a YouTube video.

I play to win in tournaments and in playtesting. It's all serious in these situations. Playing is fun, but playing and winning is more fun. At league and stuff, I play for fun. I make abnormally risky plays because I can, since that's more fun. I'll try out crazy decks and not worry about how well I do, since it doesn't affect my rating.

Celebi wasn't being serious when he said that.

edit: NOOOOOOOOOOO

I'm glad to see you guys aren't cocky jerks who think winning is the best thing in the world, and you can mess around sometimes. XP I'm pretty much in the same boat as all of you, but I have less experience with the TCG as a whole, I guess I'm here to have fun, but win sometimes.

LOL!

Fun is important. I played EelZone at a Cities, got locked by VVV, knew I was done for, then proceeded to use successful Thundershocks 4 straight followed by Electric Ball (Eel's attack) for a Vanilluxe KO. That was more fun than any win I ever have had.
