Thanks for the welcome. I'm excited to see this group kick up and do some really nice projects. Anyone who is willing to help a brotha' out on getting started with Gimp and everything would be greatly appreciated.

@Elite Stride: It's been a while since I've used GIMP. I don't have GIMP anymore, but I'm sure a basic Photoshop sig tutorial would help you learn the basics.

Ironically enough, I'm going to be making a signature for a friend today, so that will be the basis for my tutorial. I should have it posted here later tonight.

@lilsparks: First and foremost we should get a nice roster of members before starting any of the projects. Our members should also be experienced in making graphics. So in other words we should put the projects on standby until all of our members are tutored.

Everyone experienced here should make at least 1 tutorial, demonstrating/focusing on different aspects of graphics. Depth, sharpness, focal point, flow, text, proper use of C4Ds, color usage, and lightning (maybe tie that in with focal point/depth). If I'm forgetting something please correct me.

Personally I find I'm good at color and to a lesser extent text, but lack skill in the other areas. I'm sure you all could help me with that. =)

xD I posted this in the wrong place somehow.
SuperSleuth do you think that you can make renders of LEGEND cards? If so could you do a Ho-oh LEGEND? That would be cool. Also lilsparks thanks for the tutorials.

I don't have Photoshop, it's too expensive for me. Lol. Is there a free version online somewhere?

And I think making all those tutorial videos would be really helpful. I'm thinking maybe we could make a Midnight Designers Youtube page for these videos and more as we progress. Unless of course you plan on simply uploading it to yours. :O

hmmm...and he asks for one of the more difficult cards to render...
I'll give it a try. We'll see how it turns out.

If you can't afford photoshop I suggest you stick with GIMP. Its a great starter program that I used to use before I got photoshop.
I'll make a GIMP tutorial and post it here later tonight.
What you need to do is familiarize yourself with GIMP by exploring it. Start experimenting with the different tools and options that are there. Do that and practice a lot.

The tutorials most of us do here aren't video tutorials. Those would be easier for the most part, yes, but it's hard finding free screen recording software with good capture quality. The computer I'm using right now is very old though, so I doubt it could handle Photoshop and recording software at the same time :p.

You basically make an extremely vertically long image with steps progressing as you descend downward, showing what the sig should look like at each step. I personally have never made one, so this will be my first time. Nonetheless, it will be a good experience for me and others like yourself new to graphic design. You can learn a lot just by reading tutorials, if you choose not to actually follow along.

And as Super Sleuth said: practice, fool around. That's how I learned.
 
@Elite Stride: before I start making a tutorial, how familiar are you with GIMP? do you know about how things work or would you need much more basic tutorials first?
 
At this time I am going to ask that all group members download the IM Service Skype. For tutoring and communication purposes I believe that this is the easiest means to do so, and half of the members already have one.

Also until I feel that the beginner members are ready, the clan projects will be put on the back burner for now. Let's all work together so that we can start sooner rather than later.

I'm not sure what this is :/ Is it just Skype and does it cost anything?
BTW I'm looking at some GIMP tutorials and trying to make a kind of basic banner.
 
Guys I made a (n00bish) banner! Since Groudon is one of my favorite Pokemon, I made a pretty basic one of him. I made it as an attachment just because I don't know how to do it otherwise. How do I just show the image?

I used Groudon art from a card, but it's not very good quality and the letters kind of blend into the picture :/
