Japan's XY9 Set: 'Rage of the Broken Sky,' New 'Battle Strengthening Sets'

I'm sad that more people don't take this attitude. Judge a set by how much fun you have with it rather than how powerful it is.
Good on you sir, I agree.
Oh, you got me wrong. I do judge sets on how good they are in terms of power, and in terms of how many viable cards are in them.

However, I tend to personally play fun disruption decks, and I've already got a pretty mean one in mind for Lilligant. So I have interest in at least testing the deck. so this is just a little personal side thing.

In terms of power, this set is quite disappointing so far in my honest opinion...

Well, Whimper seems to be the only way I can think of (chime in with corrections) to guarantee (though situationally) an opponent's Pokemon to be asleep during his or her turn (since typically when you put them to sleep, the get to flip/roll before their turn starts to see if they wake up, but the sleep in this case starts ON their turn). She's sassy and I like it.

Toad has a potential new partner hurray. TPCi still cares about Toad y'all stop saying he's dead. I wonder if Lilli is replacing Hypnotoxic Laser or a remake is on its way?

There's got to be something coming out in the set that takes advantage of this. I wouldn't be so quick to write this off as terrible until all the cards are announced...

There is: Max Elixir.
Don't forget that Smeargle, and for the expanded players you can use a combo of both Ho-Oh EX with energy switch.

I definitely think that Smeargle will be good next to Ho'oh, but Max Elixir seems a little too luck-focused for it to be the lynchpin of the deck, IMO. That said, run enough energy and you're bound to hit something, that much is true.

...I did also forget about AT Togekiss...

Well, my prayers have been answered. Combining this with Ariados AOR and Dragalge FLF could produce some interesting results.

If they did a BREAK of this card... Wouldn't that be "Gilding the Liligant"?!

Haw Haw Haw!

This is the first time we’ve had a delayed Special Condition effect like that. Pretty cool! Will we see a Lilligant BREAK too?

This might fall into "that guy" territory of nitpicking, but we have had delayed attack effects, including delayed Special Conditions before. An example would be Darkrai (DP: Majestic Dawn 3/100). Such effects only seemed "worth it" if they comboed with something else. Taking a closer look at the Darkrai I just mentioned:

Darkrai Lv.48 HP80 [D]
Weakness: [F] +20
Resistance: [P] -20
Retreat: [CC]
Poké-Power: Darkness Shade
Once during your turn, when you put Darkrai from your hand onto your Bench, you may choose 1 of the Defending Pokémon. That Pokémon is now Asleep.
Attack#1: [D] Dark Slumber (10)
At the end of your opponent's next turn, the Defending Pokémon is now Asleep.
Attack #2: [DDC] Dark Resolve (40)
If the Defending Pokémon is Asleep, remove 4 damage counters from Darkrai.
Its "Dark Resolve" attack heals Darkrai if the Defending Pokémon is Asleep, so there is a reason to want the opponent's Active Asleep during your turn, when normally you want the opponent's Active Asleep during your opponent's turn so it can't attack or retreat. ;) However I don't know if we've had an attack place an effect that inflicted a Special Condition on the Defending Pokémon should the opponent attach an Energy card to said Pokémon.

So I don't seem like a total downer, could suggest that a Liligant BREAK would have an effect that wants the opponents Active Asleep during your turn. ;)

I got excited when I saw Ho-Oh EX. The old one is a great fighter in my deck.
But then I saw the new ability, and I got sad. No Rebirth? :(
I looked again just now, and the ability actually is pretty nice. I shouldn't have been so quick to judge.

I'm talking to myself, aren't I? :p

Just shows you should never judge a card by its sleeve.

Dude I'm pretty sure he was talking about the fact that it's delayed in the sense that it only activates after an energy attachment. THAT, as far as I know, is unique. (EDIT: nvm, it's not. Forgot about that Crobat PMJ posted... ah the days of [G] Poison type Pokémon, that made more sense than making them Psychic imo, despite what any Mr. Koga might lead you to believe. Anyways I'm getting off-topic...)

I immediately thought of that Darkrai as well (I never realized how extensive my card knowledge and background was until I started posting here haha). That kind of "one-two-punch" style of attack to me means this Lilligant is begging for a BREAK.

Lilligant is one of my faves too, so I've got my fingers crossed!
