This is kinda... disappointing... Honestly, I was expecting the next set to be called OmegaRuby and Alpha Sapphire (or in japan, Omega Collection and Alpha Collection) as usual... Making the set that is supposed to promote the RS remake be called Delta Emerald it's kind of provoking... I was really hoping for an Emerald remake and not only it's doesn't make sense for the set to have "Emerald" in its name, it's weird to re-introduce Delta species right in the first set... Maybe, like someone said, this is not the next set but a future set instead...
Also, regarding the interruption of the XY block, maybe that's not going to happen... Back in 3rd gen, when FRLG were released between RS and Emerald, the corresponding TCG set didn't start a new block, it was just that set, and then the TRR set (which was released after the Deoxys set actually in japan)... Then, they released the johto themed set and then, the Delta sets started...
It's true that the only gen 6 pokémon missing in the TCG is Zygarde (Diancie doesn't count) and it may appear in Phantom Gate. With all gen 6 pokémon having a card, they can indeed start a new block, and then, when they release the third gen 6 game, go back to Kalos-themed sets...
In Japan, the sets that corresponded to EX Ruby and Sapphire, EX Sandstorm, EX Dragon, EX Team Magma and Team Aqua, and EX Hidden Legends were part of the ADV series, whlie the sets that corresponded to EX firered and leafgreen all the way to EX Power Keepers, with the exception of EX Emerald and EX Power Keepers, because those sets aren't based off of any Japanese sets, are part of the PCG series.
Here is what I think will happen. Depending on if they want ORAS to last 2 years or not, I am thinking around 4 or 8 sets of ORAS, and 8 or 4 sets of Z respectively.
WIth the third generation, in the international market, it was named EX Ruby and Sapphire, EX FIrered Leafgreen EX Emerald. All of the sets in that series had an EX in it, and none of the games based off of them had an EX in its name.
In the fourth, and fifth, and so far in the sixth generation, we have sets like Diamond and Pearl, Platinum, Heartgold Soulsilver, Black and White, and XY. Each of the sets in the series that isn't the first set has that name, followed by a subtitle, like Diamond and Pearl Mysterious Treasures, Platinum Rising Rivals, Heartgold Soulsilver (HS) Unleashed, Black and White Emerging Powers, and XY Flashfire. Even if the sets that are supposed to be based off Black 2 and White 2 are still in the Black and White series, the Black and White logo in Boundaries crossed look different with the blue in black and the red in white that it sort of ties in to the Black 2 and White 2 games. This leads me to believe that the sets in 2015 are going to have the ORAS name in them, and not stick with the XY name. This also makes me believe they are going to use the Z name after the ORAS name, assumig the third game is going to be called Pokemon Z. They might throw a curveball at us and rather than Z, they would release Delta Emerald instead, and therefore the TCG would use the Delta Emerald brand.
