You are Politics.
The very premise of politics is that it affects the entire world at all time. Even when you don’t live in a country their politics can easily affect you, from basic exchange rates to other countries actually declaring war on your own, and everything inbetween.
Passive: Public Opinion
Your active abilities are comprised of a range of game-wide effects, and all of these effects will be stated in each day update on the blackboard. These game phases can be changed as often as you want.
Game Phase: Democracy
Democracy is what most countries in the world are right now. The idea dates back to the Ancient Greeks (because civilisation has literally barely advanced since their times) and at its core it’s meant to represent equality through a system of voting. As this is literally mafia, this game phase has no special effects on the game.
Game Phase: Despotism
A despot society is one where the leader holds absolute power. It’s kinda meant to be the opposite of democracy, but is also what the vast majority of empires have been throughout history until very recent times. When the game phase is in a despotist state, the player with the 2nd-most votes will be lynched instead of the player with the greatest plurality. However, strong opposition can threaten a despot, and as such, if majority is hit on a player before deadline, the player in question will be lynched regardless.
Game Phase: Dictatorship
One of the qualities of a democratic first world country which the human race is the least grateful for has to be free press and freedom of speech. Some might argue that that’s because they’re still not real, but the ability to have newspapers which don’t go through the personal advisors of the leader of the country first is a real blessing. On the other hand, one of the most famous qualities of a dictatorship is the mass censorship which occurs within the state. As such, while the game is in this game phase, the blackboard will be wiped -- except for your dictatorship ability, which will still be displayed.
Game Phase: Anarchy
An anarchic society is one without rule and as such one which will quickly crumble beneath its own demands. However, some players thrive within anarchy. While in this game state, you and another player will both have vote weights of +2. Furthermore, it wouldn’t be anarchy if you could choose who the second player to get an increased vote weight really is, so they will be chosen at random instead!
