Is Durant Dead after DE?

Well that pretty much makes the beginning of my post wrong. However i still stand by the point that Heatmor won't see any widespread play as Durant isn't as common as Zekeel, but of course that differs from meta to meta.

If your meta is like ‹60% Durant then by all means throw in a Heatmor and go to town.
 
I can see Durant losing popularity due to Heatmor, but I don't think it'll completely wipe the deck off the map. Heatmor is great against Durant, no doubt about it, but imagine that you're building a deck and are deciding on the last few cards to include. Would you rather play a card that could potentially help out against multiple matchups, or a single matchup that's predicted to see less play anyway? Unless your deck can already win against everything but Durant, I would expect most people to pick something else.

Durant won't see as much play, but I imagine the new Durant decks will be designed with Heatmor in mind, possibly including more basic pokemon to reduce the risk of donks and pokemon that can counter Heatmor. I wouldn't be surprised to see a card like Bouffalant make it's way into surviving Durant decks (Search for it and a DCE with Twins and boom, no more Heatmor for a while).
 
Heatmor is definitely a problem for Durant decks but have you guys thought of adding in Cryogonal from NV?

So that way you can add another type of energy to decrease consistency, take 2 turns to charge up so you can't keep up with Durant's being KOed, and then fail to OHKO Heatmor anyway? I can't see what good that does (either Cyrogonal).
 
IMO the future of Durant decks depends on the ingenuity of the players of the deck. Many will continue playing it without any changes, but the best players will see the new set and Heatmor, and think of ways to beat it. Like Mewtwo + DCE + Bouffalant.
 
I think durant is not dead. A bunch of people can not afford to play top tier decks or do not have enough money for the crazy priced EXs. I am a senior and have to buy all my cards with my own money. Thankfully I still have playsets of everything through trading and have friends to borrow. Also this could happen

1. Heatmor is prized
2. Heatmor is milled
 
Heatmor isn't the only problem. Everyone seems to forget that.

Dark.dec has a near auto-win. Zekeels has a good matchup. CMT has Tornadus EX and Heatmor. Fighting.dec has Landorus, Groudon EX, and Heatmor.

And when a teched in Heatmor starts killing things T1-T2 for one Energy, it's going to be very hard to stall your opponent out.
 
I'm not sure if you could call Durant dead. You see, once Heatmor comes out, Durant isn't going to be played anymore. Then, Heatmor won't be played anymore. Since Heatmor wouldn't be played anymore, Durant would start to be played more. I think it's going to be a continuous cycle like that.
