Ho-oh EX Variants

Just a Grammar Nazi here, it's spelt Ho-Oh lol.

I'm thinking of just taking out a Mewtwo EX (so I have 2, and a Sigilyph), and adding in just a Darkrai EX, just for the free retreat stuff.

Here, I found a better list for a Ho-Oh and Darkrai combination.

Pokemon:
3x Ho-Oh EX
2x Mewtwo EX
2x Tornadus EX
2x Bouffalant DRX (You can remove one of these, for another terra if your area is heavy in Darkrai)
1x Darkrai EX
1x Terrakion NVI
1x Sigilyph DRX

Items/Supporters/Stadiums:
4x Prof Juniper
4x N
4x Random Receiver (You can cut this for a 2-2 line of Cheren/Bianca)
2x Skyla
4x Pokemon Catcher
4x Switch
4x Energy Switch
3x Tool Scrapper (You can cut 2 of these for other options)
2x Eviolite
1x Max Potion

Energy:
4x Double Colorless Energy
4x Fighting Energy
2x Psychic Energy
2x Darkness Energy
1x Fire Energy

EDIT:
Leave it up to me to forget the Dark energies *facepalm*

DOUBLE EDIT:
How am I so person today, forgot more cards.

TRIPLE EDIT:
Forgot Tornadus EX.

What about Tornadus EX? Hes one of the main points of the decks.

You say it's a better list, yet you're playing 2 catcher?

I said if you were looking for a list that focused more on darkrai, then here, then some casual says the obvious. Whomp, I guess?

O shi, I forgot that two, just added it up, and it's only 58 *facepalm*x1000000000000000000000000

Zangoose, I wanted a list with Darkrai in it, not a Darkrai/Mewtwo/Terra with Ho-Oh tech :p

I find that ray eels can give this decks fits. Any suggestions other than kill the eels.

Kill the Rayquaza?

Seriously though, if you have a hard time against RayEels, teching Girtaina EX could work as long as you have enough of the necessary energy.

Rayeels, is a piece of cake for the deck, it simply just demolish them during the early game. Also abuse Terrakion, so they have to use 3 energies instead of 2, which is great.

Mewtwo + DCE kills Tynamos T1 if you get that start. Otherwise, I find non EX attackers helpful; I currently use Tornadus, Terrakion, and Sigilyph.

I need help with the Darkrai/Hydreigon matchup. I can't seem to win despite benching Terrakion and getting a Land Crush the very turn in one game. He did have an amazing comeback, N'ing me into a dead hand and drawing into all of his Max Potions. Anyone got a good piece of advice? We're probably going to see each other in topcut again this weekend.

Oh this is easy... Constantly Catcher + KO Sableye, always do that. And if that isn't working try using 3 Terra (or 2 if your only using 1) and 2 Bouffalant, this easily disrupts them. Another way to get easier wins is to prevent the Darkrai Sniper Damage effect (2HKO pokemon on bench) by teching in Max Potion/Potion.

EDIT:
Munna BC... That's the thing I was thinking of lol.

Yeah, I would usually save my Catchers for Darkrai. The game was already rolling, and I felt it would just be a seventh prize. I'll try that, though.

Anyone have any idea's for adding in cards from the next set? Currently I'm seeing EtherDex taking over Ho-Oh's role making this really just a big basic.dek, and kinda ruining the points :(

Anyways happy news, I've been testing around with Raticatte recently, and noticed that it had some potential in Ho-Oh. The one issue I find with Ho-Oh is that it has no way of shuffling like other decks, Darkrai/Anything puts 30 somewhere making it hard to retreat and be safe from an OHKO, and Landy does the same, the rare Kyurem in Keldeo/Blastoise does this too. This makes me wonder if maybe Ho-Oh had an ability to do that if it would have more of a chance at a Tier 1 deck. I know it certainly helps against mirror matches, making your opponent wonder what the heck your playing. Just a thought wondering if anyone has any idea's for Raticatte + Ho-Oh.

I'm kind of seeing Ho-Oh die down with this upcoming set. I'm afraid we're looking down the barrel on this one.

Not to get off topic, but I do agree Raticate needs some kind of energy acceleration. With only 60 HP, your energy attachments aren't very safe. I think Exp. Share is the way to go if you're aiming for doing well with Raticate, but if you do get Raticate/Ho-Oh working, you'll have the up side of actually doing damage. My friend was playing Raticate/Amoonguss and was swept by a Cresselia tech in Darkrai/Hydreigon. It was sad knowing he had no way to KO it :'(

Landorus EX.

The sole, unfortunate reason that Raticate will never be good as more then a fun card. Even with Hypnotoxic Laser coming out, it just dies to anything that can do any sort of minimal damage.

I'm not sure about Ho-oh dying; decks that can do early pressure work very well next format because of Hypnotoxic Laser, but yet Ho-oh can be slow if you don't have a good setup. We'll have to wait and see what the metagame looks like then.

Yeah, I'm just worried about all of that Plasma stuff. It's apparently going to really shake the meta up. (But when's anyone ever been right about what the meta will look like in the future? I'm looking at you, Garchomp.) Let's keep our fingers crossed. I've actually found a deck that's both fun and good :p

How would hooh die next set? If anything it gets stronger once you start to play it more antimeta style. I dont get the mindset of pokebeach players sometimes.

Once you "start" to play it antimeta style? Terrakion and Shamin weren't enough? Of course it won't be Zekeels dead, but I don't think it will be quite as popular. Nothing ever dies completely, not really; that's rediculous. You still see the occasional Garchomp every now and then. I saw Reshiboar being played in a fun game at Cities this weekend. Do I think it won't be able to compete in this upcoming format? No, I didn't mean to imply that. But do I think it will lose popularity? Yes. We're getting Ether. We're getting Colress Machine. Ho-Oh will still be good, but I do believe its popularity will die down a little. We are getting a lot of cool Plasma stuff atter all. Who doesn't want to play two Supporters?

Honestly, I don't see this deck losing MUCH popularity as it is the most efficient toolbox deck that we currently have. I think that the plasma pokemon will have alot less of a change on the meta than everyone is saying. The trainers (hypnotoxin and corless as examples) will have a larger impact than the pokemon for sure. I may be wrong. But i don't think this is the death of hooh.

I don't think it's the death of Ho-Oh either. Just that people will want to play other stuff is all. I for one intend to stick with Ho-Oh, but unfortunately some of my friends are not.

Majority of my fellow Ho-Oh players are planning on quitting in the next format, so its just me and you Mora ;-;.
