Is Gengar Lv.X good or bad?

Good info in here

Idk about gengar X, seems like a waste of space to me

Gengar can always use the HP Boost. Good card in any Gengar deck.

Actually, it can a lot. Leveling down that Flygon late game can be a winning move, and if you are playing a deck that needs a bench X, you can drool with joy. Shaymin? Gone. Heatran? Gone. Palkia/G? Gone. Dialga G? Gone. So yeah. And then its a pain in the butt to try to get it back.

I might sound very stupid, but what is a big threat with Dialga G Lv. X and Palkia G Lv. X, i dont want to be a big trobule but could someone pm me some info why they are a big threat or a link that says something about it.

It's okay. Nothing to write home about really. It's just...not the same as normal Gengar. Only specific Gengar decks should play it.

Gengar X should NOT be played in a straight gengar deck. You need keep your SF gengars up. I'd say go 3 SF Gengar 1 Curse Gengar. Curse often makes the Unown G'd Claydols fail:)

For GeChamp, though, only drop in a Gengar X if you are scared of flygon or something like that. It helps a few machups... but none all that much. Level Down doesn't hurt all that much...

I want to clear the air here once again.

Speedgar should absolutely not, under any circumstance, have Gengar Lv.X. Not only because it slows it down and reduces the chances of you getting a Gengar out soon (plus being dead draw if you DON'T have a Gengar out, thus making it inconsistent), but it really won't help much in the deck. Flygon will obviously always be a hard matchup for Speedgar because you can't do the damage against it to really get it down (the best you can do is snipe an Uxie before it gets G'd, although then Upper is in effect. Try for Fainting Spell if you can get lucky). So yeah, no Gengar Lv.X in Speedgar.

For GeChamp and Mother Gengar, it's almost needed at this point. If you're facing a Flygon or a Salamence or whatever deck, the Level Down will be really nice, because the disruption the two cause towards you is pretty difficult to deal with for a 2-stage-2 deck. I mean, it shouldn't be too hard to fit in a 4-2-3-1 Gengar in Mother Gengar and 3-2-3-1 Gengar in GeChamp, because leveling things down makes them easier to kill, and however you can make it easier for Gengar the better. Also, the healing Nidoqueen provides for Gengar Lv.X means that he's hard to take down, and once you do, you still have to worry about Fainting Spell. I mean, if your list is inconsistent anyway, then don't play Gengar Lv.X. Gengar needs all the speed it can get to try to snipe things before Unown G if possible.

So yeah, it's up to you if you want to play it, but as long as it doesn't slow you down, I'd suggest it.

Oh this just made me lol so hard. Putting away a Lv.X that you could've done 60 to (barring Unown G) and allowing them to get another two prizes. Now that's epic fail. It's really only good for Flygon and various Bench sitting techs. IMO, but that's reason enough to put it in a Gengar deck.

lol ;p

It won't matter either way. Unless you one shot their Salamence, they'll be scooping it up, or retreating, or finding a way to reuse it. If it goes back to the deck, either way, if they didn't kill you the first time they're not going to a second time. Hit them with Poltergeist (because while Salamence doesn't play a lot of trainers, I'd rather OHKO Salamence for only 4 trainers than do 60 to the Lv.X only to have them scoop it up or one shot me then take 2 prizes, instead of me taking a prize from the Salamence, then possibly another or two by the time they get another one out AND powered up (remember Gengar is faster than Salamence)).

I've been concerned that running Gengar Lv. X in something like Metal Gengar with Metagross SV would be inconsistent and unfortunately I was right. Still that doesn't mean I shouldn't test it out and see how it works...

But yes it helps more for spreading than it does for sniping in terms of it's attack Compound Pain, then again the Poke-Power might come in handy as well as the HP boost to save yourself a couple turns probably. I wouldn't be surprised that it sees less play in the next rotation when the amount of Lv. X's available will be very limited. I'm starting to get the feeling that Platinum: Arceus isn't as good of a set as I thought...

Decks like Metal Gengar and Mother Gengar gets some nice help with the new Spiritomb to help with Poltergiest.

Too bad you need five T/S/St. And like you said, they don't play a lot. Gengar Leveling Down Sally Lv.X instead of killing it is a bad move.

Me and dmaster have decided that since I completely fail at math, he's right.

But yeah, Gengar Lv.X is good, but it depends on what it's in. I was actually testing it today in Mother Gengar and it surprisingly helped me stall. Like, a lot. So, I could definitely recommend it if you're looking for more survivability.

So yeah. :S

Oh yeah, I already said Gengar Lv.X is awesome as heck. Just not against Salamence. The other decks I listed it's amazing against that though.

It doesn't work to well with Metal Gengar. I saw others at league playing Gengar Lv.X with Gallade E4 Lv.X.

I've been using it with Garchomp x as more of a spreader. Dragon Pulse gets damage counters on the bench and then Restore gives you a Gengar with your 3 energies on it ready to spread. Its been pretty effective, though its really more of an afterthought than a main strategy as I still play it like standard Gengar for most of the game.
