How can i protect my prerelease cards?

I'm going to prerelease for the first time since Stormfront and i want to protect my 60 card deck from getting bends and creases etc.

Should i put each card in a penny sleeve and than into a deck sleeve?

Any suggestions would really help me out!

I usually get an 50-sleeve Ultra Pro set and use it for me deck, and have 10 leftovers.

Kinda like Glace, I'll just bring 40 Pokémon sleeves for the Prerelease.

I don't like using the penny sleeves because they really aren't meant for playing and are a bit cumbersome to use in a deck. :p

Much like the above posters, I would suggest to bring actual deck sleeves over penny sleeves.

I will also be attending my first prerelease. Good luck at yours!

Sort of off topic but do you know what promotional items they tend to give out at prereleases?

The set's PR Promo, posters and deckboxes.

Bring 40 sleeves. Thats what I do when I use cards I want to protect from damage in my PR decks. Just don't use penny sleeves, I've done that before and my cards constantly fell or slipped.

A deck box with all 4 of the Pack Arts and a Prerelease card. Best guess for the prerelease card is Altaria or Ninetales. Edit: Ninja'd by Brave.

And I use Ultra pro sleeves sometimes. I mostly use Japanese Sleeves for my deck, but it doesn't make much of a difference. Ultra Pro is a cheaper alternative for those who don't feel like spending $30 on a set of sleeves, but I do feel that they protect cards a bit better.

Thanks for the response you two, and I apologize; I didn't mean to hijack the thread :p.

Can you even fit a card that is in a penny sleeve into a deck sleeve? I've never tried that!

No, it can't, but you can fit a card in an Ultra Pro deck sleeve into a penny sleeve.

Have you considered buying the hard plastic sleeves? They are a bit more expensive and you only get 25 per box I think but they will protect from all bends and any other type of damage except heat and water damage. You can't do the bend shuffle if you use these though. The bend shuffle is the one that requires you to use 2 hands and then you pull out half the deck each direction and bend the stack and it shuffles in seconds. If you use hard sleeves you can't do this at all. However they are great for preserving your rares against anything though. If you don't mind not being able to do the bend shuffle or the fancy shuffle get these sleeves. IRC I think they are $8.00-$9.00 a box. That was about 7 years ago so they might have gone up. These were Canadian prices in Ontario Canada so I am not sure what they are here XD.:)

xxashxx, are you referring to top loaders? I would think they would prove to be a bit cumbersome if you tried to play with them. Then again, it might not be as bad with a forty card deck as it would be for a sixty card deck.

Or are you referring to something else?

The plastic hard sleeves like when you buy a single card etc. You can buy these for the extra protection for the most precious cards XD.:)

i normally play unsleeeved, if i pull anything that stands out it goes into a spare sleeve and into the binder or my good box.

Yeah I know what you mean. Although they would be too hard to shuffle and your deck would be pretty tall!

those are toploaders
and most if not all judges probably wont allow you to play with them, they are VERY hard to shuffle effectively and can be very disruptive
if you want to keep your cards safe, you can either use sleeves, or just not play with it

Penny sleeves work for me. They're actually really easy to shuffle, and yes, they're loose, but they're cheap, and all my other sleeves are in use, so yeah. I bring a tin and put my extra cards and deckbox in the bottom part and my promo in the display piece. Then I pretty much just carry my deck around. After the tournament's over, I sort out the cards I want to keep and put them in sleeves in the middle part of the tin, and the rest are for trade.

I have never heard them called top loaders before. I have heard them called hard covers or just hard cover sleeves but never top loaders before. Anyway I would treat these as promo cards only and NEVER trade these as you will never get them ever again. They are special event cards and you paid a lot for them too XD.:)

Is a BW promo card really that valuable? I agree that one should be kept in a sleeve and top loader for collectible purposes, but there will be a lot of them on the market. Depending on your location you could attend at least four prereleases and receive four of the promo cards. I saw a few of them being traded for regular cards in the Dragons Exalted set at the prerelease I went to.
