I realize I didn't say so specifically, but just in case:
Nobody waiting in the clearing heard anything unusual from the forest.

Drifloon is defeated! Swablu, hurt, tries to figure out the best way back to the clearing. Does she continue heading back? Or move forward again?
The banging sound seems to be coming from that direction.
The area darkens quickly, and soon he can't make out which direction he had come from.
Should he attempt to head back?
Try as I might @wonderful_whismur I just couldn't make your quote work for whatever reason. Ah well.
Noibat wanders down the sloping path, but stops before leaving line of sight of the others. The path is too dark to continue forward, even for a bat.
The sun is setting.

Litwick moves to take a look at the sculpted items. Like the others, he can't make out what they are supposed to be, due to wear over the time they must have been down here. No symbols or markings can be found on them.@Keeper of Night Mitsh uses his flame to carefully inspect the statues, and determine their shapes and any odd markings.
Swablu uses Disarming Voice!

So I'm thinking that maybe I should use Acrobatics to climb a tree and check out our surroundings as best as I can.@Keeper of Night
Chimchar and Cutiefly climb a nearby tree. As they reach the top, they're left more confused than ever. On every side is nothing but trees. They can't even make out the sun from here, or where the clearing should have been. A thick fog surrounds the edges of their vision.i float to the treetops @Keeper of Night , letting out a soft light for any stragglers to see.
Bagon launches a flame down the sloping path. It shows off several stalactites hanging from the ceiling, but nothing else.@Keeper of Night
I use a flamethrower to light up the right bend
The banging sound seems to be coming from that direction.
Rowlett, thinking he must have heard Swablu's battle, runs into the forest in front of him.@Keeper of Night I'll head into the forest
The area darkens quickly, and soon he can't make out which direction he had come from.
Should he attempt to head back?
Duskull heads back to the rest of the group, leaving the dark end of the cave.@Keeper of Night This path is too dark, even with the occasional flamethrower burst, so I am heading back to the main group by the statues until Litwick is ready to light the way.
Klink floats back to the rest of the group underneath the hold in the ground.@Keeper of Night I'll follow the Duskull.
Phanpy attempts again to build a staircase into the open hole above him. Try as he might, the mud continues to slide around, unable to take shape.@Keeper of Night I'd like to build up mud slowly using Mud Slap to form a staircase out of the pit.

Vulpix walks toward the statue that she had seen glow earlier. She nudges it, but nothing happens. The glow seems invisible now that Litwick is lighting the area. Is this the right statue?@Keeper of Night
I'll blow on the mud that was so rudely splashed onto me to cake it and let it fall off. Then, I'll walk to the statue that gave off the yellow glow.
The statues are along the base of the dead-end wall on your left.Well, the statue that was glowing yellow, that's with the other statues, in the passage on the left?
Spoink follows behind Vulpix as she inspects the statue, and looks up. In Litwick's light she counts three large claw marks across the wall in front of them.@Keeper of Night I will accompany Vulpix further down the passage (while being careful not to get any more mud on her), and try to count the claw marks using all the counting abilities that a Spoink possesses.
The sun is setting.
