RE: [PG-13] Love In Dangerous Times (Chapter 4 is up!)
I tried giving the story a more romantic feel this time to try to show that Adam is softening up (the sarcasm is DEFINITELY gonna stay though). Chapter Six is gonna be alot better and be, in comparison to the others in terms of important info, a super chapter! I really hope you enjoyed the read, comments appreciated as always!
Chapter Five: Sabotage
A half hour passed after the trio left Wally's. Satisfied with the info he got being crystal-clear as always, Adam secretly texted Wattson about Abilgail and that he was to protect her while the two boys were on their journey. Cody, being the light-hearted kid he was, made a little pit stop just so he can dress up like Link, swinging a plastic sword every once in a while. Adam had to admit to himself that the boy does look pretty similar to the Hyrule savior and that it was almost a little cute how he was acting. Abigail, of course, lagged behind with status updates.
"Are we there yet?" whined Abilgail, who had messed her hair up to look distressed.
"No, stop asking. You're like an very annoying kid, and that's saying something since 'Link' over there irritates me half the time..." said Adam, clearly irritated by the behavior constantly displayed by the even younger girl.
"I must admit..." Cody started, trying to have an early European accent to his voice. "This path does take a while."
"...it's literally a ten minute walk. You're just short and whiny Abigail and you had to stop to play dress-up Cody!"
"Dress up? This is who I am, who I was destined to be..."
"Dude..." Adam said, swiping Cody's hat and putting in his pocket. "Your name is Cody. You were born here. You are not Link and we surely share different gaming galaxies."
"I was just trying to have fun..."
"I know, bu-" started Adam, but was cut off.
"YOU TWO! Quit playing BFFs and WALK!" yelled Abigail.
"Cody, may I?"
"Sure, but just this once."
Adam stopped in his tracks and picked up Abigail.
"OK, let's move!" shouted Adam.
After a two minute run, the three arrived in town and at the gym's front door, Adam chucked Abigail to the ground.
"NEXT TIME IT'S A HAMMER!"
Wattson then opened the door and grabbed Abigail.
"Hoho, thanks for telling me everything in advance Adam!" said Wattson in his signature jolly, happy-go-lucky tone. "I'll keep her nice and safe... Also, you're lucky. Our Magnemite in New Mauville seemed to have found bombs of some kind. Don't worry, they are demagnetized."
DAMN IT! N... will surely punish me... Maybe if I kill Wattson? thought a truly distressed Abigail.
"Give those Magnemite something special for Cody and I. Thanks Wattson!"
The boys left, Wattson making sure to lock the door and put a sign on it saying "Closed for special reasons".
"Adam, you didn't bring me here just to drop her off, right?"
"Not quite. I need a bike so we can get to Slateport so we can get something to-"
"Get across the water? Why didn't you say so!"
Cody tossed the supply ball and grabbed the raft from the assortment.
"When you get the ball? I had it on me just so I DIDN'T have to see that standee again!"
"Oh... I, umm, stole it off your belt right after you fell asleep last night..." Cody muttered.
Adam punched Cody in the arm.
"I'm trying to be nice, just DON'T steal from me again... Especially when the object is on me." said a slightly irritated Adam. Cody meant well, but there is such thing as personal space y'know.
"I promise..."
Cody put the rest of the supplies and set the boat in the water. He then stretched out his hand.
"I can get in a boat myself you know..."
"I know, I just want to be gentlemanly Adam along with showing you someone cares..."
"I don't need anyone to, I have Mother Nature for that. But I will give you the gentlemanly thing, that's very kind and I will accept."
Cody takes Adam's hand, helping him into the boat and making sure sure the brunette got comfy. The taller, younger blonde then pushed the boat and took off. (I realized I never made that clear, so welcome!)
Meanwhile, in the gym, Abigail was quickly looking for a knife. Ironically enough, Wattson walked in with one.
"HOHO! Little girl thinking she gonna go stabby, huh? NOT TODAY, HOHO!"
"Grr... Wattson, listen up. We're on the same team, right?"
"Hoho... We were until you floundered out of town, so until I get some info..." Two Magnezone and two Manectric came out of the corners to surround her cue. "You are NOT leaving!" Wattson then pushes Abigail into an old, rusty electric chair.
Back on the boat, nighttime came and the stars were actually really clear for once. Since Cody forgot to grab oars too, the boat was only half-way across the water route.
"Adam... Is it going to be a cold night?"
"Saying as there's no Taillow in the sky, yes."
"Adam... Can I sleep with you? I know you're territorial but I freeze quickly."
Adam sighs, then finally nods. Cody then crawls over to Adam, snuggling close.
"Consider this a one-time thing kid. Truth be told, I need the company too... Just once. But right after that, straight back to my territorial behavior..."
The blonde nodded, falling asleep in the older boy's arms. Using the freetime, Adam looked up to the sky. There's plenty of stars in the darkness, but there's a particular group stood out most. It was a group of about 12 stars, 2 sets of 6. While most viewed it as a Girafarig guardian, Adam knew better. He personally called it the "Lover's Embrace" and oddly enough, the two looked just like that under the moonlit sky.
The next morning, the two boys woke up the same way they slept the night before, except more flat and, as a result, the back of Adam's hair is wet.
"I... Umm..." stuttered Cody, somehow not remembering the night before. It's not like they did anything, but Cody was freaking out like something did.
"Cody, relax! You just used me for warmth, nothing more. Now... Pack up, I need to dry my hair off before it starts attracting random Surskit."
Cody slightly chuckled as the brunette took the supply ball out and was looking rapidly for a hair drier. He couldn't help but blush for whatever reason. It's not like Adam was doing anything cute, but maybe it was just being around him in general and seeing this kinder side blossom first-hand.
After Adam found the hair drier (somehow portable) and dried off, the boys began their way to Fortree City. Unknown to the boys, Winona had sealed off the entrances and required everyone to take a special training course. But, for now, their only goal was making it through Route 119 and dodging any operative along the way.
"Are we there yet?" whined Abilgail, who had messed her hair up to look distressed.
