Pokemon How much is enough?

I want everyone to share their opinion as to how many Pokémon species do it for them.Example let's say we were on the last generation and the grand total number of Pokémon species was 1,051 (sorry I know really random number but it sounds perfect to me) how would you guys feel?Satisfied and happy that we made it to this many species or in the slightest bit this far into the franchise?Or a bit shocked?

Please don't hurt me for asking this question.

1,051 would be a bit over the top... but cool. Although I reckon people will run out of ideas for Pokemon by then.

I'm not sure tbh. As long as creators have the ideas, fans the money and wish to play, Pokemon will live. Let's just hope it will last for a long time! ^.^

Honestly, 493 was enough for me. 151 was probably a little low, but fine.

With as many as we have now, it makes them less special and less memorable... and less original.

Which is why I'm doing a run-through of Blue. Just because I loved that time where there was just Kanto and nothing else.

That said, I'd like to see more generations and more areas and such, just with the same Pokemon as we already have. That would be really nice.

over 9000

I wouldn't be shocked that it gets more popular. It's certainly not within reach.

dmaster out.

To be completely honest, I don't think there's a set number that I view as an upper limit. As long as the designs are interesting and well-executed, I'm okay with things. There are multiple species of butterflies, bats, bees, etc. in the real world, so I don't think having multiple kinds of butterfly, bat, bee, etc. Pokémon is an issue.

This.

In all seriousness... enough that there is a wide range of Pokemon, but low enough so that people can remember them. If they have 9 Gens, people will began to forget Gen 5 Pokemon (like I already have).

I honestly think they should have stoped making pokemon (and the games) in the fourth Gen.. Like Scizor said, with so many pokemon running around, it will never be the same no matter how many "new" pokemon they make.

They're basically already out of ideas.

Emboar=Magmortar
Galvantua=Ariados
Swoobat=Golbat
etc

I thought the first 493 were well-done for the most part though.

As far as how many the company feels is too much, well they'll keep making more as long as there's a market for the games. They're basically in a rut as far as new ideas for how to give the game new mechanics and they basically always have been. If the video games survive a little longer though, I wouldn't be surprised if they start introducing say 50 or so new Pokemon every new generation, as well as continuing all the reprint games we're seeing.

It's impossible to run out of ideas. There are millions of animals, monsters, mythical creatures and beasts in the real world and only 500-something Pokemon. I don't see a problem with an indefinite amount, but perhaps they could use fresh designers. I could probably think of 151 decent and unique Pokemon by the end of the week. The problem, perhaps, is the creators either don't care anymore or have a sort of writers block when it comes to the creation of unique Pokemon. At the same time, though, generation 5 was purposely designed to be similar to previous generations...a lot of the species are similar to the ones in Kanto etc., but are different due to inhabiting a different environment. It's a lot like real life, when you think about it.

I liked the first 250, they were my favorite but I wouldnt mind seeing some new ones from time to time :p

For me, they can keep them coming... The only issue I have isn't when they make 2 pokémon based on butterflies (for example), it's when they make 2 almost identical pokémon in the same gen (Plusle and Minun, they're on the bottom of my list)...

But I think Galvantua looked better than Ariados, really. It's a matter of preference and opinion on whether the designs are good or bad. Obviously, Gen 5 really started pushing the limits of what exactly could be made into a Pokémon. They're already recycling a few concepts in a sense, but if the design is better than the original in the eyes of many, then it would be accepted.

Under that note, the limit is to the point where they can't think of a new idea or improve on an old one.

Right. But anybody can say "let's make a yellow Ariados." The designers could be more creative than that - and they should be, considering they're being paid to do it.

I think that the whole point of the B\W era is to sort of get back to th roots of pokemon in a new location. Gen 6 is most likely going to have the player going back to whatever area Gen 5 is in for an addtional 8 gyms like gold and silver. So what they did with th pokemon was make them fit a bunch of th recurring sterotypes we see in pokemon. Like the big slow guys with a lot of attack and HP, and the realy fast guys with low deffense and HP. So they used alot of the orginal pokemon ideas because they fit these sterotyps so easily. So realy Gen 5 shouldn't be thought as an addtion to the first 4 Gens but the starting of a new series useing the same mechanaics.

The only problem with having so many is that you can only carry 6 with you at once so it makes it a little frustrating when you have over 10's or more you want in your party but can't. It would be cool if you could carry 5 parties of 6 with you and swap them out before you battle. You still black out if you lose that party. ...I'm not sure why the trainer passes out because they lose... or how they rush to the pokemon center after passing out...

Also more pokemon mean more pokemon cards, which means more money to burn.... D: which we all love to do anyway but still... D:

I say they have enough when there is a pokemon for every species on earth. Yeah there are tons of species found in real life everyday but that wont stop people from liking a lion more or a whale shark

I'm thinking the same thing, NeoCandy. I really wouldn't be surprised if Gen VI is heavily connected to Gen V. In any case, I'm thinking that Gen VI will introduced much fewer new Pokémon into the mix, so everyone who think there are too many shouldn't have too much to worry about...

I loved the first generation. Everything about it was gold. Trading beasts with friends? Battling them with friends? It was absolute heaven for the younger audience.
The second generation introduced over 100 new exciting Pokemon, trading through generations, all new story and twists, the most post game Pokemon stuff-to-date. Truly the best generation.
I only like the third gen because of FR/LG and LG is probably one of my favorite games.
I only like fourth gen because of HG/SS. It improved everything that second gen had and put in all the new Pokemon with new graphics and gameplay. Even with the option to have the great soundtrack from the gameboy. HG/SS is my favorite game.
I only liked B/W because of the story.
MR/AS will be awfull. And no more remakes should be made. R/B/G/S were remade just because of the graphics and they were the best games. If they are going to remake R/S then why not remake the remakes?
I am probably never going to put a new Pokemon in my team again. Generation 5 Pokemon were just laughable and they looked so stupid.
All side games are terrible apart from Blue/Red Rescue team.
(Don't get all mardy because this is just my opinion.)

I will abandon Pokemon if they make a 6th gen. It has gotten too far already. It's best to add a few-well thought Pokemon every generation while following different characters while alternating story. It will also be easier, they won't have to think of over a hundred useless Pokemon every time. Maybe add a legendary every gen with a few new Pokemon. I don't think adding a three digit number every generation is the way to go. Single digits with a new game and old characters is better. I would enjoy the series a lot better if this was the case.

Like the TCG. (Excuse my poor knowledge of the TCG). Adding a few basic, stage 1 and stage 2 and a few rares every release. Why should the game be any different? Changing stats for Pokemon would also spice up the meta game. Change teams and it would be more entertaining. Heck, it would make discussion a lot more active than just (insert well known team here).

Sorry about any poor grammar.

I thought 386 was enough. Any Pokémon after that aren't as "special" to me.
That could be that I started with that many Pokémon, or that 386 Pokémon are plenty to me.
