E3 2012 Discussion Thread

No Chariblaze they could of showed a teaser or something the logo i would of been happy enough with. But Pikimin 3 looks awesome though ( New Pikmin) But even if the 3ds presser is good it can not save Nintendo performance. The presser was really disappointing they showed Lego City right that's really for the core player, Batman ac guys 10 million people have already played that game. The controller is meh. They wanted to talk more about netflix, hulu, and Nintendo land or park or what ever that was over the core Nintendo games i love. Show something interesting please, they had E3 by the throat and they screwed it up. Where is retro? I dont think Nintendo knows what they are doing or are just so dang arrogant that they feel that it will just sell because its an Nintendo system.

Speculation on my part, of course, but: A name hasn't even been decided on, and teasers take a good chunk of time to make, not counting that a roster isn't decided on. The 3D models would have to be done. There's literally nothing to show.

The presser was really disappointing they showed Lego City right that's really for the core player,

It is.

Batman ac guys 10 million people have already played that game.

I haven't. Many haven't.

Show something interesting please,

In my eyes, they did.

they had E3 by the throat and they screwed it up.

In my eyes, they didn't.

Where is retro?

Busy, with nothing to show yet.

I don't think Nintendo knows what they are doing

Ok.

or are just so dang arrogant that they feel that it will just sell because its an Nintendo system.

Have you seen the Iwata Asks with Eguchi?

Anyway. Looking forward to the 3DS conference. I hope Animal Crossing 3D has some actually new content & hoping for a release date.
I played AC:LGttC for 1h and never touched it again. >__> It was just like AC:WW and the city was a ridiculous slap-on just for the name. But I would love to play a FRESH AC with the 3DS' better online & Street Pass functions. :3

As I've said before, one of the things I was looking forward to seeing this E3 was how so-called "hardcore" fanboys will find even more ridiculous ways to dismiss anything Nintendo showcases because they're "too mature" to enjoy something all-age friendly.

Finally Nintendo comes right out and gives pretty much every hardcore gamer exactly what they want, and in return all they get is snarky blog posts, dismissive attitudes, and cries of "foul" if anything casual shows up on the screen. Am I the only one noticing this?

First, hardcore gamers seem to be completely blind when it comes to titles that interest them, instead choosing to bitch and moan about casual games that aren't for their demographic. Listen up, geniuses, if the Kinect and Move haven't opened your eyes up yet, casual gaming is now a viable market whether you like it or not. It's OK to have more than one demographic represented, especially when it's advertising for a brand new console.

Second, the one thing hardcore gamers DO seem to like is the new Pro-Controller which looks like a retooled black X-Box controller. What annoys me about that is it just goes to further highlight how stubborn and hostile to change "hardcore" gamers actually are. Here you have this fancy new tablet controller which can be used to display in-game maps and statistics, has 2 analogue buttons that can click, uses the camera to track your facial movements, can send messages, be drawn on, and streams in HD... and "hardcore" gamers are excited about the X-Box knockoff controller that can't do ANY of that and is an add-on peripheral. Does that add up?

Third, the attitude towards the games. "Oh, ANOTHER Mario game? Oh, Pikmin 3? Oh what's that? Batman Arkham Asylum on a Nintendo platform? Pffhh, that's like a year old now... Oh look, another minigame collection? Go figure, Nintendo." Ugh... Meanwhile everyone goes nuts for Microsoft unveiling Halo 4. Does anyone else see this weird attitude shift?

To me, this is an amazing feat by Nintendo. Not only do they have hardcore titles you don't expect to see on Nintendo systems (like Mass Effect 3, Batman, Darksiders 2, Assassins Creed 3, Aliens Colonial Marines, Ninja Gaiden 3, Tekken), but we're also getting key Nintendo Franchises (New Super Mario Bros U, Pikmin 3) good 3rd party support (Ubisoft, Rocksteady Studios, Square Enix, Bioware, Gearbox) and casual games (Lego City Undercover, Scribblenauts Unlimited, siNG, Wii Fit U) which amounts to quite a wide variety of titles that anyone can enjoy. And most of those will be available for launch too.

Yes I understand that many of those "hardcore" titles are ports of already established games, but that shouldn't matter right now. What should matter is that they're ON a friggin' Nintendo console to begin with. If you can get Mass Effect on a Nintendo machine, certainly you can expect other Bioware games to debut there as well, no? Same goes for Rocksteady and Gearbox. Even though these are ports, it shows that the support IS there and that these developers will be making games for the Wii-U. That's a GOOD thing, isn't it?

Finally, the tech specs. There have been rumors and complaints that if Nintendo doesn't comply by certain arbitrary tech specs, the system will fail (which is obviously bunk logic to begin with since the Wii succeeded with weaker tech specs than the Xbox and Ps3 but whatever), and now Nintendo has finally confirmed a lot of them. Yes the console will be in HD supporting 1080p, 1080i, 720p and so on. It will have internal flash memory which can be expanded via SD memory cards and USB hard disk drives (4 USB slots exist on the console). It will have Near Field Communication (NFC), a video camera, Bluetooth, rumble, speakers and microphones in the gamepad along with accelerometer and gyroscope features, and be compatible with all previous Wii controllers and games. It will be launching with an eShop built in already (something the 3DS lacked), and can stream Netflix, Hulu, and Amazon Instant Video.

Even with all of that... "meh, it's just a Wii knockoff" according to many bloggers and video game journalists.

I dunno guys. I just don't get it. For me it seems like Nintendo has made the ultimate system to appease everyone. It's got the hardcore games and the power to play them. It's got the Pro Gamer controller for those immature "hardcore" gamers who can't be seen playing with the tablet. It's got the family friendly titles mom and dad will enjoy. It's got the core Nintendo franchises (and one in particular that hasn't been seen in 10 years). It's got online interactivity and social connectivity like no other console has outside the 360. It's got the also-rant apps and features you'd come to expect (and then some). And it looks very well designed and put together. Knowing Nintendo, too, it won't be plagued by red rings or startup errors the way the Ps3 and 360 did upon launch.

So...why do so many people seem to feel the need to go to such lengths to mock and dismiss it? The system is even going to be available in black. No more casual friendly white! What else does Nintendo have to do to please the "hardcore" gamers?

Edit 2: No AC? o_O Oh well... NSMB2 is looking really good! And Paper Mario must be good too, since... Paper Mario.

Ehh, to be honest nothing really good was shown in the 3DS Showcase. They just talked about LOTS of third-party games, and about the Nintendo games we already heard about.

This E3 is kind of bland, but i'm still excited for some stuff.

Well I understand I'm on a fanboy site :3 but I like nintendo I just wish they had a good showing and if u believe it was a good presser than you are blind and just refuse to realize it. I'm not saying Nintendo is a bad company. They are just wasting there time on casual games and that sort of stuff. It hurts though the wii u has nothing I want for me to buy it there us nothing special about it other than a tablet controller. There are no special games for it that says omg I need that because I want to play xxxxxxx
There was just nothing there that was great for me now I'm not saying they can't make up on it with a Zelda or a new ssb but as of now Nope.

Sigh, the new SSB will come like in 2 or 3 years. Please understand X_x
Im really excited for Sticker Star, NSMB2, and the Wii U and some of its games. :D

No, I just have a different opinion.

They are just wasting there time on casual games and that sort of stuff.

Pre-2011 financial figures say otherwise.

It hurts though the wii u has nothing I want for me to buy it there us nothing special about it other than a tablet controller.

There is much more, but no matter.

There are no special games for it that says omg I need that because I want to play xxxxxxx

In my eyes, there are many.

There was just nothing there that was great for me now

"Great for me" being the keywords.

Chariblaze, there no point in responding to someone that is only speaking in completely subjective terms with no facts. Such a worthless argument doesn't deserve recognition.

@Teal - I guess Animal Crossing: Jump Out was all they want to focus on at the moment, considering its release is planned to be sometime this year.

I missed the 3DS conference :[

Someone care to give me a rundown of what happened, what was announced, etc?

Mm.

  • Non-specific action figure made an appearance.
  • Castlevania got a trailer.
  • Some people talked about Castlevania and Scribblenauts.
  • Luigi's Mansion got a trailer, available in 3D on the eShop. Also, it'll be downloadable.
  • Paper Mario was demoed by a cool guy.
  • Lego Batman 2 has a demo, available now.
  • Threediots is a new series on Nintendo Video, looks like it's produced by the Nintendo Week people.
  • New Super Mario Bros. 2 was demoed, co-op mode confirmed, August 19th release (already announced I believe).
  • Probably more stuff.

If anyone here cares, Fire Emblem Awakening also got secretly announced post the 6pm conference.

Without this, the 3DS conference was a giant waste of time. And yet, I still feel cheated.

Yeah you are right it is my opinion, maybe I just got too hyped for Nintendo and expected too much from them. But only time will tell.

Castlevania and Fire Emblem are great to see. Shame they didn't even take advantage of Fire Emblem during the showing...

Hasn't changed my opinion of Nintendo at E3 this year. The 3DS lineup looks fantastic, but we knew most of these titles were going to be coming out for a while now. Nintendo Land was just such a huge failure to end the whole conference with, I'll never forget my disappointment at the end seeing that. Oh well. There's always next year.

dmaster out.

Pokemon B2W2 as mentioned! Scott said that we are just a few months from the launch of Pokemon B2W2!!!!! Did he secretly reveal the release month when he said that?? Few is only about 2 or 3 months, and since this is June, we may very well get the games in September!!!!

I hope so because we all know or feel that Ps4 and the xbox 720 will be coming out so Nintendo needs to bring their A game next year.

Apparently its because they haven't began translating it. It wasn't even supposed to be announced until later, because they had nothing to show. But Reggie had a slip up and now we have this glorious news. :] Speaking of Awakening, it'll be the first Nintendo game to have paid DLC. 'bout time Nintendo.

If Awakening comes out after Christmas, then at least it won't have to compete with Paper Mario for my 3DS time. But now to find something to play in between now and Christmas. If only the 3DS library didn't suck right now.

Yeah, I did hear they only had like Japanese text, info coming later, etc. I mean, I'm pleased to see it is coming out (eventually...), but I still think they should have taken advantage of their huge 3DS showcase where all they really did was show games they stuffed into their conference that ended up taking away focus from Wii U. But whatever, still good to see a new game.

dmaster out.
