Collecting "How Much is This Card Worth?" / "Is This a Good Trade?"

Hello! My girlfriend and I opened a ton of first edition booster packs from Team Rocket and Gym Challenge this evening. I'm wondering what the going rate for a few of our pulls is, if someone wouldn't mind helping out!

Gym Challenge:

Blaine's Charizard
Rocket's Mewtwo
Lt. Surge's Raichu
Misty's Gyarados
Giovanni's Gyrados

Team Rocket:

Dark Raichu

I haven't really graded a card before but based off of some of the Near Mint and Mint cards I have viewed online I am assuming that all of the cards that I listed are Mint to Gem Mint.

Sorry if that is a lot to ask. Thanks in advance!

Edit: If this helps determine the quality of the cards, they were immediately placed into sleeves and then into top loaders upon pulling them from the booster packs.

I feel that it would have been more profitable to sell the sealed packs, but here's what I've found the going prices for each card to be.

Blaine's Charizard ~ $20-$23
Rocket's Mewtwo ~ $24
Lt. Surge's Raichu ~ $3-$5
Misty's Gyarados ~ $10
Giovanni's Gyarados ~ $8-$12
Dark Raichu ~ $8-$13

You should still get a second opinion or double check yourself though

Since they're pack-fresh I can imagine you could get quite a bit more than those prices if you're patient. :)

Thanks guys! We had a lot more fun opening the booster packs than we would have if we re-sold them. We bought them for $4 a pack which I'm thinking was a great deal for us (so yes we could have made some money but that wasn't our goal :p).

We'll be holding onto them for a while!

That's what I figured. It was at our local hobby shop. Great owner, love giving him business. Apparently he has some more boxes in storage (not sure which boxes at the moment) as well as a binder of holos... interested to see how he prices those ;). I hate to say it but the Gym Challenge booster box was sealed and we opened it (it had some teared off stickers on the front so not in pristine condition, therefore I didn't feel as bad) :p. His price was $144... seeing it for $279.99 online. I love opening booster packs though (especially old first edition packs).

To keep this post on topic...

What is a single 1st edition base set booster pack usually valued at?

Umm with some basic Ebay checking, I'd say $200 average ($150 - $250).

Wait a second. I could have sworn that I saw sealed 1st Edition Base Set Booster Boxes for ~$600. A single pack sells for ~$200?

I must have something mixed up here :p

Edit: I'm guessing they were Unlimited booster boxes >.<

Boxes wise

Boxes Unlimited ones sell usually for about $300-$450 Packs $8-$15

Boxes One first edition sold for $7500 Packs $150-$200

Shadowless ones $400-$600 $20-$60

First edition go for more than Shadowless and Unlimited.

That's pretty much spot on.
1st edition boxes go for crazy prices sealed.

Thanks guys. For the past week I thought 1st Edition Base Set boxes were $600 ;).

I still thought that was a crazy amount!

Lol that's a steal if you can get one for that price You can easily sell 1 pack for $150 if you got a box for $600. Then you will leave a very happy man/women lol. All I have is a Shadowless base set blister pack :(.

See me and daelum both know our shiz come to us for any questions you have, more than often one of us can answer it. lol

Yeah that would be crazy. I've been lucky enough to find 1st edition Team Rocket, Gym Challenge, Neo Genesis as well as EX Ruby & Sapphire and Aquapolis packs for $4 a pack at my local card shop :eek:

Have you guys ever seen a sealed 1st edition Base Set booster box up for sale?

I thought he said booster pack I read it wrong no one else seamed to find a problem. Though obviously you could of just corrected me instead of trying to make me look stupid. If you don't have anything else to do then go ahead. It seams to be the norm with staff on this forum.

I was not trying to make you look stupid. I was wanting you to clarify your answer. In the contradiction, how was I to know which answer was correct?

A simple way to avoid this in the future, is to be more specific in your answer. That can apply to everyone. In this case a more specific answer would have been.

How much would a PSA 10 Ancient Mew (2nd Movie Promo) card be worth?

Was it released in both English and Japanese? If so, what would be the value of each?
