I live in the #1 best voted city to live in and I am embarrassed that I play. So I guess that feeling is everywhere.

lol none of my friends know that i play pokemon.
but it would sort of destroy my social life if everyone knew. people are harsh these days

^^ yeah same! I mean your a total outcast if you play any of that. The only thing that is appropriate is if you "baby-sit" with that stuff, so i just say that I have to baby-sit kids who play pokemon and i have to help them figure out the puzzles lol...

But seriously, the way I think is, if they mock you, then really, what do they have to gain from it? A few laughs from feeling like a jerk? Please, at a teenage age, you'd think they'd gotten over the immaturity issues when they entered High School. Yet surprisingly in College you don't get this kinda stuff.

All my friends know that I love pokemon but 2 of them like it alot and one of them is the 'leader' of the group. I used to think that if my friends came over they would be really embarresed until I went over to one their houses and there was a giant pikachu toy. People have started to ask for info on pokemon from me so yeah its good being a pokemon fan. Although I would hide my stuff if ever there was a girl coming round who didnt know I liked pokemon.

Well, I am not too embarrassed to play Pokemon, but doesn't mean I broadcast it everywhere. ;f

Yeah I wouldnt broadcast it everywhere either. People would think your trying to press your pokemon skills on them and are trying to make them a poke fan. This they would not like.

I try to hide it because if it is something all the "popular group" doesn't like, it is considered uncool, no matter how much fun it is to me or anyone else. My school is one of those that is based like that, and I really hate it. Just because you like something different gives no reason to be made fun of.

Right on...exactly the same in my school...

And mine.

Not mine. This is only because most of the 'cool kids' are literal idiots. I don't to hide it, I'm good at ignoring people. Most of my friends became my best friends through this:

Me:I like Pokémon.
Them:eek:_O I do to!

Not anymore... I just hang around my friends and just ignore them if they call it dumb or whatever...

Kids are such jerks. I'm 23 and still play pokemon. I'm no poke geek, but i still take joy in playing the games. They remind me of my childhood as I was a child when Pokemon first became huge; both the card game and the games. I remember that my middle school banned kids from bringing pokemon cards to school as they caused so much of a distraction. I played the TCG until i was a freshman in high school. I'll admit that as i got into high school, i started to dislike it and make fun of those that did. I felt ashamed as I tried to convince myself the games were childish. Pride sets in and tells you that you shouldn't do childish things so that you look mature and fit in with the rest of the crowd. As you become older, pride starts to erode as you try to do things that remind you of your childhood. For instance, many of my friends and I started to play daimond and pearl when it came out because when hadn't played a pokemon game in forever and wondered how good it would be. Then platinum became a hit and we got hooked on that. Some of us also started playing the TCG again when a friend of mine and his girlfriend got bored around January this year and decided to look through some old cards and play a few games. They slowly got me and my friend Dan hooked as they found the game to be fun. Btw, my friend Dan is 24. Sure we feel embaressed for doing so, but we have fun playing the games and the TCG, so it really doesn't matter what other people think. Most of our other friends make fun of us for it, but we get along so well that it really doesn't matter. It's sad that pride is such a big factor in our lives since we can miss out on having fun because of something so stupid. For those kids out there, if someone is bashing you for it, keep reminding them that you're having fun and that they are just jealous. Might not do a whole lot, but it might eat at them.

Everybody knows I play Pokemon and they're cool with it. People actually encourage me to keep on playing and win every tournament for some reason.

I guess to some extent I am. I only knoe 2 people who play it out of 240 kids in my year.

there are 508 in my freshmen class lol...and like not many people do any of that stuff, except for those extreme nerds...

Well, didnt no where this goes, so I will put it here. Are you? Cause I kinda am. I mean my friends no I play like yellow and stuff, but those are old school, and thus acceptable. But other then that, I hide all my pokemon stuff, and say its my brothers. What about you guys? Are any of you guys embarrassed like me?

I don't think you should. Your friends need to accept you for who you are and I'm sure they will based on expirience. I've had several friends who I befriended for reasons other than Pokemon. They found out and thought it was cool. Now you don't have to be wild about it, telling everyone because you think you have to. You just tell them if they ask or find out. You'll find a huge load is off you when you do. =D

Sometimes, I do get embarrassed, but if 10,000 members can gather on a forum to discuss Pokemon, it shouldn't be that strange, haha. :3

What adds to make this more interesting.

In school I've had a class where it was more like a help group where we discussed things and said truths about ourselves that not many people accept. While this wasn't something I hide, we were asked to say something about ourselves that might make other people laugh at us or mock us. Of course, I said even though I don't hide it, people would mock me if they knew I played Pokemon. Now, here's the more interesting part. A good amount of students in the class said that they play Pokemon and are fans of it.

i made most of my friends through playing pokemon ad the few that gave up on it through the years still no i play it and they dont care.
school is different not many people at school know but i doesnt matter if they know or not because most of my friends dont go to the same school as me.

Now that is an interesting way to have people accept you and I think the concept is very good. That probably was nice to hear when everyone mentioned their passion for Pokemon because you would know that you are not the only one. Pokemon isn't really the thing to be ashamed. You should be more ashamed if you spend too much time doing it and have no time for other things, maybe even more important. =D
