RE: The Lounge

If you can approximate, what would you say is the total amount of time it takes you to write a chapter, or about how much time do you take to work on the (near) finished draft of chapter?

In certain circumstances, I can write and revise a chapter in one day. In the majority of situations, it requires a couple of weeks or - worse, a couple of months. It depends on my motivation, in addition to what is happening in my life. Sometimes, I never return to a particular story because it loses its initial momentum and I essentially give up.

Currently, I have half of the fourth chapter of my story completed. I started writing it a couple of weeks ago, and haven't touched it for a few days. I hope to continue soon. A few hindrances are harming my dedication to writing right now, though they should pass in due time :3

RE: The Lounge

I understand that latter part exactly. I usually get to working at stuff for days on end and then quit for a while before coming back to it. For instance, my next fakedex updates for my Feral Twilight story are ready to be posted, and then I continued work on Biohazard a few day ago but suddenly found myself distracted by another story I want to post very soon (which I haven't looked at since the other night). I don't give up on projects though as oppposed to just postpone them off and on.

RE: The Lounge

I can actually write a chapter in a matter of hours. However, I have a lot of issues with sitting down and writing, and it can take months to plan out the next part of my story - it needs to be absolutely perfect, otherwise I can't write it at all.

Quick note: I've temporarily abandoned Ricochet - and basically PokeBeach in general - for personal reasons. I might write up exactly why later, but I hope that I can get back to my old level of activity soon.

RE: The Lounge

I usually don't write anything in less than a day nor have I since college. I guess some people can, though.

In response to your side note: I noticed you really haven't been doing much here lately in fact, but I wasn't about to pry. Take your time, and get back to things when you're good and ready. I understand having to keep some things to yourself completely, Zenith.

RE: The Lounge

Normally takes me about 3 hours to get the initial write-up up, and additional half hour to go through and correct most things. I'm just on a slow engine right now.

RE: The Lounge

^Yeah, I can understand being in a little bit of a slump like that, considering most of my current projects are on hold until real life issues are done and over with.

In any case, I have at least two pending updates I might make in the next few days; one is an update for Feral Twilight, and the other a poem. The poem I'm just slightly cross on since I've based it on observations I've made in retrospect to my current theme and the whole "real men wear pink" fad from a while back. It's nothing nasty or anything, but I'm wondering if it'd be a good idea to post it just because of what it may imply...

RE: The Lounge

Over the summer, I intend on working on a screen play or novel of what would be a bit similar to the Black and White games. Of course, it would be significantly different from the RPG, and what I intend to do is make it much, much darker, and more puzzling. I aim to make Plasma, the Sages, and N incredibly fearsome characters. As the concept formulates in my head, Blake (I hate the name Hilbert, and Blake is similar to Black), the protagonist, is graduating from "Pokemon Trainer School" (of course, it's going to be titled something way less silly), and starting off on his journey, like the RPG. However, I plan on focusing on N's story as well. Not necessarily from his point of view, but he'll definitely have an even bigger part in this project. I also hope to make the Pokemon world much more realistic than "YOU'RE TEN. HERE'S A POKEDEX AND A PIG THAT SNEEZES FIRE". What do you guys think? I'll post a little teaser when I have a rough draft of the very beginning ready. Of course, my other fan-fic is still on hold. I just hit a dead end, with school and all.

LOL. My apologies for the text walls.

RE: The Lounge

^ The blurg like description sounds pretty good. I'd rather read serious fics like the one described, than normal anime-like stuff. It's good to see that people take the anatgonists characters and give them more power and depth.

I look forward to it.

RE: The Lounge

I've only just started Black, and have just made it to the third gym, so I'm at a bit of a loss as to how "fierce" N and the Seven Sages of Team Plasma are in comparison to the teams of previous gens. In any case, that still sounds just a bit too canon for my tastes, ST17. But then, I guess I can't say too much since Feral Twilight's original plot aimed towards something that directly mirrored Pokemon Colosseum... Even so, good luck with it.

RE: The Lounge

He's saying that, in his fanfic, he intends to make N/the Seven Sages/etc more fierce characters, instead of how they are portrayed in the video games.
I personally think it sounds like a great idea; N's storyline was great as it is, and there is still so much that is unanswered, or that could be expounded on. [Minor spoiler: The Seven Sages are never actually fought, so] I think the fanfic could benefit from making the Sages more prominent characters.

It's like one of those things that we'll have to wait for Grey Version to see. I personally want to see it now!

RE: The Lounge

Again, I still haven't gotten through Black yet, so I was at a loss reading ST17's fanfic idea... Still, I can't help but be skeptical about because, from what I've seen thus far, Team Plasma plays a far more active role in the game's than any of the other teams did in previous games (save perhaps for Team Snagem and Cypher in XD and Colosseum). Even if they aren't that fierce, they still seem more interesting than (oh, say) Team Rocket...but that's just my opinion, thus far...

RE: The Lounge

So, I should have a new chapter of The Traveler soon, I've already PM'd it too DNA, so once we get the critique done with that, it should be good to go. I have to admit, the activity is a little bit of a let down. How ironic is it that in a autobiography that I spent no effort on got HUGE results, yet when I pin and prick at a chapter to high standards, then finally post it, it's low in activity. A little bit of a let down, but I'll still keep writing, even if no one gets around to reading it.

Also, haven't gotten B/W but I like Team Plasma's concept A LOT better than the other teams. Finally, not the cliche of "WE SHALL RULE THE WORLD!" It's different. I can actually see the good in these people. Letting pokemon free is an understandable concept for me.

And who doesn't like N?

RE: The Lounge

I haven't even seen the B/W case in real life yet, let alone complete it.(Trying to avoid every possible spoiler.) I will be following that particular fic however when it get's made.

Seeing the comments that people have made, if a deep, dark character in a game aimed at kids has been made deeper and darker, it should be a good read if handled well.

RE: The Lounge

Yeah, I intend on keeping the fic a tween-friendly read, and at the same time making Plasma as realistic and diabolical as possible. On a side note- N is easily one of my favorite characters of any Pokemon game, ever. I really appreciated all the little things that had to do with them. That's about all I can say without spoiling anything.

RE: The Lounge

Not to sound critical, but don't go overboard with the "tween" themed stuff. There's already too much of it on TV, and even more in movies (Surely you know how bad Twilight and Step-up are, right? Don't mimic them, even remotely...).

Likewise, there's the issue of trying to capture things too realistically that drives me nuts. I mean, some things can be portrayed with a sense of realism added to them from what are otherwise fantasy settings, but if you try to do that in excess, it might make your story even more unbelievable than it already would've been if you just tried it as a kid's fic or a sci-fi/fantasy type of saga...

Sorry if that all sounded vague, but I can't pull up examples from my phone like I otherwise would've for the latter...

RE: The Lounge

N is the only character with depth that Pokemon has ever made, and he's so deep that we only know about half there is to know about him.
He is the prime point of interest in the ENTIRE plotline of Black/White. Thank you, Nintendo, for making N the character we all know and respect for who he is.

No, I completely understand. By tween-friendly, I meant that it wouldn't be too violent/over the top for someone of that age group. I didn't necessarily mean it would be "tween-themed", so I apologize if I was being too vague with that. PG-13 is the rating I'm aiming for, so I guess teen-friendly would be more appropriate to describe it.

Also, of course I won't take the realistic concept too seriously, considering this is Pokemon we're talking about. For example, our protagonist is going to be about seventeen, rather than a dinky, incompetent, ten year old. Also, I'm considering planning the story out so that [Spoiler: N's Castle does NOT shoot up from the ground and randomly stab the Pokemon League building with sets of staircases. ] Things like that, basically.

RE: The Lounge

Aye, I get you then. Again, just don't overplay things.

In any case, I've got some updates coming between now and the next week for my stories and poem thread. I just finished work on one poem inspired by my current theme (though I feel it's really just more ranting on my behalf... >.<) and I'm admittedly a little afraid to post it... I'm trying a different rhythm scheme, but I don't know how well it may go since it sounds too mechanical to me. I may add it to my "shorts" thread tomorrow after I type it up, and if I decide to do another sit-in at my local library (which has some of the most bizarre hours you'd ever see).

RE: The Lounge

Does applying the Western film genre to Pokemon sound like a good idea to anyone but me? I think that the "lone gunslinger wandering place to place on his horse fighting various villains" could work well as a "lone trainer wandering around the region on his faithful Pokemon fighting various evil-doers".

RE: The Lounge

Actually, I've been tempted to do that exact thing several times in the past, but always found my ideas seemed to putter out. I'm somewhat partial to Westerns, so I'd say go for it if you can figure out a good way to pull it off.
