Pokemon Interesting Pokémon Facts

Random sprite info I noticed on oras:

- The vines on Mega Venusaur can actually be used to attack
- The feathers on Zapdos' wings are able to be extended
- Mega Mewtwo X can also extend its limbs to be way longer than they actually are
- Mega Heracross can open "vents" on its arms, showing a greyish skin underneath
- When Mega Aggron goes down to attack on 4 legs, it's able to extend it's horns making them almost double size
- There is only 1 animation featuring Mega Sharpedos nose teeth
- Gigalith's red spikes are able to "light up"

And finally:

- In Pokémon Red and Blue, there is a SNES in the Copycat's house. If you press A while looking at it, it will say that the SNES is still on, and it is running "a game with Mario wearing a bucket on his head". This is referencing the Japan-only game "Mario and Wario", where Mario wears a bucket on his head.

- Vespiquen and Zygarde are the only Pokémon with 3 signature moves. Vespiquen has Attack Order, Defend Order, and Heal Order, while Zygarde has Land's Wrath, Thousand Arrows, and Thousand Waves. However, Thousand Arrows and Thousand Waves are event-only moves that can curretnly only be obtained through hacking.

- Real world animals exist in the Pokémon world. Indian Elephants are mentioned in Raichu and Gastly's Pokedex entries, a mongoose and many fish have been shown in the anime, anime characters have mentioned lions and cows, a bird has been on a Weepinbell card, and a dog was in a Pokémon picture book.

- "Giratina and the Sky Warrior" formerly held the record for the most pre-ordered tickets for any animated movie, despite the fact that it was only in theaters in Japan.

- Tentacruel's Pokedex entry says that it has 80 tentacles, even though it only has 14.

- Despite the fact that the anime episode "The Legend of Dratini" was banned because it had guns shown in it, the episodes "Here Comes the Squirtle Squad" and "Tentacool and Tentacruel" depicted guns and were left unedited.

- Even though Ho-oh was the first Gen II Pokémon revealed, and that they originally planned 190 Pokémon to be in Red and Green, it has been confirmed that Ho-oh was not originally going to be in Gen I.

- There is a protein in the human body that helps the brain process faster. It is called "Pikachurin".

On note of that last one, there is a gene now called Zbtb7 that may or may not act as a master switch for cancer. It was originally going to be called Pokemon (for POK Erythroid Myeloid Ontogenic Factor), but Game Freak threatened to sue when they heard that back in 2005, not wanting the news everywhere to say "Pokemon causes cancer."

Yes, and shiny Gigalith's blue spikes become red/orange (like the non-shiny version) when they "light up" ;)
 
I'm probably not the only one who noticed that, but Parasect and Mewtwo once had the almost same sound. I don't know when it changed tho :S

In the original games, lots of Pokemon had similar cries (they were all edited from the same base sounds), to the point where there were only 37 completely unique cries.
 
It took sixteen years for Tentacool/Tentacruel to get its alternate types done in card form. The first water line was done in Fossil in '99 and it is only now in 2015 that its acquired a poison line. This is the longest stretch of time to date.
 
Some little known facts about some of the newer TCG sets:

-Darkrai-EX was the only Dark Type EX from the Black/White era.

-The Japanese release of Megalo Cannon was the first Black/White-onward set to feature more than 1 EX of a specific type, as there were 2 Grass EX's and 2 Dragon EX's. Combined English sets have done this many times, but this is the first Japanese instance. This would happen again with the release of Tidal Storm, which featured 2 Water EX's and a Water Primal.

-Alpha Growth is the only Ancient Trait from Primal Clash that has yet to appear on an unevolved Pokemon.

-Black/White and Boundaries Crossed are both infamous for omitting several cards from their original Japanese release, then later releasing them in future sets. So far, this has yet to occur in the XY era.

-Flashfire is the only XY era set that doesn't feature any Legendary Pokemon.

-A reprint of 'Imakuni?' was featured in EX Battle Boost, but wasn't included in the release of Legendary Treasures, making it the only card from a Black/White set that wasn't featured in English, alongside the Pokemon Enterprise cards.

-The Shiny reprint of Rayquaza was featured in Dragon's Exalted prior to it's official release in Dragon Vault.

-Lugia-EX is the only Plasma card in Legendary Treasures, and can't be used without Plasma Energy, which wasn't featured in that set.
 
- The official Pokemon website says that Mega Aerodactyl is actually what Aerodactyl looked like before it went extinct. Maybe it's not a Mega Evolution, but a Primal Reversion.....

- In the 3rd Pokemon Movie, several Unown are shown that do not look like any Unown in-game. These appear to be the symbols σ, Σ, Π, Ω, Ȣ, ю, б, and я, along with 4 others.

- Speaking of Unown, Unown has the most cards featuring it than any other Pokemon, with 86 seperate types of Unown cards in existence.

- Several Pokemon were originally planned to be in the Smash Bros. series but were scrapped, including Meowth, Mew, Plusle and Minun.

- All the Pokemon that Red has been shown with in the games are ones that are acquired in a special way in the first generation. Venusaur, Charizard, Blastoise, and Pikachu are all starters, Lapras is given to you after you are allowed to Surf, Snorlax is one of the two blocking your path on Routes 12 and 16, and Espeon is the Eevee given to you by Bill, now fully evolved.

- In Pokémon Gold and Silver, Snorlax is programmed to be able to learn Charm through breeding, but no other Pokémon in the Monster Egg Group can legitimately learn it to pass down as an Egg move in those games. In Generation III on, Snorlax can inherit the move from Bulbasaur by chain breeding.

- Wailord is 48 feet long, yet only weighs about 900 pounds. If one were to estimate Wailord's height and scale as a 48 x 20 foot cylinder, it would be less dense than air. It would float through the air like a blimp. (Maybe that's why Wailord is known as the "FLOAT Whale Pokemon"...)

- In Pokemon Snap, X and Y, and ORAS, it is shown that the three Magnemite that make up Magneton are not connected, but in fact three seperate entities. They can move apart from each other, but only a short distance away.

- In the anime episode "The Whistle Stop", James is once again attacked by his Victreebel. He seems to be speaking gibberish, as if his dialogue is being muffled by Victreebel. However, it is not gibberish. If you play James's dialouge backwards, he says "Leo Bennett and 4Kids are the devil!". Why the heck would Pokemon put that in their show? I have no clue.

More TCG facts:

-Base Set Charizard, from a technical standpoint, is NOT the rarest card from that set. All Holos from Base Set have the same rarity. Charizard is 'the most sought out card' from that set, which is why he is so much more expensive.

-Gothitelle and Krookodile are the only 2 cards from Emerging Powers that have abilities.

-Every Dragon Pokemon in the first 5 Generations appeared at least once in the Black/White era.

-Full-Art Supporters are a spiritual successor to the Gym Leader Trainer cards from the Gym Series. Each Gym Leader from that set had a Trainer card to accompany it, and each of those Trainer cards had a Holo variant that featured different artwork from the standard print.

-Kabutops from Fossil, Dark Kadabra, and Dark Vileplume have the lowest amount of HP on any Stage 2 Pokemon, leveled at just 60HP.

-Dark Types are the only types so far that don't have any Mega EX's to represent them in a set. (Absol is a promo)

-Flygon has a total of 4 different ex/EX cards. One from Legend Maker, one from Dragon Frontiers, one from Power Keepers, and one from the February-April Gym Challenge promo packs.

-Rayquaza C/Lvl X is the only Cynthia-owned Pokemon that appeared in a Japanese Set. Every other Pokemon C was a promo.

-Also, Charizard isn't even the most expensive Pokemon card. The most expensive card right now is the special 'Pokemon Illustrator' Trainer card. There are only 40 copies of this card in circulation (according to bulbapedia).

-Illumise from Primal Clash is actually a misprint card. The attack 'twirling sign' should be on the top because it is a colorless cost. This might not seem true at first since twirling sign does damage and helping hand does not, but compare it to Sableye from Dark Explorers and you'll defenitely notice it.

-Furious Fists has no Metal Type Pokemon. XY has no Dragon Type Pokemon.

-Thanks to cards like 'Maxie's Hidden Ball Trick, it is technically possible to do 110 damage and 30 to the Bench with Landorus-EX within one turn by attaching a Muscle Band and a Strong Energy, putting Fighting Stadium in play,and using Maxie to get a Machamp into play.

-Arceus and Deoxys are the only 2 sets ever released to be named after a Pokemon.

-Despite the fact that Call of Legends has reprints of HGSS cards and has the same card layout as that format, it is not classified as part of the HGSS era.

-Lugia has been featured as a Water Type several times in the TCG, presumably because he is considered the 'guardian of the seas'. A similar instance occurs with Torkoal cards, as a few of them have been mislabled as Fighting Types.

-EX Ruby&Sapphire is the only set to start an era that doesn't feature any Legendary Pokemon corresponding to that game. It is also worth mentioning that Neo Genesis featured Lugia, but not Ho-oh.

-The HGSS era features no Pokemon Tool cards.

-The Burn condition has never been featured in the XY era, yet the Theme Decks for those sets still come with Burn markers.

-Blaziken FB and Charizard G are the only non-Gen4 starters to have a LVL X card.

-Regigigas EX was the only EX from Next Destinies that wasn't reprinted. Mew EX is the only EX from Dragon's Exalted that WAS reprinted.

-Tornadus EX is, to this day, the only Ultra Rare card that was ever distributed as a Prerelease Promo.

That's actually not true. Lickilicky C appeared in the set as well.

More Dex facts:

- Swadloon and Spewpa actually has limbs/hands beneath their "cloths"
- Whenever Bunnelby and Diggersby attack, their ear openings close
- Florges has vines hidden within its bouquet, that it can use to attack with. So does Gogoat
- ORAS is currently the only gen 6 games, where the Furfrou trims are registered in the PokeDex
- Espurr hides two yellow circles under its ears
- It's only available to see the non lit earpatches on male Meowstic's ears
- The triangles on Binacle's faces, are not actually it's mouth. Likewise on Barbaracle's main face.
- Accoding to Amaura's dex entry, Tyrantrum was a hunter of it.
- Xerneas Neutral mode does not have any battle animations.
- Xerneas Active mode is able to change the colour of the horn spikes while attacking-
 
TCG Facts!

In the original Pokemon EX Ruby and Sapphire set, no Gen 3 Pokemon got EX's. 6 of the 8 EX's in that first set were from Gen 1.

Because of this, Chansey is technically the first Pokemon to get an EX, even though it had an evolution, Blissey, that would not get an EX until EX Unseen Forces. Likewise, Scyther got an EX before Scizor.

Aggron was the first Hoenn Pokemon to get an EX. However, Gardevoir and Wailord were also EX's in that set, so technically all 3 of them were the first Hoenn Pokemon to get EX's.

Lucario, not Shaymin or Regigigas, was the first Sinnoh Pokemon to get an EX

Also, Hoopa Unbound is 21 feet tall :eek:
 
In ORAS, an NPC reveals that the people of Kalos speak French (and yes I am aware Kalos is based on France).

It is also possible that you meet the Battle Frontier's Pike Queen, as a girl upstairs in the Battle Maison tells you the site of your Pokemon is making her Seviper excited, as well as a man on the same floor near the stairs reveals that he has the Pike Queen scouted .

Although not really an interesting fact but rather an observation, but has anyone else noticed the Battle Maison NPCs say weird and creepy things?
 
- If you transfer Missingno. to any of the Pokemon Stadium games, it will have the same sprite as a substitute doll.

- Although Vanillite, Vanillish, and Vanilluxe look like ice cream, the Pokedex says that they are actually covered in snow. That's also why they are all called the "Fresh Snow Pokemon".

- Kadabra and Alakazam create their spoons with their psychic powers, and bend said spoons to hone said powers.

- Twitch Plays Pokemon holds the world record for most participants of a single player video game. They were even mentioned in the 2015 Guiness Book of World Records!

- Junichi Masuda and Ken Sugimori revealed in an interview with @Gamer magazine that there was a rejected Pokémon design based on the first cloned sheep, Dolly. They removed it after deeming it "too controversial" for Pokémon.

- Not many people know about it, but there was a Pokemon Broadway musical called "Pokemon Live". (Spoiler Alert: It's Terrible!) However, that isn't the fact. The fact is that many of the actors later went on to star in major Broadway productions like "Book of Mormon" and "Wicked". You gotta start somewhere, I guess.

EVEN MORE TCG FACTS

-The only cards in BaseSet/Jungle/Fossil that weren't featured in the GBC game were Electrode (BS) and Ditto (F). The reason why is probably because the way they worked would require too much additional programming, and it may not have functioned correctly. As such, Electrode and Ditto each got a new exclusive card in that game.

-XY is the only set in the XY era that doesn't feature any Galaxy Holo Promos to coincide with the special Blister Packs for that set. All the Galaxy Holo Blister cards are reprints. (Salamence, Dragonite, Gyarados, Gallade)

-Sawk, Haxorus, and Golurk from Plasma Blast all feature attacks with very chivalrous names that have specific effects themed around Team Plasma Pokemon. (Kick of Righteousness, Iron Fist of Justice, Strike of the Champion)

-Aquapolis has more cards than any other set in existence, boasting 186 cards in total.
 
- Ditto doesn't just turn into Pokemon, it can also transform into inanimate objects. One Pokedex entry says it turns into a rock when it goes to sleep, and a Ditto transformed into a book and a cannon in the episode "Ditto's Mysterious Mansion".

- Mew was programmed into Red and Green without Nintendo's permission or even their knowledge. It was actually a pretty risky move because it was added after the debugging software was uninstalled, meaning that the game may have been even more glitchy then it already is.

- Due to the way Pokeball mechanics work in Gen 1, there is 1 in 255 chance for a Master Ball to fail in those games.

- An unused ability, called "Cacophony" is in the coding of Gen 3 and works exactly the same as Soundproof.

- The GS Ball from the anime was originally supposed to contain a Celebi. However, when it was decided that Celebi would be the star of the "Pokemon 4Ever", the ball was given to Kurt in the hopes that fans would forget about it.

- "Lucario and the Mystery of Mew" was nominated for the American Anime Award for best film but lost to "Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children".

- "Don't Say You Love Me" by M2M was a hit song over a year before it was released as a single thanks to it being used in "Mewtwo Strikes Back".

- The chance of Mew appearing from a PokeBall in Smash Bros. is 1 in 151 in the first game, 1 in 251 in Melee, and 1 in 493 in Brawl. This is the same as the number of Pokemon obtainable in each game's respective generation. However, it is unknown what the chance of finding Mew is in Smash Bros. for 3DS and Wii U.

- Contrary to popular belief, the anime episode "Denno Senshi Porygon" did not give hundreds of kids seizures. Only about 2 dozen had actual seizures, while a few hundred more complained of mild headaches, prompting their parents to take them to the hospital.
 
THE BRANIAC IS BACK

-Base Set Gyarados has Grass Weaknes. This is strange becaus Gyarados is part Flying Type, meaning it would normally receive x1 damage from Grass Types, x.5 damage from Bug Types, and x1 damage from Poison Types. It's even crazier when you consider that Magikarp from that same set has Lighting Weakness. This same issue is prevelant in Team Rocket, where Dark Gyarados is G Weak and Magikarp is L Weak.

-Evey non-Magma/Aqua card from Team Aqua vs Team Magma features Ken Sugimori artwork, excluding EX's.

-There are 12 different Arceus cards in 'Arceus'. Outside of the individually named Unowns, no Pokemon has ever had 12 different cards within a single set.

-Cilan is the only male Gym Leader to appear as a Supporter in the BW era. (Yes, Cheren should count, but consider this: Cheren's first appearance was as a rival, not a Gym Leader. He wouldn't become a Gym Leader until B2W2. The Cheren from BCR (technically part of B2W2) is just a reprint as well)

-Every fully-evolved starter was featured at one point as an EX in the RSE era, including the Eeveelutions and Raichu. In addition, Lucario was featured as an EX prior to the start of the DP era.

-Dragon's Exalted is the only set during E-card onwards era thus far that doesn't have any Supporters. Likewise, Dragon Vault has no Supporters, either. (POP doesn't count)
 
- Disney owns the distribution rights to the 4th, 5th, 6th, and 7th Pokemon movies.

- Herman Cain quoted dialogue from "Pokemon 2000" during his 2012 campaign speeches.

- Due to Team Rocket's Meowth learning to walk and talk, he is unable to learn any new moves. (Not quite sure how that works....)

- The anime was only supposed to last about a year and a half, but due to the Porygon incident and Pokemon's immense popularity, it still continues to this day. The same thing happened with with Gold and Silver, which were supposed to be the last Pokemon games.

- "Mewtwo Strikes Back" was originally going to be the final episode of the anime, and the entire movie had to be rewritten to avoid continuity errors.

- Koffing and Weezing original names were "Ny" and "La", referencing the high amount of smog in of New York and Los Angeles.

- Satoshi Tageri's favorite Pokemon is Poliwhirl.

- Clefairy was originally supposed to be the mascot of Pokemon, not Pikachu.

- Clefairy was also going to be Ash's starter. It wasn't decided that he would have a Pikachu until episode 5 was being written.

- Wynaut is the only non-fully evolved Pokemon to ever be in the Ubers tier.

- Nidorina and Nidoqueen can't breed, but Nidoran-Female can. Huh?

- "Kalos" is a real word and means "beauty" in Greek.

- If you hack Fire Red and Leaf Green, if you talk to a sailor by the SS Anne's dock, instead of his normal dialogue, he will say "By the way, if you like this game: by it or die." Yes, that is actual dialogue from an actual game.
