Biweekly Haiku & Short-Poem Contest XXII

Rules and Entry Information

1.) Signups will again be based on the order in which submissions are made, meaning that all entries are to be made upfront (either here or via PM to me). The limit for entries is again set at fifteen participants. Once an entry is submitted, it cannot be swapped out for something else or altered in any way.

2.) Submissions are expected to be haiku-style short poems (those with a “five-seven-five” syllable format spread out across three lines). However, other types of short poems will be accepted so long as they don’t exceed four lines in length. New entries will be accepted until Wednesday, June 13, 2012 around noon, until all slots have been filled, or the thread sits several days without new entries.

3.) Each poem for the contest must follow the selected theme for the competition. Due to artist’s having different interpretations of ideas, no haiku will be disqualified for writing about divergent topics so long as the theme is tied in somehow (if it isn’t, then you will be disqualified for the duration of this round). This contest’s theme is Bad Memories.

4.) Voting will run for three days and be open to all members of PokéBeach. Everyone will be allowed to vote for up to three of their favorites. If more than eight entries are submitted, then participants may vote for their own poem. However, if less are entered, then they may not and a point will be deducted from the score of anyone who does so.

*Rules, timescales, and other parameters are subject to change without notice.

Entry List (Title/Author Set-up)

1.) The Past (By [member]GHJamesGH[/member])
Everyday it hurts,
Images plauged with sorrow
They can't be erased

2.) Triangle (By [member]Deus: Nightmare Autarch[/member])
Triangle of love,
Why must you oft remind me
Of my past failures?

3.) Reminder (By [member]Zyflair[/member])
Strikes of agony
Are the reflections of past,
Replaying within.

4.) Monster (By [member]Dark Giratina[/member])
Dark beast in my head,
is crawling beneath my skin,
nightmares just begun.

5.) Scarred (By [mod]Incinermyn[/mod])
Etched into my memories,
pain seethes through from my soul,
piercing into the world...my trauma...

6.) Over Again (By [member]HolyMackerel[/member])
The crash of bottles
brings bad things
with his arms he throttles
and in my head I hear screams

7.) Together (By [member]Ice Arceus[/member])
Memory of our time together
bringing nothing but suffering,
no point in residing through the dark past.

8.) My dark past (By [member]Arcanine954[/member])
keeps bringing up bad memories
ones of pain and suffering
ones I will never forget

9.) Living a Tainted Life (By [member]AoH[/member])
Past pain that I caused, I see
in a traumatic splitscreen.
Red pictures fall, blood rains, as
I let loose a heathen scream.

10.) "Your Face" (By [member]AnimeUSA[/member])
I don't want to remember your name.
Every time I see your face
It makes it so hard to forget.

11.) Dread (By [member]Lucky Fire[/member])
I've seen a sign;
and it is not to be ignored,
nor is it pleasant to think about.

I updated the OP with a poem of my own, and I'm bumping this so that people know it's still open for entries!

Friendly notice for anyone else that the deadline for new submissions is less than 48 hours from now.

RE: Haiku & Short-Poem Contest XXII

Can you replace the word "always" in the second line of my submission with "oft"? I want to preserve the haiku theme and I miscounted.

Ruining memories by Teal
A long time ago this was a haiku contest
but now it is a haiku and short-poem contest and even crap like this is accepted.
Where is the beauty?
The beauty in haiku is the art of fitting a message in limited space.

*Facepaws* Not necessary true. I do disqualify really stupid entries, you know? But, whatever... I'll be updating the OP tomorrow when I get to the library. Until then, entries remain open.
