Little help for two small boys??

I would highly recommend adding more supporters to both decks. You really need more than 7 or 9.

Do you have a suggestion? I didn't buy anything yet.

Edit: Two questions, probably stupid ones, but I'm really trying to learn:

Question 1:
I learned online that the pyramid idea wasn't good for a deck, so this should be:

2 Mega Blastoise EX
2 Blastoise EX
3 frokie
3 frogader

Why did you chose to make a pyramid system?
-------------------------------------------------
Question 2:
Why so many EX cards and not choose for a "basic -stage 1- stage 2" like in the Blastoise deck?
With chespin - Quilladin - chesnaught e.g.

3 mega Venesaur EX
3 Venesaur EX
3 Verizion EX
3 Genesect EX
-----------

Hopefully you don't mind me asking, I really want to learn, I'm not criticising!

A couple things I would like to point out for you. I am a newer player myself, so this may work for you too. I want this post to give you things to think about, not the way you have to think. It is all just a suggestion. I'm worried I may come across as harsh, but I don't intend to be mean.

1. These decks are your decks. You are open to variety and don't have to stick strictly to these lists provided for you. They are suggestions and skeletons. If you can't get that 3rd $30 Genesect or Virizion card, it is ok to run 1 or 2 for a little. If a card is showing little use for the kids in their battles, take it out and replace it. There is no perfect deck out there and opinions on the best cards can vary wildly. I started my first tournament with 1 copy of my main card. My second tournament haad me borrow a second copy while I had my own second coming in the mail. I traded for a third the morning of my third tournament this weekend at states as well as a couple other cards.

2. This is not an overnight thing. You don't have to go out and spend hundreds of dollars to make these decks for tomorrow. Take the kids to leagues and let them have fun. Watch their decks evolve over time. These leagues are basically about gathering pokemaniacs around for fun. It is called the pokemon "TRADING" card game for a reason. Perhaps the kids can trade their excess valuable cards for things they need in their decks. This will be more fun for the kids and cheaper for you. I think I have actually gotten as much fun looking for trades as I have with battling. It was at a league that I met someone who collects the pokemon and doesn't care about the trainers. He gave me $20-$30 worth of trainers cards that day. Many went into my deck and others were traded for other useful cards. It took me a month to get a pretty viable deck and I did reasonably well at the state tournament. In that month, I was very active in trades for what I needed and had some very lucky gifts.

3. Let the kids do it. That's a huge part of the fun. Take some time to let the kids get an idea of what their deck should look like and have them build it. I'm not saying that you need to stay out of it, but I do think you need to teach them how to play and build their decks rather thando it fir them. They will make some mistakes and that's fine. Making mistakes is the best way to learn. Yeah it does suck to make them sometimes, but it happens. Of course, dont let them do something like trade a $30 card for a $2 card, but if they trade a $5 card for a $3 card that fits in their deck, praise them for being proactive in building their decks but use it as a lesson in value of cards.

4. Something I need to learn myself sometimes. This is a game. It's all about fun. In 30 years, will you want your kids to remember that you spent $500 dollars so they could build a couple pokemon cards decks, or the lessons learned in competition, socialization, and value.

Again, I just want you to not take everything as the end all be all with these cards. It is all meant to be for fun, so make this for fun. Hope I helped with some things without any harm. I just get the vibe that you want to rush things. I haven't personally met you so I can't say you are doing them wrong either, just going from what I've read in this thread.

The decks that I posted for the kids are juts what I would put into it based on my playing style. Some of the cards are expensive. Another way for the kids to learn and build decks is by playing online. I recently got back into the game and it has helped me learn the new cards and how they play with other cards in the game.

I completely get what your saying and I can't agree more, avalanche3387 !
And even more with my kids than you can imagine!
Our two boys are autistic gifted kids who can't go to school, so they go not only because they love Pokemon but also to socialise.
Off course they go to sports e.g. too, but they almost never belong to the group.
The problem at the moment is, they often get teased for being different.
At the moment they're very happy to get accepted in the Pokemon group, but lately their sad that the kids tease them for always losing.
You can imagine how happy they were getting those mega ex cards!
That's why they wanted to build decks with them and that's why I asked for a little help how to do that. ;-)
Not to get to go to the world championship and become first and second place, but just to also win once and a while.
If that can be done with the (trainer) cards we have.... even better!
If I have to spend some money to do that, I will.
(But buying 7 EX cards wasn't part of the plan. ;-) )
Just so the other kids accept them as equal and not "the stupid different kids that always lose"
But please not the kids with the expensive cards who always win either. :D
Just a little help for them to make it a little easier to get friends.

Sorry to hear that your two children got teased that they lost! Was this at a Pokemon League, or was this at some other venue, like a Home School tutor place? I used to go to the latter, and noticed a great deal of Pokemon players present.

If it were the latter, I would highly recommend that you move them to a league for their games -- There are a lot of people there and usually people that are supportive and helpful, especially to autistic kids, with deck help and just being part of the group. Several of our members suffered with social disorders until joining our league. It seemed merely being around us really brought them out of their shells and made them part of the group. If you are already part of a league and there is teasing, I would make sure that it was in good humor, like sarcasm (I use it a lot, i.e. "my gosh, why am I so bad at this game." where it is clearly just my deck which is giving me bad draws) or whatnot. If it was bullying, I would go immediately to the lead organizer. They are under obligation that bullies not ruin the fun for everyone else, and they will help you. If they won't, change venues. There are plenty of leagues to go around! :D

I'm glad to hear they're enjoying themselves! And I know what it's like to lose a lot. Until I got an awesome rogue deck (I have never been one to go along with the flow of the pack) I didn't fare well at tournaments. Hopefully these will bring good fortune for them at their tournaments or league play! And I highly recommend that you create decklist threads in the Deck List Help forum for each of them so we can help you tweak their decks further into perfection.

There's nothing wrong with winning all the time, too! The best friends to keep around are almost always humble, so perhaps it is up to them to be humble with an unbeatable deck instead of waiting upon others to do so! :)

They got teased at their Pokemon League and we try to tell them it's just teasing. ;-)
Unfortunately our oldest he's been bullied so much, he can't tell the difference anymore.
(We always stay with them to help from a distance)

I'll put their decks in the topic you mentioned!
Thanks for all the help, we appriciate it a lot!
They have their first city championship on Sunday!
So we'll see how they do outside their own League.

(We're greatfull they found something they love and nice kids too)

Its all about them having fun. I didn't mean to go out and buy all the EXs in the earlier post I was just saying that is what I would do with the decks. Hopefully they do well at the city championship and have fun.

I see what you're saying, but at the same time I politely disagree. I'm not autistic and if I were to get teased for losing a stupid game that I'm trying to have fun with, it wouldn't be much fun at all. I have no clue and never will have a clue what it is like to have learning disabilities (knowing a few people with them is not the same), but I have and never will have respect for people who are mean to children (or adults) just because they are different or not good at something. I lost all my games when I first started, the only reason I kept going with it and became good at it was because my friends helped me through it and kept telling me "you'll get better in time, don't worry"
I'm a "normal" (putting that in quotes) teenage boy and it really made me feel good about myself that someone was there for me even if they were complete strangers. I guess it's not my business, but anyways I guess I don't have respect for people who bully disabled children due to the fact that they can't help it. Tell them that no matter what happens, just give it a few months and they will be surprised by how much more often they start winning games.

Teasing is not ok either in my book, it makes them feel bad about themselves and their abilities when they are just getting started and really just need people to help them learn.

Also, if you don't feel like buying cards you can always print off a few proxies.

Okay, if you want to make a deck for your oldest son ( the Venusaur playing one) with the cards you guys have right now, here's the list i would use with the resources you have at the moment:

2 Venusaur EX
2 mega Venusaur EX
2 Chesnaught
2 Quilladin
3 Chespin
2 Furfrou
3 Stoutland
3 Herdier
4 Lillipup

12 Grass
1 DCE

4 Great Ball
3 Evosoda
4 Flare Grunt
3 catcher
3 Tierno
3 Skyla
4 N

thats probably the best you can do with the stuff you have to work with as is. i wouldnt expect many wins, but on the upside, Megas will be more effective when the next set comes out in May, simply because all those Basic EX's are gonna get walled off hard by the new Pyroar card. So Blastoise and Venusaur will be a little more playable than most people think, actually
