Competitions #3 and #4 will run slightly differently than to what we have previously done. In a nutshell,

Right, here's the plan we will test out for 2 rounds. It's a simple system, but one that I think is superior to our old method. I ask that for now, nobody really criticises this- Although I care about your opinions, I think it is only fair that we test out something before passing judgement on it. You'll have your chance to comment on this in two months time, once it has been tested.

Step One: Characteristics (Time period: None, chosen during previous competition)

The first stage will be choosing the very framework of the Fakemon. People will submit their ideas for the very basic characteristics, such as:

-Typing
-Size/Build
-Evolution Line
-Anything else of note

For now, we won't have a vote on this. That's because I see us having so many entries that a vote would be practically impossible. I will simply pick what I feel is the most appropiate one, although I will probably ask around in private to gather additional opinions.

Step Two: Concept (Time period: 10 days to submit entries, 4 day vote)

Once the bare bones of the Fakemon have been decided, we move onto the Concept phase. Here, artists submit concept art of their Fakemon. Although we are not looking for polished pieces of artwork, the art must:

-Be reasonably neat
-Have sketches of the Fakemon at various angles (so we know what all of it looks like)
-Be in colour

As well as art, your entry must be accompanied by:

-Plenty of information about your Fakemon (Note: Not dex entries)

I will revert back to the old plan of voting on names, so do not include those in your entry. This is a community project, where a Fakemon is not created by an individual artist but by the opinions of the public. That is the entire philosophy of this competition.

The concept that wins a public vote in step two moves onto...

Step Three: Create! (Time period: 10 days to submit entries, 4 days to vote)

The final phase ties up everything together to create our final product. Here, artists submit polished pieces of art for the Fakemon concept that won the vote in step two. At the same time, votes will be held for:

-Names
-Dex entries (This is why it is important to give information about your concept in step two)

Once this final stage is over, the Fakemon will be complete! We then move onto the next round and repeat the process.

For Fakemon #3, I have chosen the winning set of characteristics already. These are:

The Assassin said:
- Fighting/Flying type (both the basic and its evo)
- Speedy Look
- Physically Based
- Two pokemon in its Evolution line

So, that's Step One done already! Now we move onto the deeper and more exciting phase of Step Two.

Now that we have the bare bones of the Fakemon, it's time to flesh it out. In this thread, you will post concept sketches and ideas for your idea of what this Fakemon will be. The entries must include:

-Lots of information on your designs.
-Sketches at different angles, so we know what your idea looks like from all sides.
-Must be in colour. If you have no access to colours for whatever reason, label what parts of your design are in what colour.
-We will have a seperate vote for names and dex entries, so do not include these in your submissions at all.

So what will this flying fighter be? You decide! It can be anything so long as it fits within the requirements chosen (speedy, two Pokemon in evo line, flying/fighting).

Deadline:

You have ten days to submit your ideas and sketches, so the entry period will close on the 15th of September. After that, a 4 day voting period will begin, and the winning submission will move onto Step Three!

Get to it guys. : )

first post.

so this is basically a 10 day brainstorm?
EDIT: i see. its for getting the idea of a concept down.

Could I enter a rough sprite and if it gets accepted have someone draw it? I have no way of getting a drawing on the computer -_-

Sorry, I don't think sprites are clear enough. You can always try a full picture on MS Paint though, it's amazing what you can make on there with some time and dedication.

Alright, I'll try.

EDIT: A VERY ROUGH draft of the head

The colors are definitely not final, and I have no shading yet. I will probably add some more to the head before I start the body.

EDIT2:I added a little more. C'mon guys, tell me what you think.

EDIT3:Here is a different version.

Right now, i'm grounded, but not from the paper! I'm gonna scratch up some litle sketchs. Can't beleive you chose my idea, =D

EDIT: 619th post ;p

Sorry, but I don't really see the Fighting resembalence in it :/ It just looks like a Red/Brown bird :p

I dont really like it to tell you the truth... its just a cartoonish bird made on paint. No real thought or theme behind it...
I will post some sketches later

What do you think of this:

If I were to give some advice, I'd say to try to make it look more agile. It will make it look like more of a fighter. As it is.. it's a little too plump.

Yes, I do admit I made it a bit plump. I will make sure to make the evo more agile looking. The headband/feathers on the back of his head were bacon's idea, and I thank him for it. Here is the shaded in version.

I may change a little on him, and more info about him will come once I think of it.

@squirtle:Well, the drawing's good (well better than mine.) but the idea is iffy. There's really no fighting concept to it...

Well anyway here's my basic concept. I know I still have a lot to do.

okay so far, here's what I got:

That is purely hand drawn and no computer editing so yeah. It's like a Cardinal with Fists and a few belts/sashes. =p I'll make a basic form of this and computerized versions after i'm off my grounding D:

This looked like fun, I used to make my own fakemons all the time
At first I couldn't decide on the colour scheme, but now I quite like the blue. If it was easy to tell, the final form is based on a typical American super hero. However its species inspiration came from the roadrunner bird.

The basic form can not fly just yet, however can jump quite high and glides on air currents quite like gligar, gliscor and scizor.
When it reaches its 2nd evolution it has the full ability to fly. It is primarily physical, specialising in kicking based moves. Its punches, wings and beak can deal quite a lot of damage though!
Basic evo is about 2'10'' tall, while its evolution is 4'8'' (hoping that sounds reasonable?)

When I get time I'll come up with proper images of its design but for now its just rough c:
I can't wait to see more topics like this pop up, they truly are fun and bring me back to me designing days~

wow, Keshi, that idea is quite simular to mine, so it has my vote ;)
i wanted to do a crane or ostrich or some other bird like that. and i never thought to make it a road runner (for the speed element that is needed)
great work!

Wow. Okay I am most likely voting for Keshi (want to see others.). Although 1 question. WHat's the different in the pokemon between the stage 1 and the basic except for size and the basic color?

I like the drawing style, the concept is bit iffy to me. when it's blue, it looks too muc like swellow, and when it's brown, it looks like hitmonchan with wings. lol Also, both pokemon have to be fighting/flying so it's a bit ironic to have a fighting flying pokemon who can't fly. :F annndd your entry looks alot like mine with longer legs and a different color scheme

I really, really, really, really like how you combined the wings with fists, but I have to agree with Assassin that the colors are very similar to Swellow. I think you should focus on browns and reds, like a turkey. Think the fall colors. Also, I'm getting a strong chicken/turkey vibe from the sketches of the basic. Chickens are more associated with running and flailing and kicking than turkeys, so I think going a more chicken inspired route for the basic would be a good idea. For instance, when a chicken assumes a fighting stance, they elongate their neck and puff out their feathers to make themselves look larger and more menacing. I think it's be cool if you found a way to incorporate that into the design.

Oh! And spurs like a rooster!! :D It needs spurs. Absolutely positively needs spurs.

There are quite a few flying pokemon that don't actually fly, my main example being gligar and gliscor? Mantine possibly? (Also Gyarados, he is said to fly in the anime, but however learns no flying type moves)
I also, don't see the resemblance between mine and yours, Assassin. The whole structure of the 2 are different, mine is a roadrunner and you've opted for a cardinal like bird. plus I didn't even notice yours had fists?

We have had pokemon that share a resemblance in colour. For instance Sharpedo and Garchomp. If this is going to be the bird type of the region surely a little resemblance wouldn't hurt.
However I do not mind changing to brown as it is normally associated with fighting types. When its brown I do not see the resemblance between hitmonchan, hitmonchan sports a light tan brown, red boxing gloves AND a purple dress like thing.

I already decided on a roadrunner, not too keen on that chicken idea. Sorry. If you are keen on your idea you can have a go yourself. This is the concept stage!

I don't mind ideas towards mine. However I have thought through many of these things (e.g the flying and the colour scheme)

I don't like my entry being compared to another though, especially when I haven't had any influence from it? We are going for fighting/flying, a bird with fists and wings would be a common idea.

Sorry if any of this comes out harsh! I don't mean it to, really. I just didn't expect such.. replies? Haha although I didn't know what to expect.

i was thinking the posture when i mentioned hitmonchan, lol i jut looked at it again. It's a good entry and i like the idea of the roadrunner, i almost had done a roadrunner kinda thing but i couldn't figure out a good body build.
