Mario Kart Discussion Thread

I'm curious, did they reveal Funky Kong, Dry Bowser and co. When Mario Kart wii info was being revealed (Them being secretish unlockables)? Because if not we may have even more new characters :D

You're testing my memory JC. That was three years ago. :p

From what I remember, no secret content, beyond courses, were revealed with Mario Kart Wii. The only information we knew about characters were the starting twelve, and the community made assumptions based on the leaked information (like Daisy and Rosalina).

The big reason I'm placing my money on 16 is because the official site says 16. If there's more than 16, why wouldn't they post more ??? boxes.

Oh, and There is a reply from an E-Mail sent to Nintendo here. It says that each character is getting a track of their own, with some getting more. If there are 16 new courses, there can't be more than 16 characters, as each character is getting a track of their own.

Mushroom Cup courses and Shell cup courses are in these videos.

16 new Characters? 16 total? I'm confused. I see 16 MKW apparently minus the four in gray, plus the 2 revealed newcomers and 2 hidden newcomers.

MKW had 12 to start and 12 unlockables.

What do the new "coins" do?

Sorry, I'm really uninformed about mariokart7.
Coins increase your speed. After you collect 10 coins, your speed is maxed out.

16 total.

Yikes no Dry Bones and Waluigi. Waluigi especially is quite a shocker for me. Why would they cut him out?

Too bad Daisy is gonna drop some sexy all over this game and I will probably be KT only a couple times for nostalgia++.

Rosalina > Peach > Daisy :3

Does anyone know if snaking is possible in this game?

From what I heard from the people playing the demos versions, snaking isn't possible. The standstill mini-turbos from MKW are gone as well.

Lol I never liked snaking. :3 So would that mean that the only benefit of drifting is now better turning control?

Looking forward to playing with lakitu, and on dino dino jungle!? Thats my favourite course in any racing game ;D

They better not take away drifting! :headbang

I don't believe they will. Drifting around turns doesn't provide an advantage (if everyone does it), so if they just increase the turn rate when drifting, the problem will be solved.

One other interesting part I forgot to share is that car parts are unlocked by collecting coins.

In Super Circuit, you unlocked the SNES courses by collecting 100 coins. I imagine that it'll be a similar case with the car parts.

Oh, and characters have individual stats. This was the case in Mario Kart Wii as well.

Just letting everyone know, Wii Mushroom Gorge is returning, and this is a rumor but Wii Coconut Mall will also return.

I don't mind this idea but it would be nice if they made the stats visible. Unless I'm reeaally stupid, there was no way to figure out character stats in Mario Kart Wii.

They were visible. But the boosts were so minor (+3 to +8), and the stats had a total of 80, so it is hard to notice the boosts onscreen. Now stats are a total of 6, so it should be easy to notice the changes.

Wheels seem to have the largest affect on the stats. I think its kind of odd.

Hmmm I might as well join in.

I did notice the stats in MK Wii. On time attack I would use Wario because I could get that little bit of extra speed that I couldn't get with my usual character Baby Mario. I noticed if I was hit by something with a heavy character I would take off way earlier than then because of the difference in acceleration. I have to admit...bosses would be a great idea. I liked the online events that you would face bosses. I haven't read this whole thread so I don't know if that is confirmed or not but ya...

The coin idea is...uhhh...it could go good or bad. On the good side YAY COINS. On the bad side...it depends on how many coins you earn for each thing. If you have to get 4 golds to buy one level then ya...it wouldn't be very worth it

"yay I finally got all 1,000 to buy Mushroom Gorge. I wonder what the next thing is"

"Coconut Mall 2,000"

"FFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFF"

Ya...you see my point

Honestly...I don't like the idea of flying and driving underwater...this game has become Diddy Kong racing ;_; not cool...we don't need to rip off bad games :p

The stats are very noticeable, depending on the combination you use and who you are comfortable using. For example, I main Daisy in MKWii (out of love and not because she's the best), and when I switch to Birdo or Luigi or troll with Bowser Jr., I can definitely notice a drop in speed.

The only thing about this game I don't like is the fact that it's for the 3DS. :/

Well okay fine, I guess what I want then is character stats clearly visible and then kart stats clearly visible. I would rather it not be pick a character and then kart and then see the stats but rather look at a character's stats, choose based on what you want, and then move on to karts where you would do the same thing.
