Japan's XY9 Set: 'Rage of the Broken Sky,' New 'Battle Strengthening Sets'

Ok so the AOR ones have different reasons
1. The Gardevoir was NOT shiny! It was stated by Pokemon after all the confusion.
2. Even though the Hoenn trio was in the set numbers, they ARE secret rares. Look at the elite trainer box mini manual.
3. There is no shiny in Dark Explorers. As found in the set list on Pokemon.com

The Hoenn trio are indeed secret rares in AOR, as both the Elite Trainer Box manual AND Pokemon TCGO list them as such.

Let me keep my dream alive, I don't want to see another Set without FA supporters, sometimes I think they have no idea what they're doing ...

It's interesting how Gyarados EX's attacks has been changed from Wet Weather to Stormy Seas and Splash Bang to Splash Burn. Also note Greninja BREAK's Giant Water Shuriken to Hyper Water Transfer. I like Gyarados' changes, but Giant Water Shuriken sounds so much better than Hyper Water Transfer. What was the point in changing it?

From a distance, the font looks really similar to the HGSS pack text. As weird as it sounds, that's actually my favorite part about the look of these.
It does, doesn't it?

I think you might have read/seen something wrong. As far as I'm aware Greninja BREAK has yet to have been revealed. I think you're referring to Golduck BREAK which have the ability Hyper Transfer, but I'm pretty sure that's the same name as the Japanese name.

probably , well at least I hope so
Mawile and M-Mawile will most likely not be in the set. We already know that 11 EXs (including Megas) are going to be in the set, and with the eight in Rage of the Broken Sky (Gyarados + Mega, Manaphy, Espeon, Darkrai, Scizor + Mega and Ho-Oh), Palkia from the Golduck/Palkia deck and Emboar and Togekiss from their decks, it adds up. Mawile + M will probably be in a "Mega Mawile Special Collection" similar to Aerodactyl's.

I'm kind of glad that Greninja was a Theme deck Promo, now it will be easier to build the Break deck, plus it has glass holo on it, so OCD players who use shinies can have this for the deck.

This may be the first theme deck that I pick up. Does this mean there will be 2 exclusive cards (glass holo and non holo. If so that means 4 greninja in this set.

Well I'm glad they are Greninja and Luxray like I hoped, but Water/Grass and Electric/Psychic are certainly not Metal/Dark/Fairy energies *hmph*

Oh I do, and I should explain that I have plenty of every energy, I just like collecting more for color variety in collages and such.
What kind of collages? And if you have plenty, you should still have enough from years of collecting(I'm just assuming you've been collecting for years).

I feel like they're getting back onto the right track with starter decks recently. Now if only they could give us more consistent starter decks that'd be nice.

Still, glad to see Greninja is a deck.

Called it! Sort of...

What part of your prediction did you get wrong?

Well these combinations are the oldest combinations that don't include darkness, metal, or fairy that hasn't been done in the longest time.

Water Grass hasn't been done since HS Triumphant, and Lightning Psychic hasn't been done since Platinum Arceus.

For the May set theme decks, I'd like to see one of the following combinations:

Fire/Fighting and Darkness/Metal
Fire/Fighting and Darkness/Fairy
Fire/Fighting and Metal/Fairy
Fire/Metal and Darkness/Fairy
Fire/Metal and Fighting/Fairy
Fighting/Metal and Darkness/Fairy
Fighting/Metal and Fire/Fairy

Here are energy combinations that hasn't been a theme deck yet.

Fire/Metal
Psychic/Metal
Fire/Fairy
Water/Fairy
Lightning/Fairy
Fighting/Fairy
Darkness/Fairy
Metal/Fairy

I am going to list the number of sets ago these energy combinations has been in a theme deck, with Breakpoint being 0 sets ago. The ones in bold are combinations that only happened in only one theme deck without counting the special energies, such as the theme decks with darkness or metal in them from the third generation.

Grass/Fire 5 sets ago
Grass/Water 0 sets ago
Grass/Lightning 3 sets ago
Grass/Psychic 10 sets ago
Grass/Fighting 2 sets ago
Grass/Darkness 35 sets ago
Grass/Metal 30 sets ago
Grass/Fairy 6 sets ago
Fire/Water 3 sets ago
Fire/Lightning 1 set ago
Fire/Psychic 18 sets ago
Fire/Fighting 19 sets ago
Fire/Darkness 9 sets ago
Water/Lightning 5 sets ago
Water/Psychic 7 sets ago
Water/Fighting 14 sets ago
Water/Darkness 15 sets ago
Water/Metal 2 sets ago
Lightning/Psychic 0 sets ago
Lightning/Fighting 4 sets ago
Lightning/Darkness 16 sets ago
Lightning/Metal 17 sets ago
Psychic/Fighting 21 sets ago
Psychic/Darkness 1 set ago
Psychic/Fairy 8 sets ago
Fighting/Darkness 6 sets ago
Fighting/Metal 32 sets ago
Darkness/Metal 22 sets ago

I remember the theme deck low in terms of having a wide array of theme deck energy combinations. For the entirety of the 4th generation, Diamond and Pearl to Call of Legends, and Black and White as well, which is a 17 set span, there is always at least one theme deck in each set that had Grass energy in it.

Then we also have the theme decks in the plasma series as well as boundaries crossed. The theme decks had any combination of Fire/Water, Water/Lightning, or Grass/Psychic

I want to see every energy combination done in theme decks, but at the same time, I don't want one energy type to be in at least one of the theme decks in every set, so I wouldn't mind if they don't do fairy energy if they have done it in a previous set. Right now, the May set is probably a good time to include fairy energy in a theme deck, and have it paired with something that hasn't been paired with before.

Of course. Silly me.

Huh, they have the same typing as two of the Base Set decks (Overgrowth and Zap!). I wonder if Awakening of Psychich Kings will have fire/grass and water/psychic theme decks, since we're doing all sorts of call-backs to Base Set this year.
